(What) Was I Thinking!??!
I picked up a crippled K-1 for an ok price. SR doesn't work, the interface is weird, and my lenses need an adapter. Spelling is off too, says sony A7R on the front.
On the good side it's kinda small, many features still work, and of course it has the nice 36Mpx sensor.
Might be a grey knockoff? We'll give it a try because that's what some of us do for a hobby
p.s. The listing said "Make Offer" -- I guess some people take that as a suggestion, it sounded like a command to me!

Just visit the canon-M and μ43 chat rooms, you'll cheer up in no time ;)
Note that I'm also a dual user with μ43. The Pentax interface suits me really well, for shooting and especially for playback (e.g. quick crops to 4:3, post-shot Raw saves).

Easier to state what I haven't used: no Canon ilc of any sort, nor Nikon dx/Z.
My preferred non-Pentax was a Samsung NX300 then Lumix, esp. GX1 & GX7. After that nothing from them stuck with me (and I've tried nearly all of them!) before going to the eM1 'classic'. Now I'm learning the eM5³ and its updates over the eM1¹.
All the good Pentax items like ibIS, wx seals
+ live exposure/WB
+ my preferred 4:3 aspect ratio.
+ my DA70, M85/2 and M135/3.5 were born for bodies the size of μ43 :)

From my viewpoint it sounded like Artists designed the K-01 and Engineers had free rein to create the K-1. I do wonder where we'd be if they had flipped that around in 2012..

Just wondering if this would put Pentax /ricoh in a better place, or crush their dSLR body sales.
I'm a fan of the Limited 70 on my µ43 gear, great images and cheaper than the Oly 75/1.8 on the used market. But would the sale or licensing of the DA Limiteds on FX/α/µ43 mounts and/or FA Limiteds on L/fE/X/R mounts crash the Pentax body sales? So many have fled for the virtually greener pastures for mirrorless yet pine for the smaller primes that others piddle out as plastic placeholders for their 'real' ($f/1.x$) primes.
(oo that was a fun sentence to write! :D)
Wondering aloud while enjoying my 140mm/e f/2.4 tele..

Caught a deal on a used Lumix G9, the closest I've come to owning a current model from any brand since my K-7 ten or more years ago. Pretty much K-01 size, oh the irony.. :p

I also thought robin redbreast, that'll teach me. Nice of it to justify your carrying a 100-500mm bazooka!
My family is addicted to the Merlin bird app, which can identify birds by song or appearance. I tested it on a loud call, it was a Common Raven 👍🏻

Our 2 years has timed out the 2020 Niro EV lease. We let the credit union take over, but it's over $100 more per month! That's what happens when interest rates climb out of the basement.
We've put 30k on it and are very satisfied. The only real issue is that some of the buttons are exactly where my wife might make incidental contact, so emergency flashers or the steering wheel heater might pop on any moment! We can charge at home for about $7 per full 'tank' (240 miles in winter, ~300mi summer), and in the summer one tank reaches the in-laws - though it will be thirsty!
We haven't taken a solid road trip with it yet, but October could find us traveling to south-central California. ---------- Post added 06-22-23 at 08:00 PM ----------
I had that model too, back in 8th grade /early '70s. Now I have another Schwinn (via Target closeout sale), plus we recently bought 7-speed folding bikes for spontaneous rolling.

Even a "broken" k-s2 or ks1 would work nicely with aperture-dial lenses, and the 20Mpx sensor does nice work. I grabbed a sick k-s2 for under $280, and I love the A50, M85 and M135 on the little thing. Some day I'll do the surgery.. I offered it in the marketplace but no takers.
That's above your budget, but the reputation has depressed the ks market so random bargains pop up..

A multipurpose DA70. Excellent on the k-s2 post solenoid surgery, a fast fun 140mm equivalent with μ43 - plus a 99mm f/1.7 with the pixco speed booster!

I've gotten some good use and great images from a sick-solenoid K-s2 and good ol' lenses with aperture rings. :)
I have a white solenoid too, but getting the surgery on my 'busy' schedule has been challenging..

I'm with you on the missing mid-level of old. Back in the day, many f/4 zooms were monsters (e.g. Minolta Beercan), while their 2nd gen (lite beer?) was 3.5-4.5, half the weight and closer focus. Those metal-jacket Minolta zooms were talented but undoubtedly massive - won't even go into specs on the Big Beercan! :)

Swapped away the 1"-sensor ZS100 for a 4:3 sensor gx85 body. Good for the little primes, and maybe an adapted K-prime like the 85/2.
I have a 1stop speed-up / .71x FL-drop adapter, so a 60mm f/1.4 comes 'free' with the 85mm! :D and more! Added a red anodized grip to distinguish the all-black camera.
Maybe I can get the black top dial anodized to match.. ?

I need to screw up my nerve on a similar project, a Vivitar 24/2.8. it used to focus decently but something's gone loose, long focus is around 10' on the barrel and edges are useless.
Does that sound like a loose element nearer the nose or toward the back? Someone here knows much more than I..

I also am a big GX fan. Had they not gone mad with the post-gx7 era we'd all be much more pleased with Panasonic. If a gx8.ii ever appeared it would sell happily ever after :) and if it were a rangefinder type in their S series I'd likely go broke for it :(
In the meantime I'll manage fine with the eM1 Classic, still the top μ43 body with a tip-not-flip screen. (OK the gh6 does too, but it's way above my pension rating.)

Hm. Since i already shot with it but computer is closed for the evening, i guess my choice is (again?) K-s2 and M85/2. I called this team a few months ago but never got off my virtual arse to post :√|

I brought this pot of portulaca to my mom each year in assisted living, to make up for the lack of a yard there. She left us last winter, but the pot still gets planted; here it sits on our deck.
Shot with k-s2 in Bright mode, A50/1.4 at f/4, iso200; resized, cropped, desaturated(!) and a pinch of sharpening.

I do miss my P28, which departed a few years back. I still look for another copy, but the Pentax A28 is decent.
I still have the XR 70-150 f/4, which compared decently to my old 55-300 but with cooler rendition (more blue not more  !). Guess I should retest against the RE/PLM version.

My Alpha era was brief but pleasant, including my fun times in August 2009. Family campout, Sierra backpack with Crater Lake visit, and dark sky star party. I was a big fan of the heavy metal 1st-gen maxxum lenses, but never had a Beercan :( used the f3.5-4.5 successor and 100-200 a lot. Album Archive - best-09 |

I was a big fan of the nx300; its pdaf 20Mpx sensor had fast AF, and a color pallette that feels similar to SATOBI.
Sony's k-x+r 12Mpx and (allegedly) K-Sx 20Mpx sensors had strangely brief lifespans. Both did nice work but were swept away by quick 16/24Mpx sensor introductions.
