I understand fully that feeling of knowing you could have done so much better, but I hope that with the passage of time, you come to realise that the shot you have got remains stunning. Sometimes the 'looks good from afar' effect is very valuable in itself...
On the other hand, there will be a total solar eclipse in Sydney in 2028, so you'll have to come here and show me how it's done!

Mike, I saw on Facebook some of your slapstick difficulties on the day (hope you're alright!). But when it comes to this shot, all I can say is WOW! Just wonderful! So glad you got this for your considerable efforts.

I guess I don't need to tell you where this was taken!
Top of the picture is a multi-image stack over about 90 minutes. That was then combined with some low ISO frames - including to extend the scene at the bottom, so it's a pano of sorts, made easy by the use of a shift lens.

Final shot in this sequence of images of churches in the Grantham (Lincolnshire, UK) area.
St. Wulfram's church again, on a misty morning. I actually went to a primary school immediately adjacent to this viewpoint (from the ages of 7-11) and became so familiar with the fact that one corner of the tower is outsize that I hardly even notice it any more. This is because that's where the spiral staircase runs up the tower (years later, I'd often walk up those stairs to ring the church bells!).

I've never had any 645 camera so can't speak from experience on this. But a good friend of mine (who's expertise is considerable) did have that problem and fixed it by getting an Nii. So perhaps it's camera/film/user- specific. Different films have different thicknesses/rigidity, which might make a difference. Similarly apertures used, loading technique might be relevant.

Is there not also a difference in terms of being able to ask the camera to use 15-frames on a 120 film rather than 16-frames - which, I think, had some benefit in terms of film flatness...

I fully agree, Tuco - usually, I try to do such corrections with a light touch so that things are corrected without introducing new problems! However, the shot that prompted this discussion is a special case IMO; the lighting conditions made me want to create something surreal, and the bizarrely correct perspective somehow added to that for me.

Yes, that is so. But I find that sometimes I need more correction than the lens itself will allow in a given situation. For example, the picture posted above in message #20308 was so tight that getting things perfectly straight would have required maybe 16mm of shift upwards. The max. the lens allows is 12mm, and quality falls off after about 10mm. So sometimes I will shift upward to the max. that the lens allows, then make the final parts of the adjustment in post. This gives a much better result than doing it all in post.

You raise a great point, Tuco - and I do agree. By the way, in this latest image, it was all done with shifting the lens (not in post), but your point stands. In general, I favour correcting to some extent but not trying to make it "perfect", as it looks more real somewhere between flawed and perfect. However, this image looks surreal and sinister, so I felt the oddly straight corrected perspective added to that mood.

Paul, Mike, Theuns, mingmonk, w2ck, Jonathan, dbs, volley, mxlx - very well said and I do agree with what you're saying. I absolutely love this thread. The images are superb; the people contributing them even better. We share a love of image-making together and I consider many people here friends and like-minded souls. This thread has rarely been about the gear, but all about the art, the experience, the camaraderie and the joy.
When I referenced 'being able to see both sides of the debate', what I meant was that this thread is on pentaxforums.com, so I can theoretically understand how someone might argue that the focus should be exclusively on images made with Pentax gear. But that has never been the case with this thread, so I see no reason to suddenly change things just because there seems to be some reaction to Fuji. So much would be lost by such a move and very little (if anything) gained.
I too would put myself in the camp of being someone who only considered purchasing a non-Pentax camera because of the lack of an update to the Z. I'd have stayed on-brand had that happened.
Just wish we could settle this once-and-for-all and avoid having to repeat the angst again in the future :-)

I can genuinely see both sides of this debate and I really don't want anyone to be upset at the result. That's why I'd prefer to have a totally definitive steer from the Forum about what we should do here. The precedents are clear, as it's always been all/any Medium Format on this thread - but I think it would be best for everyone if the dispute could be settled once and for all, not by us individual members but by an official decision. If we simply allow the former to happen, I am sure the issue will keep coming up again as more new members join. And I frankly am rather tired of the unpleasantness that eventuates whenever this issue rears its head again.

I have always understood that this particular thread is for showcasing all and any medium format images, despite being on Pentax Forums. I do notice that images taken with old (non-Pentax) film cameras don't ever seem to attract the ire of the people who object to non-Pentax digital images being shown. I wonder what to make of that?
In any case, I'm quite happy to take the instructions of the Moderators here. What's allowed and what isn't? Despite having a GFX100S these days, I still consider myself a Pentaxian. The 645Z still sees some use, as do all of my Pentax lenses on both cameras - and I've been an avid Pentax fan for nearly 25 years. You may also note that some of the people posting with non-Pentax gear are Site Supporters (something to consider, perhaps); it suggests that some of us feel part of a wider community of Pentaxian friends, regardless of what gear is used to make any particular image (provided it's medium format). However, if images taken without Pentax gear are not permitted here, I may slope off into the distance rather than having to remember only to post images used with some pieces of my equipment over others. All just too tricky and pedantic to my mind. I'd accept the decision in good grace, but I'd miss the place and many people here, were that to happen.
I can certainly see both sides of the issue here, so no hard feelings whatever the outcome is. However, since this issue does crop up periodically - and often with some angst/bile in the communication - I do feel it's best that it be settled with finality for us all.
Mods - are you able please to advise definitively on this situation please? I don't want to rely on strongly expressed views of individual members but rather to have an absolute steer on what the rules are. Then we can all simply get on with it, whatever our personal views might be.

Dating back to the early 14th Century, St. Wulfram's church in Grantham (England) has a remarkable spire for a mere parish church - rising to 282 feet (making it the six tallest church spire in the country). There are elements of the church that date back even further, with Saxon and Norman features present.
I grew up in Grantham, before moving to other parts of the country then emigrating to Australia many years ago. I'm back in town to look after my Mum (who lives alone) as she recovers from surgery. She's now well enough that I'm gearing up to go home - and I've been able to go out and take a few pictures. As a child, I spent huge amounts of time in and about this church, having gone to C of E schools immediately adjoining it, so it's wonderful to be close to it again.
