During my trip to Yosemite, I wasn't always able to capture this much details hand holding my K-1 Mark II. I believe I used pixel shift in hand held mode when I captured this. Half Dome View by Andrew Richardson, on Flickr

Autofocus made the K-5 series a bit frustrating. Other than that it’s a great camera. The K-3 iii definitely has better autofocus performance hands down.
I had a friend of mine say, “You could put a $15,000 Canon camera in the hands of one person but he or she couldn’t get much in focus. You can put a budget camera in the hands of some else and they will nail the shot.”

If Pentax wanted to compete with Nikon, Sony and Canon they would have developed a mirrorless camera and used a new mount. I'm impressed by what I've seen from the mirrorless cameras but I don't really care at this point. The big three all seem to have developed their latest cameras with new mounts. Do I really need ISO 10,000? I never go that high. True they have nice burst rates and autofocus is great. As a guy who takes a lot of bird and wildlife photos, yeah it would be nice. I could possibly buy a Pentax to Sony adapter.
Anyway I just bought a K-1 mark 2 and I'm admiring the camera for now. It's my first FF. It feels like a well built awesome camera. I'll be using it for landscapes and some creative photos.

I purchased my copy hoping to would fill a hole in my focal range and enable me to photograph subjects that can be a problem to get close to. The lens has slightly exceeded my expectations. I got a nice photo of a butterfly skipper with it by using my K-5iis at F/5.6 the other day. The image was like I had used a macro lens. It has been a great lens for swallowtail butterflies.
Here is mine with a neoprene coating from Outdoor photography gear in the UK. The price is less than what LensCoat wants.
I guess the Sigma 1.4X teleconverter is something I could use at times. Has anyone tried the pentax 1.4x teleconverter? Outdoor Photography Gear UK by Andrew Richardson, on Flickr

I just stumbled upon this thread. When I was looking at the menu on my K-3 iii, I swore I saw a place in the menu for skin tones and yes, I just found it in the "Image Process Settings" Section 6. Maybe that helps.

I'm tentatively planning a trip to Yosemite in September or October. After investigating some photographs, it seems most landscapes there could be duplicated with a K-1 and the 24-70mm F/2.8. A few people have even used a 100-400 when they are avoiding a plain dull sky. I have a K-3 iii and the older 16-50 F/2.8 but I am considering buying the other camera... Oh boy... more money spent already. Seems to me that flying into Sacramento would be a better option than San Francisco.

Did you read the correct review? I recently posted a review of the Sigma 300mm F/2.8 and I’m sure others gave it a higher score than that. I personally give it at least a 9.5. It sharpens up nicely at F/3.2. If you use F/2.8 and you nail the focus, all you have to do is sharpen it a little bit in Topaz denoise AI and you can have a very sharp subject. K-3 III with Sigma 500mm F/4.5 Belted Kingfisher by Andrew Richardson, on Flickr
I posted this here in large. It blew up nicely but it took up a large portion of the width. So I bought it down to size.

I just purchased a 3 last week. The menu is different and it took me a while to get used to it. I went to the zoo today in challenging lower light conditions with cloudy skies and a tree canopy. This camera is probably a stop to 1 1/2 stops better than the regular K-3. I read the shake reduction has been improved also. So I would say if you have to work in more challenging lighting conditions, go ahead with it. I'm keeping my copy.

lol...These people are like fans of sports teams. It's the same mentality. I've encountered and heard about the occasional arrogant Nikon fan. Most people in the field aren't true photographers. I don't consider myself a true photographer. Most of my little debates have been with Canon fans. I think of them as pic snappers. They typically brag about great Canon is at high ISOs and that it has no noise. That doesn't get anywhere with me. I always counter that argument. I tell them, "I can shoot in high iso but it's like "Why?" Do I need a faster shutter speed? Do I need to stop my lens down? Unless I'm doing night photography.... I might tell them, yeah you have no really visible noise but when you stop cropping and then post processing, you start running into problems with bird photography.
Edit: Then I might actually see their works online and I'm thinking "Wait a minute, I thought he said no noise." lol

I'm pleased with the Irix 150mm macro. This photo was taken at F/2.8 and it's still sharp at this aperture. I had to shoot through a fence to get this and the effect of the fence wasn't hard to edit out because it was almost non-existent. A little sharpening with Topaz denoise AI mainly because I like that software. Bobcat by Andrew Richardson, on Flickr

I don't see why they won't. My sigma 500mm f/4.5 had a similar problem and I mailed it to the company. This happened years ago.

I like chasing butterflies with my lenses also. I thought the female black swallowtails had the greater amount of blue dots on the hindwings.

I almost exclusively shoot in AF.A or AF.C. Red or white squares are possible in either mode with my K-3. What I should say is I’ve had problems with autofocus with the Sigma 500mm F/4.5 “when” I’ve used white squares. After testing both sets of squares indoors, my suspicions were confirmed. Please just take my finding and test it yourself.
