I wouldn't worry too much about the shutter life that the camera is rated at. It is very rare that a camera will fail due to a blown shutter unless if you use it like a machine gun.
Check out this link on shutter life data base. Camera Shutter Life Database
Just tell him to enjoy the camera.

You are talking about twitter not facebook.
I still don't understand the point of twitter. The feed comes in so fast that it does not make sense.
Facebook on the other hand is useful. I use it to promote and show off my work and sometimes get some paid work for it. Also it is a great way to keep in touch with friends from long distance or old high school friends. Although I use FB and check it everyday, I am not one of those people(aka my wife) who is on it every minute they get a chance to check to see what there friends are doing.

Thanks for the tips. I will check out some of the areas that you said.
We live in Sacramento and will be taking 80 all the way up. I hope there will be some fresh snow when we get up there so my son can play in it.

Thanks to my wife I will be going to Reno, NV for a mini vacation. She got two nights for free on the Grand Sierra Hotel.
I live about 2 1/2 hours away from Reno, NV. The last time that I've been there was about 10 years ago when Reno, NV was still something worth going to.
I will be going with my wife and my 16 month old baby boy. Since this is my first time going there as a family, I have NO idea what to do. I know Reno is not the best place to take a little baby but we just couldn't pass up on the free stay.
So any suggestion on where to go? Remember this will be in the winter and we have a 4x4 SUV as well.
I want a place that is safe and easy to get to by walking.
Any nice scenic area? Going to leave my D700 at home this time and take my K100D with the kit lens.
Good cheap place to eat and is baby friendly?
Thanks in advance!

Willing to do a trade? I noticed that you are missing the Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4 from your collection.
I can confirm that the SB28 works with the Pentax dSLR in manual mode with no problem.

If you are talking about John Harrington, yes he is on the "in" of the business of photography. He does have a lot of credible stuff to claim and he does know what he is talking about. I have one of his book and it is a great read. But that is NOT the only way to do business. His advice is great but it is not written in stone because EVERY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT. There is always an exception to everything.
I've done a few "free" gig and end up getting other paid gig because of it. Even though he said that I will be known as the "guy who shoots for free". It all depends on how you present yourself and EVERY SITUATION is different. Example, I did a "free" wedding for my cousin as a present to him. During the ceremony, I did a slide show of the engagement session. A lot of guess loved my work and asked for my business card and got a few paying gig from it.

I am not asking you to do the assignment for me. I am just stuck thinking of a creative way to shoot this without being so straight forward.
I've tried to staged this shot a few times already and all of them came out to be straight foward, just a toaster leaning.

This is the first time that I've had to ask for advice on what or how to setup an idea. This is for class, part of the final portfolio and it is due in two weeks. I am really stuck on this one.
Here is the assignment. It is called verb, noun, and adjective. There was a list of verb, noun and adjective, we picked a random 3 digit number and whatever number falls into the verb, noun and adjective, we have to take a picture of it.
I just got a really hard one to make creative.
Here is what I got stuck with:
-ridge
-leaning
-toaster
I don't know how I can make this creative. We can shoot it in any way, photo shop as much as we want, but just as long as it has those 3 term in them.
Some examples from other students where, flaming hand flying. He shot an image of his hand, photoshopped some fire and put wings on the hand with the background of the sky. Something like that.
I would like to do something creative like that as well. Of course I can just take a picture of the toaster leaning, but that would be boring.
Any ideas? Let your imagination go loose. I am really good in photoshop so no worry there.

Does the K-X do video playback or something? On page 70 of the mag where they did the test, it looks like they are watching Fantastic 4 rise of the silver surfer on the LCD screen. Or I wonder what built in camera processing filter is that?

Does it support Tapatalk like the current pentaxforums does?
I was surprised to see that Pentaxforums.com supports tapatalk on the iphone while there was hardly any other good photography forums on there.

I've never seen any wi-fi one before but there are many radio one out there.
The cheapest most reliable one is the ebay one model RF-602. You can get a set for about $30 shipped. For some reason when you use it on the pentax it only sync at 1/100 sec as reported by many Pentax user. I never used them myself personally and I don't know if that issue got fixed or not.
The unit that I am using is the CyberSync by Alien Bee. It sync at 1/180 sec all day without any problem. They are a little bit more expensive, about $90 for the transmitter and about $70 for the receiver. They are a little bit more hassle because you need to buy an hotshoe adapter and use pc sync wires as well.

If the lens says DX on it you can not use it on the D700 at 12mp. You can still mount the lens and use it but it will change the camera to the "crop" mode where it shoots at about 5MP or so instead of 12mp.

The D700 has really great low light ability and an amazing AF system. Another thing that no one said anything is the DOF of a the D700 or any FF camera.
Here are two recent shots taken with my D700 at f/1.4. FF+ f/1.4 is truly amazing. |

It depends on how dark it is and how far it is. I don't have the Metz flash but I had the Sigma. If there is a lot of light, it may not be enough to trigger it or if it is too far.
Personally I would buy a radio trigger. I would not waste your money on PW either since they don't work in P-ttl. Its a waste of money to spend that much and still have to use it in manual while there are other brands out there that will do the same thing for half the cost. Like Alien Bee's CyberSync or Radio Popper's JXR, or even the ebay stuff if you want to just play around.

The AF system on the D90 in low light is A LOT faster than the K20D. Heck even the 5 years old D70s locks on faster in low light compared to the K20D. That is the main reason why I switched to Nikon. At first I bought the Nikon D70s mainly for strobes(ability to sync the flash up to 1/2000 sec). I shot an event in very low light and had to use external flash to light the area. I tried to shoot with the K20D w/DA 50-135mm and it had a really hard time trying to lock on focus. So I switched to the D70 with a crappy Tamron 70-300mm lens and it was able to lock on focus with no problem and finished the gig with the Nikon.
I've heard the K-7 is able to focus a lot faster in low light but I have not tried to tested the K-7 before.
As far as AF goes, Nikon is just better.

I would not say the d90 is better at high iso compared to the k20d. It does have a little nit less noise but not as much detail as the k20d. It just depends on what you want.
At low iso I think they are equal. I did not see any difference between the two when I had both. I think the k20d would have a slight advantage because it has a higher res.
