Haven't tried to change aperture data myself, but exiftool should be able to do it.

Could someone please explain how much manual focusing is improved by these focusing screens as compared to what you already get by focus confirmation light/beep I have on my K-x? (I am thinking about buying one, but my eyesight is so-so, so I am wondering whether it is worth it.)

Considering shake-reduction which you are particularly interested in, there is this quite nice video on vimeo (although you may have noticed it already): |

I'm puzzled. Are you saying that, say, two ISO 200 shots with and without this option enabled will have different dynamic range? Or that ISO 100 is not recommended? (I am not interested in ISO 12800, and mostly don't use Auto-ISO).

I just compiled geeqie 1.0 from source on my Debian Lenny, and it was dead easy (Apart from dependecies mentioned on sourceforge page (I skipped champlain library), I only needed to install intltool package) . It seems to be working flawlessly, as far as I can see after 5 minutes of playing around. So, there is no reason for you not to switch to Debian, I would say.

Thanks for info. Looks really promissing, but version (1.0alpha1) available for Debian Lenny Linux crashes quite a lot at the moment, for example when trying to open raw files (I have ufraw). Also, I couldn't get histograms to display for some reason.

I actually use kphotolabum and like it a lot. I did some research and compared various managers a year ago or so and it looked to me like kphotoalbum is the best tool for organizing pictures because its tagging system is very fast and well thought out (there are some nice video-tutorials available). It gets low score in mentioned review partly because you almost cannot manipulate images with it. But you should do that in Gimp or some such tool anyway. Actually, one of the great features of kphotoalbum is that by default it doesn't touch your files in any way. Unix Way(TM) was always to use several specialized tools instead of one do-it-all bloated software. So, my present toolbox consists of - mv (for importing files from camera into some directory)
- exiftool (for renaming files and organizing them into final directories; Pentax K-x default naming scheme is very inconvenient for me)
- gqview (for initial inspection of images and deleting non-keepers)
- gimp (for postprocessing; often called from gqview)
- kphotoalbum (for tagging images, and searching for them, and looking at them)

Let me just say that in Germany I recently bought a double kit K-x with 50-200, where 50-200 was DA (not DA-L). However, this was not a single-box kit, but 50-200 was in separate box. I got a standard double-kit price though. I don't know if this was some special offer by this particular seller.

Yes, I did that, but wanted to be sure. In any case, such feature (possiblity of ignoring any forum) would be great to have. I am new to both DSLR photography and this forum and I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of posts here. Great forum, though.

It seems that only off-topic forums can be ignored, right?

Hm, since you are transcoding from mjpg to H.264, I guess there has to be some loss in quality, right? Is this negligible for all practical purposes? (BTW, thanks for the script.)
