Perfect Photo Suite 8 system requirements

Hi there. I once wrote (sept 2013) to onOne support regarding my PPS7 software window blinking (particularly the working area) every time you move the mouse and they answered me with a list of requirements the software has to work properly. The list did not mention that a dedicated video card is required but it mentioned that you must have at least 256MB of "dedicated video memory" and there is the catch. When you're using an integrated memory card, even if you have more than 1GB available for video, the memory is shared.

Some time later I wrote back to onOne support requesting their recommendation for a platform upgrade and they simply told me that the software "did not work with some Intel graphic chips" and that I need to comply with the list posted under "Video Card Requirements and OpenGL" (Video Card Requirements and OpenGL – onOne Software). It needs to told that the note posted in red was not there when I reviewed the requirements prior to the purchase of the license, it was posted some time after my emails.

Hope this comment give you a hint of what to expect.

Saludos,
J.

Signature on prints for exhibition

I recently did some printing for an exhibition (my very first) but was until I have the images mounted and laminated that I realized that I have to sign them but don't know with what media. So, I wonder which material is best to sign photographs and what information, if any, may be added to document an image.

Regards.

Anyone had an SD card die?

I was unable to recover the photos but I found a way to recover the cards.

Sadly to say, after many attempts to read the info or to format the cards in different machines, I took the cards to a friend that has a Canon XSI to see if he can read them. We got the same problem so he offered to format them instead but told him that it won't work because I already tried. He gave it a try and to my surprise the cards were formatted.

I don't know where does the difference rely but the cards are stil operational.

Regards!

The "How Did You Do That?" Question

Ok. Here is how I think it was made:

You got the flash set to 2nd courtain sync. and a slow shutter speed. A soft fill-in light to make the model cast a shadow on the background, this one may be blinking. Now, when you shoot, the camera has to be in motion creating the background blur and when the main flash fires it will illuminate the model but its created shadow will not hit the same background.

I think in this possible disposition:

- background at 12 o'clock.
- camera at 6.
- blinking light at 7.
- main flash at 8.

but to avoid the strongest shadow of the flash the line of the background will not be pependicular to the axis camera-background.

Biblography needed

Hi everyone, I been reading about post processing images and they talk a lot about color space, monitor calibration and profiling, etc. and the fact that what you see (or modify) in the monitor may not be equal to what's printed. So, now I discovered that I need clarification on these themes mostly because of their relevance on printed pictures.

Do you know a good reference to read more about it?
Which would be a good book about picture post processing and printing?

Best regards.

Fog in the filter

Hi everyone, this past weekend I faced a problem that is really new to me since I been shooting in the same conditions and never happended before. I was shooting outdoors normally in a really hot and humid day and suddenly the front lens' filter started to condense by no aparent reason, I mean, there were no droplets only look cloudy. (Don't know the exact term to define it) As if you have exhaled in the glass.

Naturally some of the pictures came out blurry but my concer is about if is there any way to avoid that efect in the front lens/filter when shooting by a river or pond in a humid day? I tried to remove it with a cloth but couldn't. It took a little while and cleared by itself. My guess was temperture has something to do but I am not sure.

Have something similar happened to you?

Thanks to all!

Those are the result of 3 hrs. average hiking on saturdays and sundays. What I haven't found is how to maintain the EXIF data after editing an image. I tought the info was in the pictures but seems it doesn't.

Any suggestions?.

Regards,
Jesús.

Well, it took me some time to choose what to post after viewing so many good pictures in here, but sooner or later it will happen. Hope you like them and if you know any herpetologist that can identify these fellows I will appreciate.

Of course, comments are welcome.

I have not used an angle finder but I need one too. Anyway, Kenko anounced a new one to be released on August but I am still waiting for some information. It's the "KF-001" and according to "http://pentaxlife.com/kenko-angle-finder-kf-001" it fits all PENTAX digital SLRs. Again, I have not further information.

Thanks for the hint on the Olympus.

Good small travel bag?

I use the Lowepro Rezo 120 AW. It is small enough to perfectly fit the body with a lens attached, flash, SD cards, spare batteries and one or two filters. Now, you can attach an extra lens pouch on its side to carry the tele you want. This is a shoulder bag that can be converted to a waist bag with a belt. Don´t know what kind of photo you do but it´s perfect for a half day light trekking.

Regarding the film, there is also the Kodak option wich is "BW400CN". It gave me very good pictures not so-long-time ago, but you need to get a reliable lab anyway.

Thanks man, I will consider your offer. But my post was to gather infromation in order to discard problems with my camera. Anyway, surfing this site I found quite some posts refering to cards problems (not reading, can't format, etc) which are not too different from mine and any of them has a reason nor solution.

What if new cards are disposable in some way? As if they got a preset number of usable frames after which it becomes unusable. The thing here is that the card does not warn about frames left and that is the problem because it makes us lose some valuable pictures.

I remember that a statement regarding this was published some years ago. But no one thought it could be for real.

Are you familiar with SD card damage (logical, not physical) because over shooting on them?

I am using Kingston SD/512Mb and this is the second time I got a unusable card because let if fill (meaning that the camera reports "memory card is full").

I could salvage (copy/download) most of the files but after that time, the card becomes unusable. Neihter the card could be formatted nor the ureadable files erased.

I give up on file recovering (some good photos lost) but I am trying to recover the card. Or, are they disposable?

Best regards.

Well, by the moment you could forget about Sigma-Pentax compatibility. I wrote them to ask if I can use it on my "DS" and get a plain "No" without further comments. I received the answer on tuesday.

Good to know that could be used in manual mode though.

Thank you both.

As soon as I could I changed PICT mode to M and test it, finally everything was as I knew it. I never thought to try that.

firmware upgrade on istDS

Hi there,

This post is regarding the firmware update for a Pentax *istDS to version
2.02, I did it yesterday because mine was 1.00 and I have some questions about the features. I already sent a message to Pentax in the US asking the same thing and hope they give an answer but in the meanwhile I am going to keep searching.

So, here it is the situation:

The whole process ran without problems as described in the README file
but after turn it back on to use it I realized that a whole reconfiguration of
personal parameters was necesary (this point does not appear in the
procedure). Anyway, after reconfigure it, I clicked "Fn" button and saw
something different in the navigation menu.

At the "UP arrow" that selects shooting mode the rectangle is always colored green, as well as the letters "AWB" from the "LEFT arrow" which selects white balance.

The thing is that I can access the shooting mode submenu by pressing the
up arrow button but I CAN NOT access the "AWB" submenu. I pressed
left arrow and nothing happened. I try to get this functionality through another
option via "MENU" and there is none.

I wonder is this is correct, and in such case, how am I going to select
the white balance from now on?
