We did it using Adobe Indesign. Since I use this software for my everyday work it was not that hard ;)
Collecting, sorting and showcasing the data in the index was the harder part.

There was no selection process you simply had to be a member of Log into Facebook | Facebook and submit your own choice of best photo there was no selection from Stephen and Bela all submissions were accepted as long as supplied in suitable resolution.

Nor were the entries submitted via Facebook they were uploaded via a google drive form.

I believe there is likely to be a 2018 edition.

What is nice is that physical copies can also be bought via the order button at The PENTAXIANS Yearbook 2017

That whole touchscreen idea is the last thing I would want for the next or any PENTAX camera in the semi-near future...

Better autofocus
is defenitely first on the list.

Also a bigger buffer, faster framerate or even 4K vids would attract more people than a Touchscreen.
(or at least make less people leave the PENTAX system)

Hello all,

Each year, Sydney plays host to a large, high-profile photography festival called Head On. Lots of venues, competitions, media coverage, event guides, the lot.

This year, i have been lucky enough to have been accepted as an exhibitor. I have space in a gallery for four weeks, showing a selection of night sky images over Australian scenes. Mostly shot with my 645Z.

If any of you happen to be in Oz, please do come and take a peek! I'll try and be there when you're coming...

Wish me luck,
Ed

Any news, leaks or insider info?

I already have money waiting on shelf.... Ricoh, hurry up! Last year it was late!

Just grab K3 body with flash commander and top display, add fully articulating display from KS2, sensor & SRII from KS3 ehm KP and squeeze in honed AF from K1. Add latest image processor, boost memory for large fast buffer and we are good to go. Competition will be strong as hell.. D7300 is coming soon and D500 already are selling like hot cakes.

My wish-list also contains auto AF correction using LV. More fps than 8 would also be welcomed, but not critical. Dot matrix top display would also be better than LCD and user will be able to select what info to show even if display is smaller.

Sigma announcement about K-1 lens issue

Is this a Pentax problem? To me it is a no and yes answer. No it is not Pentax's problem in the "legal" sense but it is a Pentax problem since Sigma produces many lenses that fill the gap in the Pentax lens lineup. So Pentax suffers when new customers look to buy Pentax and a leading supplier of third party lenses, with offerings that plug many Pentax gaps, issues a warning about compatibility with the Pentax K1. In terms of sales I am guessing Pentax users who want a full frame camera will get the K1 with this issue unresolved. In terms of attracting new customers my guess is that this issue is more damaging to Pentax than to Sigma. I sense this may be an unfortunate and unintended consequence of an angular design by Pentax.

The only reason why Pentax should have thought about accommodating Sigma is because Sigma is, for better or worse, filling up the holes in the Pentax lineup. And has been for a while. These Sigma lenses are not coming out next month, but they were here before the K-1. And they are widely used. Sure, Ricoh could say they don't care, if they would have brought a complete lineup out, preferably before the actual camera hit the shelves. Since that was not possible, adding just 2-4mm clearance could have been thought about. Maybe it even was? I still wonder about the background behind this whole issue. It seems like such a small thing, not a drastic change to the camera. But eh, at least the warning is out and there is a solution.

All good points. In 2016, Japanese engineering shouldn't allow these problems to develop. :)

BTW, as Barry Pearson has found on the other forum, it's not just some Sigma lenses being crowded off the K-1 mount. His K-mount Samyang tilt-shift was also experiencing some issues tilting across it's full range on the K-1 too.

True, that's the kind of thing I was hinting at by 'pressure' and 'who knows what?', slight body or lens mount distortion is possible too, slight loosening of the mounted lens on other cameras or in the future, tiny bits of scraped plastic getting inside the lens or body, who knows what. But I'm sure some people are willing to take the risk as none of this is certain or for them is insignificant.

I think you may have hit upon why Pentax have been shrinking down the space above the lens mount over recent years - they stopped making lenses with manual apertures long ago.

Since all they produced were DA lenses with no manual aperture control, they felt confident that they could save a bit of space in that area of the lens-body interface without impacting usability or lens operation.

They didn't, however, study the market carefully enough, particularly the lenses customers were using, nor the K-mount lenses 3rd parties were producing - many of which were designed on the historical assumption of a certain amount of free space around the mount.

I'm sure a few Tamrons will be affected too. I have the 28-75 f/2.8, and on my K-3 / K-3II it's tricky to get at the aperture ring release button if, for some reason, you want to switch out of auto-aperture mode and select it manually. I can only guess it'll be trickier still on the K-1...

It's not that simple. Not all lenses - even Pentax-made lenses - are 65mm diameter tubes pointing straight out from the mount. Most grow wider than that as they leave the mount.

And over the years, Pentax has progressively reduced the flat, unobstructed space available over the top of the mount ring, from about 1cm in the case of the 'old' K-1, down to about 1mm in the case of today's K-1. Thereby causing problems for lenses that are fatter than 65mm as they leave the mount.

The ever-increasing Pentax pentaprism overhang above the mount further complicates the situation for some K-mount lenses that need 'room to move' when mounted on the camera.

Wow. This thread took a turn over the last 24 hrs; arm waving, screaming and at one point I think I even saw a semi-naked woman rolling down my screen!

A scratch is interference. Interference is contact pressure. Contact pressure imparts bending moment. Bending moment creates unforeseen stress. Stress is always accompanied by deflection.

Send it to Sigma, file the lens mount or dremel the DLSR. Personal choice, but the fundamental problem needs to be dealt with - discount and ignore at your own risk.

(In defence of distudio, I personally wouldn't dremel the body but that's just me. The cutaway image suggests the skin is cast, not pressed and the existing little groove is cold machined. His suggestion is not invalid, just dependant on operator competency and accepting some risk.)

Some 15 pages ago I grew tired of the "who's to blame" discussion. We are facing a situation that may or may not be a real issue. I agree with a all of you who say that you can live with a tiny scratch. If a camera doesn't get scratches, it's probably not used at all. What I'm worried about is if this contact issue will affect functionality. So more from those of you who has got the K-1 and listed lenses. Particularly you who have experienced functionality problems with your Sigmas.

Personally I'm all for third party manufacturers and open standards. It's a significant part of what drives development and Sigma fills holes in Pentax's product line (booth regarding spec and price).

But there was enough leeway in the K-200D, K-x, K-5, K-5II, K-3. K-3 II ...

The K-1 design team should have kept a few mm spare above the K-mount, even made a nice empty circle around the lens mount like they did in the K-3/K-5/K-x etc.

In the good old days, they left plenty of flat, vacant space above the K-1 mount ring. :)

The worry that I have is that - what is admittedly a relatively minor issue - could easily get blown out of proportion. For example, buyer goes into a shop.

Buyer: Oh, I am interested in the new K-1. What lenses are available for it?

Shop: Well, Pentax have three new lenses released, a handful of older lenses that are still in production and then a large number of lenses that are no longer made.

Buyer: OK, so not many of these 'designed for digital lenses' I hear so much about?

Shop: No, but you can mount Pentax's DA lenses on it.

Buyer: Hmmm, I see. So what about other makers, like Sigma?

Shop: Well Sigma has just issued an advisory saying that some of its newer lenses may damage the camera.

Buyer: OK, well thanks anyway. Think I'll shop around.

The point being that unsympathetic people can blow this out of proportion and anyone with existing Sigma lenses who don't frequent forums but may see the note from Sigma - either like above, or by reading it on Sigma's site - and may well be spooked.

There are also potential implications for other more exotic lens designs such as tilt and shift lenses.

The main issue is that you don't want a narrative developing which is: "there is a design flaw on the K-1". Which we know there isn't really, just an oversight regarding a number of lenses made by other manufacturers.

I now wonder if this means other Sigma lenses may never see K mount due to this issue? I was hoping to see the 24-105 f/4 and the longer macros (150 and 180mm) show up in K mount.. It's kind of too bad if not. I prefer Sigma lenses too..

I actually bought into Pentax because several of the lenses I wanted were offered by Sigma. I bought into Pentax expecting a future FF body and I wasn't interested in the DA lenses. The reason I am shooting with a K-1 today is because of 3rd party lens support. There are a lot of people who look at 3rd party options like Sigma, Tamron, or Zeiss when making a decision. Ricoh benefits from that.

I have no idea. I do know one of the major knocks against the K-1 I have heard from non-Pentax users is the lack of super high resolving, fast primes. Sigma seems to have that covered with the Art line. Pentax really offers nothing at 1.4. I do suspect we might eventually see Pentax branded versions of the newer Tamron primes, though they are not 1.4's like the Art line. As good as the FA Limited's are, they do show their age with regard to CA, aberrations and sharpness until stopped down a bit - and, of course, they are not 1.4's nor do they have internal, modern AF.

Sigma are the ones having more pull in this situation. Sigma doesn't make a lot of money with Pentax, hence they are not releasing most of their lenses for K-mount. But the Sigma 'Art' series is universally recognised as probably the best FF prime lens line in existence, and certainly the best bang for the buck. People buy them like sliced bread, and them being not available for Pentax is a drawback.

I am pretty sure Pentax needs Sigma more than Sigma needs Pentax.
