Computer Recommendations?

Agree with the other posters here about going for fastest CPU. You can max out your RAM memory yourself (from Crucial memory) with Imac....
also think about the Mac Mini & a good external screen, such as an Eizo or Nec Spectaview. That way you won't be plagued by the high glossy screen of the Imac. They are well fast enough & have huge memory & hard drive space for what you might require.

Ditto this Trevis....... its Canikon for me too, unfortunately. Always had Pentax (film) cameras, but their reluctance to enter the full frame professional arena has forced me to jump ship : not prepared to wait any longer.

Camera bodies come and go with a 1 - 3 year regularity. Camera lenses are for life. Makes no sense then to invest heavily into 'the best, newest' body, as one would then be tied into the endless upgrade system. The only thing that matters is the sensor, the quality of the viewfinder (OVF or EVF), and the ability of the camera body to utilize legacy lenses. Everything else is superfluous. Whether Pentax/Ricoh follow that philosophy I doubt very much, as they seem to design and build nowadays to a price-point, and not to a standard. And for, I should add, the Far Eastern market.

So 2012 is something of a crunch year for Pentax/Ricoh as far as the infamously rumored "full frame" camera is concerned. If they produce one with a FF chip and a big bright OVF, and retaining the K-mount, I'll buy it tomorrow. But somehow I doubt that this is going to happen... So even though I'm a Pentax man through and through, and have been since 1975, I simply can not wait any longer for the upgrade from my K-x, and think that this may be the time to change to Nikon (D700) and sell all my Takumars & other Pentax lenses and to replace them with Nikkors instead !

Issue with Adobe Bridge

Hi - I have had the same problem recently with CS4 / Bridge : images are not constrained within the monitor screen. Its not the shape of your monitor, but a Bridge glitch I think. I reset the workspace & all is well. In Bridge, go to Window - Workspace - Reset Standard Workspaces. I'm by no means a photoshop guru, but this works OK. Other people may have a better solution...

Has anyone used the dual split image from jinfinance?

I concur with the above statements. I bought my dual-diagonal screen from jifinance for my Pentax K-x a few months back & haven't taken it off since. I don't regard it as 'cluttered' - even when using AF.
Where it comes into its own is in low light situations with manual focusing, and where having a diagonal split is more useful. No problems with shims with the K-x, just use the existing shim in the camera. And a LOT cheaper than Katz Eye screens !

Strange Pentax Magnifier - help ID!

Dubesor : Everything the other posters said is true, but what they did not say is that whilst being rare, the Pentax Magnifier 'M' does come up on e-bay occasionally and is worth bidding for. And it not simply for critical close-focusing macro work. I bought one very recently very cheaply on e-bay for GBP £21 !
Unlike the latest plasticky version from Pentax (approx. £80 in the U.K.) which is not worth the money, the M version (like the earlier K version mentioned above) is all metal, & well machined, AND works a treat. I personally use it in low-light jazz club conditions with manual lenses on my K-x, and flip it up, or take it off when I don't require it. As an aid for manual focusing with the Pentax range of cameras with their half-frame chips, half-size mirror & pentamirror (on the K-x) it is invaluable.
I also had one of the K-versions cited above : there is a difference in size of approx. 2mm between the two. In the meantime whilst you wait for one to come up you would do well to buy one of the KPS U-13C magnifying eyepieces which give a useful 1.36 x magnification : well made, with good optics & not very expensive. Good luck with your search for Nirvana !

Battery grip for K-X?

Hi everybody. I'm a new boy, & I'd thought I would give people some of my thoughts re the K-x, and how I get over the size issue. I have large hands, but wanted the K-x over the other, larger, Pentax DSLRs because of its fantastic sensor ability in low light.
There's no doubt that if you have average-to-large hands the camera can be 'awkward' to hold, or use. This is primarily because the hand grip size precludes the little finger, which then will fall underneath.
Unlike a good p & s camera, which is light-weight and easy to hold, the K-x is quite heavy for its size with its 4 batteries. I have tried a number of adaptations (though not the above-mentioned battery-grip which seems to me rather a silly idea) to make life a bit easier from the point of view of handling, and now have permanently attached a bog-standard nylon hand grip strap. The kind of thing you can pick up online for very little. I think my one is made by Kood, but really anyone having difficulty handling - especially when using portrait format - should consider it. They are fully adjustable - I have mine very loose, so I can withdraw my hand at any moment, but it still gives me peace of mind about not dropping the camera + lens. And get one with a screwed thread on its underside - that way it can be used on a tripod without removing it. Anyways, just my 2-pennies worth....
