Given the sound levels I may be dealing with, this could be the only option unless I remote mic'd from further away. Plus I like the quirky "not another shotgun style" look to it. Thanks for the suggestions!

Hello,
I eventually found the serial number, it's 38600. I have one shipped from Japan with the hotshoe protector.
Btw, from what I saw, Nikon also sell the protectors, that are slightly smaller, for their cameras.

Just a follow up for those curious. B&H Photo provided me a refund for the bag, even though it still seemed to be tracked by FedEx. Amazingly, FedEx finally broke its delivery loop and it was eventually delivered on Sunday June 27. On Monday, B&H Photo sent me a pre-paid shipping label to return the bag, since I had already received the refund. I opted to call them and have them re-invoice me for the bag, since I wanted to keep it (plus the original shipping box was not in great shape).\
The situation was resolved to the satisfaction of all parties, I believe.

Thanks Chuck. Given the closing window on the special on the XP-15000 (ending tomorrow), I waited until today, hoping you might get your stock. Today, went ahead and acquired one from a dealer which had several in stock. Sorry this didn't work out in B&H's favor but I will be back to B&H for ink supplies (and other photo items) when the need arises. I appreciate you're getting back to me.

Update.
Henry reached out and took care of this. I was refunded the cost of the repair (after I had sent the paid invoice for the repair of course).
This is exemplary customer service, and they made me a very happy and satisfied customer!
Thanks so much Henry and B&H.

I understand. Just more motivation to hop the Amtrak Crescent up to NYC and visit, right?
Just gotta pay off the credit card first. :D

Hi Chuck,
many thanks for your reply.
We have a number of users interested,
so we appreciate your buyer working with Metabones.
The K mount version of the adapter
is likely to find more takers than the Nikon version.

The Pentax tubes do require an aperture ring, yes. You may be able to find some used third-party ones with A-type contacts, or use a de-glassed teleconverter, but Pentax never made any of their own.

Thanks Chuck! I have already pulled the trigger on a purchase and went the route of body only with grip and got the 28-105 separately...it ended up being $100 less than if I had went with the 20-105 kit and purchased grip separately. I didn't want to miss out on a couple of the other lens deals, so didn't want to wait. I really appreciate you getting back with me on this.
thanks again,
russell

Hi Chuck,
Thank you so much for taking this into account. I felt disappointed that I was not able to depend on the switch during shooting. I thought if I let you know, that way you could do exactly what you did (let manufacturing know). I really was truthful in what I said. Please let Matt know that I appreciate his giving attention to this matter also.
Kind Regards,
Casey

The 55-300mm PLM lens is KAF4 (= no aperture linkage, in lens AF), currently all other Pentax DA lenses are either KAF3 (aperture linkage + in lens AF) or KAF2 (aperture linkage + in-lens AF + screwdrive AF) or KAF (aperture linkage + screwdrive AF).
Details: The Evolution of the Pentax K-mount - Articles and Tips | PentaxForums.com
The K-70 is not known to be prone to the aperture failure issue, so this shouldn't be a concern. It is also compatible with both KAF4 and older mounts, so any lens will work!
I second Chuck's recommendation of the 16-85mm lens, but the way. It's a great, versatile choice.
