I recomended rechargables cr-v3 from ebay, I use a pair of them for years on my k100d super without problems
Also I recomended never sell the k100d super , when calibrated with debug program ( many of them have backfocus) it is one of the best ever pentax camera. its old ccd sensor is very very good.

I add SR off, enter this settings and save as USER 1 , for quick access. Dont use very long long lens, 300 mm without tc is enough. Feel confortable handholding your lens. My favourite is my F*300. Look on internet for bIF , its is full of tips, the most comon are look for Big birds , pelícanos , blue herons.. , prefocus where you believe the bird is going and try to see through the cámara far as you can them follow or pan ende When you are sure the bird is in the center press af button to start tracking.
Weather is very important , the better the light the easiest bIF. Landing and takking offs are good oportunitties
Practice , practice and practice .

My vote is for the fantástic FA20 2.8 . On the k1 is superb
For telephoto landscapes FA* 80-200.

Duck hunting is easier with a shotgun, Nobody can put a bullet between the duck eyes. Auto 9 works for me also for DiF {Dragonfly in flight)

the best option would be select 9 with 27 extended area or more, but it is not available at the moment.

user 1 "catch the bird" TAV 1/1000 f7 auto iso. SR on AFS single point. Noise Reduction Custom 400-800 2 points. over 3 points. +/- to +0.3.
when I see a bird on tree branch I shot first with this settings . after I change to User 2 "bird with quality"
AV iso 400 f5.6 SR on +/- on front reel. probably the speed will be no too high and many of the pictures will be blurred but if you get a quiet bird the quality will be very good. After that I change to user 3 " BIF" Av ISO 640 or 800 f5.6 SR Off +/- on front reel for quick compensation . if blackground is clear then overexpose if dark underexpose. AFC centrsl point 27 expanded. NR custom as user 1
to use SR on on flight and AfC on static are the best way to ruined pictures.

In my opinion AFC hold off. if it is On you will hold the background 90% of times.

Temperatura. Some time ago I was unable to unscrew polarizer filter from my 28-70 . After I Put the lens outdoor in a very cool day for half hour and I was easy to do it.

Pentax af-c tracking sistem need a lot of time to learn and practice to get good pictures. Default settings from factory doesnot help us. But When settings are well done and you are good trainned I think is as good as other se sistems. I use k3 with bigma and F 300 .

I changed my workflow with Nomacs, it is a Free software to see raws Quickly. When I arrived home I copy and paste the sd files into the computer, than open them with nomacs and I see very very fast with 0 delay , I delete the bad pictures fast . This procesos only need the keyboard arrows for select and zooming image. Nomacs also allow to compare images on a better way than lightroom. Now I import to lightroom only the selected with nomacs images. I shoot widlife in A day I can arrive with 1k pictures and after the nomacs I import 150 or so to lightroom knowing previously wich are the best. It is a Huge time saving.

K100D súper is excellent , Its 6 MP CCD sensor has some mágic. Af is not fast , but for landscapes, portraits is a fantástic camera ,
