I guess I thought the shot worked well and didn't think about the lack of converging lines. I suppose beauty (or lack thereof) is in the eye of the beholder.

I understand both sides. Unfortunately, Pentax no longer makes medium format cameras. Ran into the same problem years ago with the Pentax Point & Shoot contest forum. To keep it alive we allowed all brands, even cellphones. No one seemed to care. The contest still survives and is even mentioned in the Pentax forums e-mails. We are grateful for that.

It stings that the company responsible for driving Pentax out of the medium format market now has a large presence here. On the other hand, at least our Pentax lenses are useable on Fuji. With Pentax leaving the market it is hard to not feel a little sad.

How about PentaxForums? Since two moderators shoot Pentax 645Z and frequent this thread, I doubt posting pictures from other camera brands is officially frowned upon. We should also consider the welfare of PentaxForums. With Pentax leaving the Q and medium formats and the encroaching cellphones it can't be as easy to break even on these forums. More visitors are better. There are prize giveaways and even weekly email updates on content posted here. Do we really want to reduce posts and weaken this fine home?

I enjoy the forum and the medium format pictures and hope it stays as is.
Thanks,
barondla

Well now that the dust has settled a bit here's another Fuji photo. :)
I took my kit out on an evening xc ski. I didn't get as far as I was hoping before the light faded so this was what I was able to reach.

Absolutely agree! The more medium format images the better. This is a great column and the equipment used is solely of technical interest.

Pentax.

Then Pentax going bankrupt.

Hoya buying back Pentax.

Hoya selling the "Camera Division" to Ricoh.

We should consider ourselves lucky to still be able to make pictures with Pentax-branded equipment.

I went through a similar trauma in the film era, using Minolta-X 35 mm cameras and MC/MD lenses.

Minolta went "autofocus" and changed the bayonet configuration so MC/MD lenses were no longer usable.

Then Minolta sold to Konica. Then Konica sold the 'Camera Division" to Sony.

Last year I found a Fotodiox adapter permtting me to mount Minolta MC/MD lenses on a Pentax K mount.

I can use my terrific Pentax 67 lenses on my Pentax 645 cameras with a Pentax adapter, use my Pentax 645 lenses on my K mount bodies with a Pentax adapter, vary my picture-taking possibilities ad nauseam.

Everything keeps changing around us, just like the Universe.

Why develop a temper tantrum over the use of FUJI medium-format cameras ? The only thing that matters is "making images", isn't it !!

Best Regards to everyone !

Mate, you're a nice guy so you want to solve things. On a forum it's as rare as hens teeth that there are as few people thinking they are at an airport and feel the need to announce their departure, as there are in this thread. There's a risk in any forum of people doing that, yet it happens very rarely here. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. It's a very harmonious thread where people have learned a lot from each other, let's not encourage action that would threaten that.

This thread is a rare gem. A thread on a photographic forum that isn't pixel peeping and playing spec sheet top trumps.

If someone is upset about the brand of camera used and they want to go elsewhere, then wish them well and let them go. Otherwise it will be another something silly soon, like it must be jpg out of camera, or editted with Silkypix, etc.

I don't think this is in need of an official decision. I do find it peculiar that someone makes a demand for a change, otherwise they walk.... If they dont like it here they can walk anyway, silently, without dumping some concocted puritan demand.

Sorry to disagree Ed, but I don't see both sides of this. This thread on the forum is what it is, shaped and created by very talented people. Everybody can appreciate it as it is, or leave. Nobody is forced into anything.

If the discussion had been along the lines of "oh my Fuji takes images that are so much better than my Pentax did" then I would get the other side of the argument. It has never been like that at any point, and that is what makes this thread so special. it's about the images. Yes we've had little discussions about processing styles when changing camera, and I suspect that my images are still more velvia style than they were when I was shooting Pentax. But the essential part of this thread is that it is a community of photographers where hardware is not the be-all and end all. I've met one or two people that have contributed in these posts on this mammoth thread, and I'd like to meet more. I reckon we could easily enjoy a meet-up somewhere and chew the fat, shoot some photos and hang out over a beer or three. That's what makes this thread so special.

There are no fanboys here. Just images. That is as perfect as it can get. Let's not try and fix what isn't broken.

Off the top of my head, there are threads for Minolta lenses, Canon lenses, L-mount cameras, Sony E-mount cameras, Fujifilm X cameras... all on this forum. Some of them can be used in conjunction with Pentax gear, some can't, and to my knowledge no-one has ever complained. The people involved, I believe and myself included, still regard themselves as Pentaxians even if Pentax isn't their only, or even main, camera gear. I think part of being a Pentaxian is being more "fan" and less "fanboy" and being open to using other gear for whatever reason.

Pentax has sort of abandoned medium format and so folks who continue to shoot medium format have moved on to Fuji. I don't think this thread is brand specific -- it says post your medium format photos.

Personally, I enjoy the images, regardless of the brand of camera used to make those images.

Many of the people who post here started with Pentax medium format and then moved on to something else, Fujifilm in the case of digital and many other brands in the case of film, and many are using Pentax lenses on Fujifilm cameras. Part of what makes Pentaxforums the best photography forum on the internet is that it allows a certain amount of stuff from other brands, and not just for medium format. Most of the people here are not rabid fanboys of the brand, just fans, and appreciate that other brands can exist in harmony and teach other lessons.

If you don't want to see Fujifilm MF then look elsewhere, or start your own Pentax-exclusive MF thread.
