Great shots! I love the waterfalls and moving water of the Pacific NW. With all of the rain, snow melt and elevation changes there are endless streams and waterfalls to explore. The winter might be overcast and kinda gloomy, but the diffused light that comes with it is perfect for waterfall connoisseurs :)

Thanks! Here is a shot from the same roll at Lost Lake. There are mostly evergreens skirting the lake shore, but I was able to find a few pockets of nice fall foliage.

Shot with my Hasselblad 500cm and 80mm C T* on Portra 160

Not all together...I have been shooting more film as of late, so that lead to the Pentax sell off. I know down the road there will be a Pentax and a few primes in my kit ;) I need to jump back into the PF "Medium Format" thread with you guys, there's some great stuff in there and the banter is always fun.

Pentax k5 need external flash help

While the Pentax flash system isn't quite as strong/versatile as another major DSLR, I feel it's more than capable for most applications. I've used mine for wedding coverage, outdoor fill flash (which isn't stupid at all) and two at one time wirelessly for macro purposes.

I actually have two flash units listed for sale in the market place with some accessories (diffuser/sync cable for off camera flash) if you are interested.

Like I said, unless you need really fast recycling time or a lot of power, the Pentax flashes should work just fine for your applications.

So nice here in the NW last weekend, clear blue skies and views of snow capped mountains...hard to beat. Cool perspective/framing on that photo and great color. I have been reading very good things about the 18-55.

Went for a hike on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge near Coyote Wall. Views were awesome....the burger after the hike, maybe better ;) Held up traffic a bit to get some shots of my buddy on his bike. All with the X100

Happy Beer Friday! This weeks entry will have to go under the wine category, but I think it will pass.

It's was "Winter Blast 2014" here in Portland last weekend, the city completely shut down. Snow and then rain/ice....it was a real mess. Anyway, it gave my girlfriend and I am couple days off work (paid) which was great. Got to go out and enjoy the winter wonderland and take some photos. A local wine shop did a contest, "Show us Your Snowy Wine Photos". We submitted the photo below and won the contest! So now Sarah and I have a free charcuterie plate and wine tasting for two coming to us. Not too shabby for a snow day. While Sarah was all geared up in her snowboarding attire, I was upstairs in my flannel pj's hanging out the window with my camera :) Photo taken with my new X-E1 and 35mm

Headed out to Manzanita on the OR coast last weekend with some friends and a couple pups. Got a great house a couple blocks from the beach/town, had awesome weather, and saw one of our favorite bands in town at the Sand Dune. Plenty of laughs imbibing, games, beach combing and photography.....plus a late night beach bonfire/beers with a sky full of stars.

Took along my X100 as always and shot a couple rolls of MF film which have yet to reach the lab. I shot all my X100 shots on Raw + Jpeg with it set on monochrome which I enjoy. Haven't touch the Raw, as I am happy with how the B/W Jpegs look.

Got out shooting a bit with my new/used Fuji X-E1 that I picked up. Got a trio of lenses as entry into the Fuji interchange lens realm. This one is with the 55-200. ISO 200 f/9 1/680 of a sec. @ 200mm mounted on a tripod. I shot this RAW + Jpeg, but just tweaked the jpeg a bit.

Mt. Hood from Jonsrud Point in Sandy OR just before sunset.

Beer Friday!

Here is a shot from last weekend. My buddy is from Rochester NY...the home of Genesee Beer (Genny), so any time he sees it in a store he buys it......even if it's the last six pack on the shelf, has the 4th of July can style from 7 months ago, and a thick layer of dust on it ;)

What's that on his hand? Only a knit can coozie mitten! A friend got us a pair for Xmas. Keeps your hand warm and the beer locked it.....just that sometimes after a few you forget it's there leading to some spillage :p

Here is a photo of my buddy from a backpacking trip late last summer. Cooking dinner along the shore of Green Lake with Broken Top in the background. Sous vide pork chops, rice/peppers and a view that was hard to beat.

Here are a couple photos from a trip up to Whidbey Island last fall. Both shot with my Hasselblad 500cm. The first on Fuji 100F with a 10mm extension tube (tough to get that little guy in focus) and the second on Portra 160.

Ha, funny photo :) They are weird little creatures, but people sure do love their pugs. Here in PDX we even have a "Pug Crawl" where pug owners get together and go bar hopping. I may have mentioned a friend of mine has a pug....tough little thing. Even went on a 10 mile backpacking trip with us.

Here a photo of Sasha the pug you can share with Mrs. Rupert

Seems like I have been taking a lot of photos of food/drink lately :) Sarah and I stayed in PDX for the holidays to save vaca/money for a trip in Feb. Even though it was just the two of us, we kept busy in the kitchen on Xmas Eve and Xmas. Cooked up some home made pierogi (two ways) for Xmas Eve dinner. For those who aren't familiar, they are like Polish potstickers. The way my mom makes them with a vanilla/ricotta/cinnamon mixture....kinda sweet and savory....I also made them with a shredded pork tenderloin/goat cheese filling and scratch gravy. First time making them, but they turned out awesome. For breakfast the next morning we tried a Blackberry and toasted hazelnut sticky bun recipe with feta/chive eggs. Pretty much like little upside down buns with gooey goodness. Left over piergoi for lunch.....and finally for Xmas dinner I slow cooked a roast in my Cruset pot, scratch gravy, veggies/mashed potatoes and popovers. Never made pop overs either, but they popped so I was happy ;)

Missed home and my family of course (and a real Xmas tree....sad little Charlie Brown Xmas tree) but having some of the smells/tastes help bring me back to my moms kitchen....that and Skype ;)

Hope everyone had a great Xmas, and has a fun/safe New Years Eve!

Nice photos everyone!

I was up in that area this weekend. I got a big plate of BBQ at Podnah's, but not too much for photos.

Here is one from a foggy day last week up on Marquam Hill. Seemed like the whole city was socked in, but especially OHSU which is a few hundred feet higher. Oddly, I was the only one walking around taking photos ;) Here you can see the PDX aerial tram emerging from the abyss.

Beeeeeeer Friday! ;)

Rough day at work today....i can definitely use some suds tonight. Here is a beer photo from a recent beer and cheese pairing/tasting my friend held. This was the second annual event with a wide variety of beers/cheeses. I have a few more photos to follow.

From Upright Brewing here in PDX......This beer is simply named "Four"....not a real creative name, but as always, the description is.

"Four is a wheat beer embodying the spirit of country-style French & Belgian ales. It's light but nuanced with floral and herbal aromas and flavors, capped by a dry and mildly tart finish."

Exif Info:
Malts: pale, wheat, vienna
Hops: santiam

4.5%, 18 IBU's

Photos with my X100.

Hope everyone has a few cold ones in their fridge!

Then avert your eyes ;)

Here are some photos from Thanksgiving. I made a turchetta, which is a spin on a porchetta which is a boneless pork roast. De-boned the bird, skinned it, butterflied the breasts, rubbed them with herbs/bacon fat, rolled them up in the skin and tied them up butcher style. I cooked it in a home made sous-vide cooker at 140 degrees for 3 hours, then browned in a super hot pan. Took the bones, and made a stock with some aromatics/herbs, reduced it to a 1/3 and made gravy. Turned out so good, crazy moist and the gravy was awesome. Wish I had more left overs.

X posted the Fuji thread......shot in black/white

Here are some photos from a show last Friday. The band is Sassparilla...a group of five musicians that play a rock/ska/blues/jug band style. Instruments include harmonicas, homemade guitars, a wash tub bass, wash board, and a percussion kit with a gas can and shovel.....but man they put on a hell of a show. The venue is at the Doug Fir Lounge here in PDX. By far my favorite place to see a show. Small venue with awesome character/sound. Got right up front, and jumped up on stage to get some photos from above when they went into the crowd for an acoustic set. Photos with my X100.

I always wish that I had ordered prints, something about looking at a hard copy photo especially when it comes from a hard copy negative.....but MF can be pricey just to shoot and get your roll back so hard to always justify it.

Here is one from a recent trip to Lost Lake here in Oregon. Shot with my Hasselblad 500cm and 80mm C T* on Portra 160

Sorry Fuji peeps for hijacking the Fuji thread with film chit chat :) ......time for some more X100 photos.

Took a long weekend and went out near Bend OR for some backpacking with a couple buddies. We stopped at Smith Rock SP for a quick view and then onto the Green Lakes trailhead. The trail winds 5 miles along a waterfalls laden river, and up about 1500ft to Green Lake which sits at the base of South Sister and just to the west of Broken Top. It depends what angle you are at and what kind of light is hitting it, but you can see the emerald green/blue gradient. Did some fishing, couple bites but no dinner. I brought my X100 and my Hasselblad MF..... no tent this time which helped to lighten the load on my back. Instead we hung hammocks and slept under the stars which is hard to beat. Awesome trip.

Been too long since the last time I enjoyed my 15mm....still one of my favorite lens to shoot with. These are from a trip up to Whidbey Island last weekend. Not a whole lot of fall colors around the NW, but there were some to be photographed. The fog/mist added some interest but also some challenges. I found a few spider webs/mushrooms that benefited from the wet/dewy conditions.

Glad to hear you are healing up well, back on your "foot" before you know it! Got some photos for ya ;)

Been busy as of late. Took a trip up to Whidbey Island to visit some family. My Mom's cousin has some 22 acres of beautiful land to hike around and explore. The weather was challenging, as there was a decent amount of fog/overcast, but came back with a few keepers off the X100. Also shot a few with my K5 and Hasselblad, but those are for another thread. Sherwood, who owns the land, is quite a guy. He's in his late 70's, but you can still find him on his CAT, digging up his own septic tank, and planting more and more trees creating a really impressive piece of land. He dug out 3 small lakes, built his home on one, and has made a trail system around his property. He has also brought back a number of saplings from upstate NY over the years, which provides some nice pops of color against the evergreens. Also found some funky looking fungi.

More film on film action. The view is through a Pentax LX 35mm with waist lever finder. Shot with my Hasselblad 500cm / 80mm C T* lens and extension tube on T-Max 400.
