Need to rent a workhorse lens for a wedding

I 'thought' I was looking for something with a better max aperture... Does 2.8 really get the job done? Her little 20-year-old 50mm lens is a 1.8 but it's all manual and the focus ring has so much travel that it takes ages to focus. Great for portraits but it would never fly at a wedding.

She wants to nail some really good artistic stuff.

Hello all. I am buried under a mountain of work for the next several months, otherwise I'd pour some time into researching this myself... but instead I'm hoping some of you pentax-o-philes can just serve up some good answers.

First, please keep in mind that I don't know much about cameras.

I bought my wife a K20-D last year and she's just using an old manual lens from her 20-year-old 35mm SLR and the stock lens that came with the kit.... far from spectacular. But she's shooting a wedding for a cousin in the spring and I wanted to see if I could rent a really nice, all-around lens for her. I'm thinking like a 1.4 that will offer enough versatility that I can just get 'one' and it will have her covered. My only stipulations are that it have a decent zoom range and autofocus capability. I'm assuming there are some lenses in the $2,000 - $3,000 range that I could rent for a week since I definitely can't afford to buy anything like that right now...

So, any recommendations for lenses and where to rent them from? Any help would receive my eternal gratitude.

Ordered.

They wanted an extra $23 bucks for expedited shipping... I'm certainly doing better than I used to be but I'm not stupid :)

She can wait.

thanks y'all!

Thanks for all the help folks.

So just to confirm, this is what I need?

PentaxWebstore Mount Adapter K(35m m Screwmount to Bayonet)

It looks to me like there's still a flange; the lens still won't be sitting flush with the body.

Woah. Thanks guys; you're fast. My Dodge forum people usually take a few days to get around to helping me out... and my car issues way more urgent than my wife's camera woes. (Don't tell her I said that.)

Yeah I bought an el-cheapo adapter from eBay. I think it was like $7 bucks shipped. I'd never have considered it could be the flange on the adapter. It's pretty astounding that something so minuscule could have such a dramatic impact.

Thanks again for the help! I'll be back with more noob questions you-can-be-sure.

I recently bought my wife a K20D. I also got her the screw-mount lens adapter.

I turned off the aperture ring requirement in-camera and the lens takes INCREDIBLE shots of close and medium-distance objects but it won't focus to infinity for some reason.

After mounting the lens and booting the camera it asks for the focal length and I've tried it on every setting and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey everyone. My wife doesn't really do the forum thing... so I figured I'd join and ask questions for her. I recently bought her a K20D (which she loves) and it's her first DSLR. She was a photography major in college doing a lot of medium and large format photography so she remained a film purist up until she got to shoot with a friend's Pentax last year... suddenly her mind was changed.

I do have a particular question so I'll move on to the appropriate section.

Nice to meet you all!
