Outstanding use of light!
Really like especially the top one of the castle in the woods at the end of the waterway.

Cool shots - particularly the first one (to my eye). It has a eerie, otherworldly look that works very well.

Landscape Men Ruz Lighthouse at Sunrise, Brittany, France

All the northern coast of France is dotted with lighthouses. One of the most spectacular, for me, is the Phare de Mean Ruz (or Men Ruz). Its position, its setting and its construction are all extremely inspiring and photogenic, especially with rough seas and an explosive sky such as here. 1.4 seconds with my Hasselblad X1D II, Hasselblad XCD 30mm and Formatt Hitech Filters Firecrest Ultra Grad ND and ND filters.

Thank you for viewing, best regards

i did just put a little roll of thicker black paper in place instead of the original baffle. Works great since 2 years now. No problem with reflections at all.

I had both versions of the baffle printed locally at a 3D print shop - ran $40 for both of them. For me the screws are a bit small to handle (I'll be 70 this year), so I took the lens over to a local camera shop that does repairs. Just received a call from them that they can't do the swap, because the new baffles are larger than the original. I had the baffles printed using the 3D files provided (and at a printer that I had used before while I was still employed prior to my retirement - for some engineering prototype work products for a customer demo). Do I think that there is something wrong with them - NO, they just don't want to do the swap - for whatever reason. I see that they no longer have any Pentax products on their shelves (as if that K5IIs was going to sell any time soon for $800 new in box) - soooooo.....

I guess I need to find someone on the Forum who has done it before and send the lens out.

I would be more than happy to do it for you, but it would probably be expensive to ship the lens back and forth. Maybe you have someone in your family able to help?

If the baffle is indeed too tight, simply sanding the outside might work.

Today I took the baffle with me to work and drew up a few designs and 3D printed two baffles. I tried both and they fit into the lens quite well. I will have to see how well they work after I get them painted. We ran out of black material which we rarely use. This is a holiday weekend coming up here in the US so I should be able to get some testing done.

I apologize for the long delay here. My health has not been improving very much so everything has been a struggle. My doctors have me on a new treatment plan and hopefully this will help. The last few days have shown some improvement. I have uploaded all my design files to my Google Drive. You can find the link here ---> Update your browser to use Google Drive - Google Drive Help
If you have any questions about the files please feel free to ask. The files were designed in Solidworks 2014 since that is what I have at work. I also saved the files in the STL format since most 3D printed software uses the STL format. If you do not have Solidworks I also saved the files in the universal STEP format that should be able to open in any CAD software. If there is a file extension you need or want that I do not have please let me know. Solidworks can save in many different file formats. For the version with the baffle cutout I am working an instruction. Unfortunately I put the lens back together before I did this so I will have to take it back apart to make it. So far the baffle has been working great and I have no issues with the minor use I have given it. Sorry for the long delay here again.

After having tested both (and written the article / test for Pentaxforums), I prefer the baffle without the cutout, since vignetting is much less obvious and there is only a subtle difference in sharpness.

I have been selling (at cost) baffles printed by a colleague some time ago, but cannot do that anymore. That being said, there are many 3D printing services everywhere nowadays. In my hometown the public libraries even offer the service for free (you pay the material).

Hi Gareth,
I have used it in all lighting conditions and what nots, and nope, none whatsoever. I personally found the vignette to extreme for my tastes with the baffle on the K1 - even in post process the resulting crop after profile and vignette reduction was huge, so I took the decision to remove the baffle, now the vignette, although still present to a degree its much more correctable in post so it made the modification worth it. -- reverting is simple too.

So the bulb was defective? What annoyance! It's good that you ordered a new one and everything is working now.

You should like the NiSi filters a lot. That's what I've settled on, the original three plus two graduated.

You could still fill a softbox with the fresnel head, but you'd need to put a (translucent) cup or similar on the fresnel head to spread light inside the softbox, avoiding a hot stop. The fresnel is just 35mm wide (fixed), not too usable 'nude', in my opinion, but it's better than nothing.
