Need advice on small front speakers for my home theater

Hello, I'm looking at front speakers for the livingroom, they have to stand or lay on a bench below the tv that will be on the wall, they can not be too big (or expensive). It is a 5.1 system, and I've been looking at Klipsch R-15M, the passive ones, but I would like the fronts to go below 62hz (probably), but the size and looks are good. They will be paired with a 10" Sony sub, might go for a 12" later because I'm not very impressed by my current one. I listened to the Klipsch at a local store with a klipsch sub, the sound was very nice, but the reference material was some old Madonna vinyl, not what I'm going to use them for. :) I dont like when the sub is playing too high frequencies, and I'm afraid I will get disappointed with fronts that don't go lower.

Also looked at the Pioneer S-CN301-LR, but haven't been able to try them. I'm a bit skeptical because they are smaller and lighter. They go down to 45hz, but what is the compromise? The truth is that I probably dont need the best audio quality there is, but as good as possible would be nice.

Any advice?

Substitute for Lightroom - open source?

Was just a tiny bit of sarcasm in my post, but I'm not that good at English. That picture of the tools area thing represents what the actual screen looks like - shit. What I meant was that it's hard to use because the raw files looks like crap. Don't want to start my editing with blown highlights on all pictures, even underexposed ones. Maybe it's just on my machine but it doesn't work with my .arw files. Rawtherapee froze too many times in an hour to be useful on my machine - makes it hard to use.

Capture one worked out of the box. Very nice feature...

Haven't tried darktable, haven't got Linux installed, might try on my Mac later.

Update! :) So what did I learn?

Tried RawTherapee - had to force stop it several times because it stopped responding. The crop function made me so mad I rage quit the ****. :( At this moment it wont be shut off from the X button in the upper corner, crap software.

Then I tried LightZone - Sony A7 raw files look like shit when I open them. :) Need to unlock and disable things to even make the image look OK. Do not want this... Below is how a slightly underexposed picture looks like when I open it in the editor with default settings.

What the he.. am I supposed to do? am I too stupid for those softwares? Lightroom might not be perfect, but I cant use any of the above. :) Leaning towards buying LR.

Edit:

Downloaded Capture One for Sony only, and it's free. :) Workflow seems OK and I managed to edit a picture with a pretty good results for being the first time. Only problem is that it wont work with my K-5 or Q that I rarely use these days. Mainly shoot A7 with Takumars.

I'm not very active at the moment. I take some pictures and keep them in the camera, but I don't import them to the computer very often. And what I tend to do in Lightroom is not worth 10 dollars per month. I think something open source should do just fine for me at this moment. :)

Great! I will start with RawTherapee, saw a tutorial on youtube and it looks promising.

Interesting read! Thanks

Thanks for all the answers! :) Guess I'll just have to try a few of them out!

Not interested in Adobes CC at the moment. I don't use the computer enough to justify it these days.

I've googled this quite a lot and haven't found anything solid. Are there any substitutes for Lightroom that are free? Downloaded Gimp, but its rather a substitute for Photoshop ofc. I guess you know what I'm looking for. What are the alternatives?

Want to process raw files from both my Q, K-5 and Sony A7.

Thanks

Just updating my A7 from version 1.01. What is different? :)

I'm getting old and slow at these things (soon 28)... Used to know every new feature that came with new firmware.

Are there any ways to zoom images in preview etc?

Hello. Randomly put my 16-45 on my Sony A7. Was surprised how good it actually works. Took some test pictures to show.

16mm is not very good. Also the hood gets in the way at 16-20mm. At about 21-24mm it gets very usable - not very good sharpness in the extremes but. I wouldn't buy this to use on an FF body, but if you alredy have it it might be worth saving? ~20-45mm works good so I think I will keep mine, the insane near limit + the nice sharpness is good to have.

All pictures are taken wide open!! Wonder how it would perform stopped down in daylight.

This is a crop from 24mp raw iso 1600, at around 24mm f4

16mm with hood - not very nice. Looks much better without hood, but still huge vingetting.

Thanks.

We'll see if I ever buy a Pentax FF. I'm not very hopeful that it will be an A7 killer... Anyway the A7 with 28-70 OSS would not be special if it wasn't for the price I got it for. It's build quality and controls are not as good as on my pentax cameras since k-7. But the 1.0 crop factor + a nice viewfinder that allows me to focus with very good accuracy is nice. I've found the accuracy to vary a lot on my cameras with ovf, my old k-20 and k-7 was not accurate, same with one of the canon 5d's I've had. I don't want to bother with changing screens and such. The A7 viewfinder never lies and is almost perfect. :)

How is the FA 35 on FF? Mine doesn't seem to focus on infinity on my K-5, but haven't tried on A7 yet. Judging from that shot you posted it looks very good.

I bought a lens from a guy on the Internet, saw no pics and I could not go see it. I sent my father to pick it up as he lived near by. A Takumar 50 1,4 for 50$, I already had one, but for that price...

So when I got it, it was a very worn and old looking super-takumar, but the glass was clean and the focus ring the smoothest I've ever felt on any lens - perfect.

Started looking the lens up and noticed that it was the 8 element version. :)))

I think it's very nice, it's certainly one of my best lenses. The SMC 7 element is much better in sunlight, the 8 element produces a nice big purple hexagon in the middle of the frame.

I've bought too many lenses that are bad, fungus, sticky apertures and though focus rings (none of those Takumar ^^).

So I've bought some tools and started servicing the lenses myself. I started out with some pentacon and Meyer glass. Plastic and crap inside - shitty quality to be honest. Fungus and "cleaning marks" are often very easy to get rid of as soon as you get the glass out of the lens. I've found that most cleaning marks are just dirt in the corners of the lens where it's hard to wipe without removing the glass. BTW. On my German glass I've been able to get rid of all the fungus without leaving any marks at all, no problem. I've just started getting comfortable enough to start operating on my Takumars, I recently cleaned my SMC 35 3,5 without too much trouble.

What I'm trying to say is that lenses that look defective often is very easy to fix. Minor amounts of fungus etc can really ruin the iq of a lens. Got 4-5 pentacon lenses with fungus and severe hazing, all I'm sure will be like new afterwards. Also got a pentacon 50 1.8 that I'm gonna replace the fat on, and my 135 Orestor with sticky aperture. No problems fixing what is often sold as defective. Turning down glass because it's dust inside is just stupid imo, it takes minutes to remove.

Don't be afraid of anything except damaged glass :)

Thanks. No more filing for me, will sell the 5D now. :)

It seems so... weird that there is such a function when it only works in preview. Will look in to Smugmug or something like that. Would be nice to be able to export a couple of sizes with one push in lightroom, will have to google that too. :)

Edit: how do I resize the images when I post them here? If I drag them smaller when editing it doesn't work? :l

So I was out with the A7 for the first time in daylight. Brought my FA 43 and my Super Takumar 24mm.

First is with the Takumar, really love the bokeh it produces, think it's f5,6. The takumar is really nice on FF, it's very sharp in the center, the extremes are not super, but who cares, the lens is incredible.

FA 43, f1.9 or f2.8, can't remember. The 43 produces such clear and nice images. The FF sensor brings this lens back to life - it's now a normal lens with more 3D and everything! :)

Finally got what I've been wanting for years, a "Pentax" FF. This brings new life to the 43. The only problems is the functions, buttons and menus, the lack of anti shake that becomes a noticeable problem on a light camera like this, with my 5D mk1 it's just like it has anti shake because of the weight. But I don't regret buying this at all. It's amazing on higher ISO.

Will update with some pictures later, but it's hard to get a shot here this time a year. Only got a few hours of daylight and everything is dull outside. :)

Edit: I've got a feeling this thread will continue to grow a lot. :)
Btw, I bought this camera with the 28-70 OSS for about as much as I paid for my K-7 with 18-55 a few years ago, what a deal.

Exactly. I will never buy a camera without Wifi again, my k-5 is the old dumb brick of a phone and the Sony a7 I want is a smartphone. This guy (Rambo) has also stated that fa 43 is an average lens. :) Will not trust anything he says after that. :D

Great reply mglowe! :)

I shot the 24 today. I dont find it similar to the 28 as someone in the review section said. Posting a pic, not worth showing here so I'll just link to it. It's sliiightly edited, some - on shadows and some + on highlights and + .3 exposure, nowthing more, raw from K-5 iso 800 wide open. This lens gave me a very good first impression, need to use it more! Just love how soft everything looks in that picture, slight front focus, but still! The 28 would probably give much rougher bokeh with that swirly look.

Explain this please. :o

Just bought. Just bought my fourth 55 1.8, and there's something about it. Never seen it on a pentax lens before! EDIT: "1960: Auto-Takumar 1:1.8/55 (second model) - 3rd photo above - despite the name Auto-Takumar this lens has a fully automatic diaphragm like the later Super-Takumar lenses. The aperture ring turns the opposite way compared to all later lenses!"
That's fun, how many versions of every Takumar are there? :)

These are my three new puppies, a nice addition to my Takumar shelf. Never used the 24mm before, what do you think about it? And what do you think about the ST 35 3,5 vs the SMC 35 (haven't had time to test this ST). Also this ST 35 seems to have old looking letters, nice. :)
