Not all together...I have been shooting more film as of late, so that lead to the Pentax sell off. I know down the road there will be a Pentax and a few primes in my kit ;) I need to jump back into the PF "Medium Format" thread with you guys, there's some great stuff in there and the banter is always fun.

Pentax One Degree Spot meter available. Perfect for the film shooter or simply to learn how to analyze exposure in scenes better. Much more accurate than a DSLR meter.

Feel free to PM with any questions.

Tamron 18-250 SOLD.......

One last piece of gear.....the Pentax One Degree Digital Spotmeter.

If anyone is interested in learning and putting into practice the Zone system of metering that Ansel made famous....this is the same meter he used. Great piece of gear that really helped me learn how to evaluate scenes. Please feel free to ask any questions.

While the Pentax flash system isn't quite as strong/versatile as another major DSLR, I feel it's more than capable for most applications. I've used mine for wedding coverage, outdoor fill flash (which isn't stupid at all) and two at one time wirelessly for macro purposes.

I actually have two flash units listed for sale in the market place with some accessories (diffuser/sync cable for off camera flash) if you are interested.

Like I said, unless you need really fast recycling time or a lot of power, the Pentax flashes should work just fine for your applications.

That story is definitely worth the $3.49 you paid for the six pack....even if the actual beer wasn't. That's my kinda girl, and hey, she even warned him.

---------- Post added 02-15-14 at 11:13 PM ----------

Hey all, I will be MIA from the forum for a few weeks. Sarah and I are catching a flight tomorrow morning to Thailand for a 3 week trip! We are spending a week on Phuket Island checking out some of the areas in/around Old Town in the SE parts, then meeting six other PDX friends up north for a couple of weeks of sailing around the Thai islands. Still need to map a course, but we have a 44' catamaran for 2 weeks to cruise around and check out all sorts of cool spots. Plus it will get us off "the grid" for a few weeks which we are both looking forward to.

Of course my two Fuji are coming with me. My X100, and my X-E1 with 14mm, 35mm and 55-200. I wanted to find a way to bring my MF Hass kit, but with limited space in a couple backpacks...... it may be staying home.

I know I will have plenty of photos to share upon our return and look forward to doing so. Wish us safe travels and see you all on the Fuji Forum in a few weeks!

Happy Beer Friday! This weeks entry will have to go under the wine category, but I think it will pass.

It's was "Winter Blast 2014" here in Portland last weekend, the city completely shut down. Snow and then rain/ice....it was a real mess. Anyway, it gave my girlfriend and I am couple days off work (paid) which was great. Got to go out and enjoy the winter wonderland and take some photos. A local wine shop did a contest, "Show us Your Snowy Wine Photos". We submitted the photo below and won the contest! So now Sarah and I have a free charcuterie plate and wine tasting for two coming to us. Not too shabby for a snow day. While Sarah was all geared up in her snowboarding attire, I was upstairs in my flannel pj's hanging out the window with my camera :) Photo taken with my new X-E1 and 35mm

Yeah, every so often they play his film on OPB....usually during a fundraising drive.

Then you would enjoy this book/film for sure. A cabin built with hand tools....he even carved his own bowls, spoons and door hinges....really impressive. Plus, he photography and film work is great. You strike me as a fella with a good imagination....I bet it's a hell of a cabin! ;)

Really cool photo! Love the mix of booze and camera porn ;) Gorgeous MF cameras and great light. Haven't had the "Sheep Dip"....any good?

---------- Post added 02-07-14 at 04:28 PM ----------

I'll add in a whiskey photo as well. Buffalo Trace is my go to Bourbon. Great flavor, just enough bite...plus the price is right.

The book is One Man's Wilderness. Written by Dick Proenneke who spent 30 years at Twin Lakes in Alaska, building a cabin from scratch with hand tools. Really impressive stuff....guy had some serious skills. The writing is excellent and the photos are great too. There is also a film that he shot called Alone in the Wilderness which is a good watch too. Highly recommend both.

Anyway it's a fun read anytime I am sitting around a cabin relaxing and sipping on some whiskey

I don't see too many mechanics/carpenters have to be on the go with their wrenches/saws though. I have a lot of gear, but not nearly as much as some out there....and I have a hard time deciding what to bring on a short walk around town. Then i get to a location to shoot and have to ponder what lens to use. I starting considering the gear more than my composition and the photo i am trying to make.

Print scan or not, that is a great photo and incredible view. Nice of the guy to give you a print.

When I do make it back to the UK someday I will have to hit you up for some of your favorite locations to check out.

I like the 800 photo as well, awesome tones and range....but I prefer the first shot with the Fuji too. Tighter framing which I think leads to a more interesting/unique composition. My eye starts at one of the peaks, follows it down, a trip down the river, to end up at the house/bridge.....really nice.

Wow, I really like this photo. Beautiful scene overall, the 35mm provided for excellent framing. The river cutting through....and the house/bridge to provide some perspective as to how the grand the scene really is. Awesome.

Is this in the Lake District?

Yep, seems like the are at least a couple rescues a year. We saw what we think was a Life Flight leaving the mountain and heading back toward PDX.....but that was mostly likely a skier/snowboarder. I have a funny mental image of you full of mountaineering gear, roped up with crampons on, trying to traverse the gap between the living/dining room.....while Mrs. Rupert just walks by with a bin of laundry :D ;)

I know you are being facetious, but sometimes a piece of new gear can spark creativity and make me want to shoot more....either way, I look forward to seeing you photos with the X-T1, and will be jealous when it arrives.

I like that photo. I think it deserves a re-post....after all, you did literally climb a mountain to get it ;)

Here in the NW, we are lucky to have a handful of snow capped mountains. The Cascade Range which stretches from Northern CA all the up through OR and WA into Southern BC, provides for some beautiful views. Mt Hood is a frequent subject, but to me never really gets old......maybe because I come from a flat lands of MN just south of you.

I like the 55-200 a lot so far. I haven't used a telephoto in a while, mostly shooting with my Fuji X100 and MF film gear. I like how I can compress a scene and give the some perspective with a subject in the photo. For this shot I moved back behind Sarah about 30-40 feet and zoomed in. In hindsight I would have either upped the ISO from 200 or brought a tripod back so I could stop down the lens a bit to get more depth of field....this was at F/8.

Got out shooting a bit with my new/used Fuji X-E1 that I picked up. Got a trio of lenses as entry into the Fuji interchange lens realm. This one is with the 55-200. ISO 200 f/9 1/680 of a sec. @ 200mm mounted on a tripod. I shot this RAW + Jpeg, but just tweaked the jpeg a bit.

Mt. Hood from Jonsrud Point in Sandy OR just before sunset.
