I shot a few videos with my K-x and haven't noticed a video/audio sync problem. It might possibly be the codecs in your PC not being up-to-date. This would affect WMP. VLC doesn't use the codecs installed into Windows. VLC decodes multimedia using its own software libraries. Thus, for VLC, try updating to the latest version.
BTW, to subscribe to a thread without posting a message, simply click on the checkmark graphic on the bar at top of the message section. Look for [Checkmark] [Printer] [Envelope] ["Search this Thread"].

What you described is back focus.
To correct this, I think you have to remove the shim or replace with a thinner shim. I mean, you would want the focus screen to move a bit further back to match the distance to the sensor.
To quantitatively measure the amount of back/front focus, google "focus test chart" and follow the instructions.

The thing I like about the K-x is not specific to the K-x, but to Pentax. The K-x is my first DSLR. I chose the K-x because of its great reviews and the features on paper for my budget. In the three months of ownership, I found that the best thing about a modern Pentax camera is that I can buy certain top notch 30 year old lens for less than $100 on eBay.

I would compare it with driving a stickshift. After years of experience, it will probably become a lower brain stem function. I say "probably" because I've been doing it about a month and my manual focusing skills still suck. :o
But I must persevere.

I have the K-x too.
I found that video will drain the batteries much faster than still photography. I have the Eneloops (actually Duracell re-badged Eneloops). There is a thread somewhere in this forum about rechargeable batteries which I can't find right now. Find that thread and read it. Anyway, I'm using what is widely considered as the best batteries and a highly recommended charger (MAHA C9000). My batteries are properly conditioned and I can take lots of photos between charges. Video, on the other hand, will eat your batteries like a child eats candies the day after Halloween.
Get lithiums. They last the longest.

If the Pentax name is labelled on the lens, then it won't get stuck. For everything else, due diligence is required.
I heard about that pin caveat too. That why I limited my eBay searches to Pentax only lenses. I know it's overkill but I wanted to be safe.

To get the flash to pop up on its own, it has to be in auto-flash.
While in shooting mode, press the 'down' key. This brings up the flash options. For beginners, experiment with just two of the option -- and . (The rest are red-eye, slow sync, trailing slow sync, and remote.)
With set, the camera will never flash until you manually pop it up. If the flash is up, it always flashes. I think the confusion here is that, on a point & shoot, a usually means always flash while a means never flash. On the K-x, this third symbol does not exist.
With set, camera will flash when there is not enough light, just like a point & shoot.
Another thing, some of the scene modes will lock certain flash modes. Best to stick with one of the P/Sv/Tv/Av/M modes instead.

Try this on your 18mm-55mm zoom lens.
Set focal length to around 35mm. Look at a subject in the viewfinder. Compare that view with what you see with the naked eye. The subject size is almost the same, right? (On old 35mm film cameras, this focal length corresponds to about 50mm. On point & shoots, it's a much smaller number and it varies.)
Focal lengths below this (shorter FL) are considered to be wide angled. FL above this (longer FL) are considered to be telephoto.

I use the old zoom technology. This is how it works: to zoom out, the photographer takes a few steps backwards; to zoom in, the photographer takes a few steps forward. :D

Hey, same here. I was unimpressed with my initial shots the first few days. I do feel that I am getting slowly better. It's been a month for me with the K-x. I have not read any photography book, only the messages on this forum. LOL.
I got an A 50mm F1.7 to help with the low light conditions (better bokeh in portraiture is a nice plus). However, don't expect to get crystal clear images in every single shot. With a larger aperture, the DOF goes down, and manual focus becomes more challenging for someone like me who is still learning. I don't regret my purchase, though. Do save up and buy that fast prime. It's well worth it. Just be prepared for a handful of out-of-focus shots the first few days that you use it.

I used fresh alkaline batteries as I didn't feel like waiting an hour to top off the rechargeables. Still plenty of juice after the update so don't fret about plugging in AC power. Process takes about a minute.

You cannot shoot in RAW if they are turned on. Also, since the processor is doing extra work to do these corrections when converting to JPEGs, continuous drive will be slower. I initially turned it on but later turned it off as it slightly slowed down my 4.7 fps continuous drive.
For the OP, if you are using the 18-55mm kit lens, you might want to turn on barrel distortion correction when shooting wide angle.

My two cents. Someone told me many years ago that Japanese businesses tend to co-operate for mutual survival (symbiotic) rather than try to destroy each other in a dog-eat-dog world (survival of the fittest). I don't know how true that is as I'm not familiar with Japanese business culture. Perhaps someone who lives or have lived there can comment.
Having said that, I doubt that Hoya will intentionally kill the Pentax brand, especially when worldwide DSLR sales are climbing. Sony bought Minolta and started the Alpha line. Sony/Minolta is an even smaller market player than Hoya/Pentax.
BTW, yes, this is my first post, yay! I've been lurking here since I bought my first DSLR.
