hurray i found the sound settings.
maybe the Menu isn't all that self-explanatory: read the manual!:o
so now that beep is of, thank goodness.
But still: hexagon says in focus - Shoot - focus is a bit in front of what i focussed on.
bummer.
Manual focus in Live View with peaking and Magnification works just perfect.
thank you guys, I'll keep testing.

Hi,
I just fooled around with my new k30, shooting with my m42 takumars.
The K-30 gives you a beep and highlights the AF field when it thinks you are in focus.
Theory.
always off, quite a bit. I can do way better with eyes only.
a.) normal? don't think so
b.) something to adjust (how)?
c.) something I should send the camera back for?
d.) How to turn off that Beep, if it's not working anyway
thank you in advance

Hi,
I just got my K-30 which is a serious upgrade from my istDL :o
Question: why is my k-30 displaying the Info-whatever-screen all the time?
annoying when shooting in the dark (ruining your vision on the way to your eye).
Battery draining also.
The istDL only displayed any info if told so (hit Fn button for example)
did I miss something?
thank you

is the feel.
I just upgraded from a istDL to a K30.
and one of my coworkers just got a K-5
I thought that these reviews should also compare the feel of the units. being used to a Canon 50D and a 600D
I would easly set both the k-5 and the ENTRY-level k-30 above the 50D and miles ahead of the 600 when it comes to feel:
Rocksolid, stable, you got something in your hands.
the 600 is in comparision a wimpy piece of Plastic and even the 50D feels a bit hollow.
the only camera that has been reported to some extend to be in the Bring-that-wall-down category is the Olympus e-5.
do you agree?

Hi there,
I am selling a lot of Pentax things on Ebay now, mostly non-working Bodies,
But attached to a broken MZ-5n was a battery-grip. looks unused to me.
Is that something I could sell on Ebay or is this too special?
Don't know if that`s a piece of junk or a wanted item...
Could you give me a hint?
thank you

Hi there,
how would you compare the DL to today cameras? are we talking canon g11-Quality? or better /worse.
I know it's no match for a K-5, but maybe a GH1?
thoughts welcome...

hmm, i thought esp. reducing the pixel count was a good idea. (for a camera that small)

Hi there, i just had some sort of vision about a very special Edition of the Pentax Q.
Maybe you sort of like it :)
The name Q brought me the connection to the character of „Q",
the gadget-mastermind of the good old James-Bond-Movies.
So we are talking style, speed, and deadly performance.
„My" Mister Q :
- has no plastic part whatsOever
- comes in a sniper-on-the-roof case. a small one, that is.
- has NO Picture-Style-Gimmick things. all pro.
- has a 3840x2160 px Sensor (8.2 MP), that's double HD pixel count, enabling:
- easy HD movies (60p 50p 30p 25p) without Moire etc through Pixel binning (GH2-like movies anyone?)
- higher Shooting rates
- far better lowlight (WHO NEEDS 12Mp for Youtube, the Web or watching pics at home on HD-TV?)
- has multishot-modes (tripod!):
- 3-5 Pics averaged to get rid of any noise
- 3-5 Exposures combined to 16bit HDR pics
- Sensor-IS abused to shift the Sensor half a pixel, then calculate a whopping 33MP still : )
- has a thunderbolt (yes, that also a Movie!) interface for connecting to a MAC or …a RAID (4:2:2 Video)
- has two mini-Balanced in for mics / stereo mic
- has a fully articulated Screen for these crazy shooting angles and self-shots
- comes with three all metal primes (inspired by firearm gauges and 007), all black!:
- 22/0.7 (.22 magnum)
- 38/0.7 (.38 special)
- 76/0.7 (7.64mm Nato)
- comes with a SMART K-Adapter for working DA* Lenses etc.
- can be completely remote-controlled with an iPhone/Pad
- comes for free for me, because I had the Idea : )
well, just a thought..

Hi there,
my Dad just brought in a Old MZ-5n, looking ... unused, incl. battery grip and winder : ).
unfortunatly the Mirror refuses to com down no matter what you try.
Anybody has a hint what I could do?
Professional repair is always an option, but pricey.
thank you

Hi,
I´m really on the edge of getting one, but I need some information on the Video quality in terms of Moire.
Somebody done a Test with that yet? can it compete with a GH2 or...
Well, any information on that is welcome : )
thank you guys

Can you comment more on the Moire Issue?
I think I have seen some ugly things happening when the Fridge gets opened.
I'm mostly doing stuff for Guitars/Music, so all these frets and Strings will look awful when this happens.
thank you

Hi there, I already posted this as Site suggestion, but was encouraged to do an article:
As a beginner I'd really like to have a collection
of Issues/Problems/etc you can have with a specific type of gear.
with Pictures that clearly point out the problem along with a likely solution.
for example: Now THAT's Chromatic aberration (pic) and that's the same without (pic)
CA is easy, ok....
But what's „Koma“? Is that Flare or something else? Is that the camera or the lens?
would be the usage of Lenshood help here or is the Lens
Good Idea?
If so, i'd post some of my wierder results:D

Hi RioRico,
actually my widest is my 16-45 Zoom.
I use it quite often because It can focus on something almost touching the lens...:D

Yeah, lenshoods.. if i had any for these...
Well, the vivitar is extreme. The Aparture thing is not the flare, its right in the middle, unsharp and covering half the picture (depending on size of aperture.)
nvermind, I'll get lenshood timt after time. just got my a pro tripod....

Hey Rio Rico,
thank you for your reply, I guess Ill just keep shooting until I learn and know what exaktly I need to be better... the Vivitar 1.9 for example is strange... lens flare, I can see the aperture burned into dark areas when expose a little longer...

hey, that's fast answers! thank you.
budget restricts me to used gear.
If I was to film with a K-7 in a club (Livemusic) I had to use MF and fixed Aperture anyway, so even a m42 would have sufficient controls...
Primes welcome.
So If I have a splendid 50 f1.4 with that takumar, what' playing in that league?
Do I have to spend big buck on Limiteds, Zeiss or even Leica or are there older gems that I should try to get first?

Hi everybody!
I'll give you a list of my gear, just to set a starting Point for my lens-Quest.
I bought an istDL a couple of years ago, along with a 16-45 f4.0 zoom.
And just some weeks ago I FOUND some lenses from my fathers old pentax stock along with an original and unused Pentax m42 adapter.
So I have m42s:
SMC takumar 50/f1.4
SMC takumar 135/f2.5
Vivitar 35/f1.9
Vivitar 90/f2.8 makro
K-mount:
m 50/f2.0
FA 28-200 3.8-5.6 zoom
some EXACTA 500mm MirrorTele with fixed f8 (suspected for being useless)
and the mentioned DA 16-45 f4 ED-AL
So here the quest:
how to work you way up the ladder and where to look?
for stills and Vids (mostly in lowlowlight) with the DL and most likely the K-7 or its successor.
I suspect the two m42 to be already very good...
The top seems to be
Leica converted to Pentax Mount. hmmm. yep, pricey. not yet...
Could you tell where to look among the pentax lenses and the other „top“ brands?
like Zeiss, Voigtländer (?) ...
Main goal is: great performance under ridiculuos circumstances..
thank you

Hi there,
just for an introduction. working as a graphic designer I was confronted with ... subpar input from our „fotographers“. So I had to dig into this all by myself. I took my istDL and some old smc-lenses to do some indoor-Pics.
That sort of sparked my interest in lenses and Cameras beyond just taking the occasional snapshot.
That's why I'm here: harras all of you with my newbie-questions:)
