Help with 2X converter

Now it's very clear that my question was understood correctly and thank you very much, for the complete answer.

If I didn't have the 1.4X with both levers spring loaded, I would have probably not even raised the issue. I'll keep the item because so far it has worked.

Cheers to beautiful Vancouver

Help with 2X converter

I'm sorry I didn't get your reply.

My question is: Since the 2 levers are supposed to be spring loaded and in my converter only one is, but it still seems to work, what does the other lever do?
In details: the lever that keeps the diaphragm open when stopped down is spring loaded, the other ( defective) is not but I can't understand its function.

Since I can still return the item, I'm trying to determine if the problem would impare my ability to take photos or not. The first impression is not, but someone who knows the mechanic of this, might tell me otherwise.

Help with 2X converter

Hello,

I bought for a reasonable amount a 2X. Upon receiving it, I noticed that of the 2 spring loaded levers inside only 1 is spring loaded, the other is moving freely. I also have the 1.4x and both the levers are spring loaded.
I put the converter behind the 300mm and apparently it seems to work. (It keeps the diaphragm open until the shot is taken) Does anybody have experience with this, in order for me to make a decision?
I still have the possibility of returning the item.

Thank you in advance for any enlightments.

645D + Benro tripod and head

After purchasing a 645D and lenses, my piggybank is rather empty.

I have a Benro 8XCarbon fiber 268 tripod and a B-1 head.

For all general daylight photos it works fine, even with the 300 f4 A + 1.4X mounted on the 645D body.

When I try longish exposure 1/2 sec or longer especially with the longer lenses, I can't get sharp images.

In your valuable opinion, since right now I can only buy either new legs or a new head which way would you go?

Thanks to each one of you who will put its own 2 cents.

I got an inexpensive used 300 mm A which proves to be a terrific lens, sharp corner to corner from f 7.1 and up.
I bought 2 weeks ago a used 1.4x which looks good. The early results are mixed, in my case. While the center is reasonably sharp, from mid-frame and out it softens noticeably. I would have probably accepted it as part of the game, but since another fellow has published his jpgs showing to be sharp edge to edge I was hoping for better.
I will make some more tests and report if different.
As it is, it would be fine for animal shooting where you only need or want the center to be sharp.

I tried to increase image size of the 300 mm w/o multiplier, in LR 33%, to be close to the 1.4X size and the difference in sharpness in the center was minimally in favor for the 1.4x and worse mid frame out. All of this at 100% on the screen which we know does not mean much for printing.

Hi,

Thank you ,yes I know I can open directly into ACR but the question is how is the Pentax software?

LR and PS do a good job with my Canon too but I prefer to do the first converting step with DPP because I feel I can get more details from it.

Hi,

Has anyone had the chance to use the Pentax RAW converter that comes with the 645D and say anything good/bad about it?

Even better if compared with Canon DPP from the standpoint of converting to TIFF for further manipulation in LR or Photoshop.

Thank you

645D announced! FINALLY!

Finally! But I was not happy with the statement by Pentax USA that the camera will be available in very limited quantity and that the statementit is not a selling ploy.
Precedence will be given to pre-order customers, ok, but what does that mean for everybody else? Will there be long periods in between supplies?
Certainly the statement was accurate but left wondering those who are not willing to put up money months in advance or paying a premium.

I tend to agree with Andycogbill that the images look rather "digital", hopefully in part is due to the choice of "Hard" in both sharpness and contrast as you can see if you check the EXIF data of the Jpegs.

FA versus A 645 lenses

As the release date of the 654D is approaching and the availability on the used market of FA lenses let's just say is not abundant, I would like to know from members that have had experience with both FA and A version of a lens or zoom, if in fact there is a significant difference in the optical quality of one versus the other.

I'll be interested in any 645 lens, these would be my primary choices:
35 mm 45-85 mm 80-160 mm 200 mm.

I am primarily an outdoor/nature photographer.

Thank you
