Thank you!
Thank you! I was afraid being on the west side of the island at sunrise wouldn't be pretty. Turns out it was, but only for about 15 minutes.
Having the right gear in this case is 9/10 of the battle. I used a mini travel tripod (ultra pod II) and a ND64 (6-stop) filter from Urth. Otherwise it's just take shots at different focus points and blend them in Photoshop.
Thank you!
Thank you for all the C&C! The sprig of green was intentional, but I wanted a bit more. Nature demanded the tripod location not change, and I only brought one lens with me, so I was stuck on field of view. That said, it worked out well enough! As for the tide pool - yeah the water was all over the place, and the focus stacking actually creates some effects in the water of its own accord (though not bad).
Thank you, Tony!

My first attempt at both long exposure with neutral density filters and focus stacking. C&C welcome! |

Thanks folks! It's amazing how still dragonflies will sit for extended periods. I've not had that luck with many other bugs.

This is at 1:2 magnification. Taken with the Tokina "Bokina", and I just love that bokeh on the wings.

Thanks for the suggestion, Yucatan. The stars looking as triangles isn't due to starbursts in this case. If I defocus a bit, instead of getting regular bokeh circles, there's a bright spot at the top of the circle. It looks similar to comatic aberration, but at the center of the lens instead of the edge/corner where it's expected.
I'll do a brick wall test too and see if focus is better on one side than the other.

I've got a new FA31: the last of the Adorama SMC stock. I tried some astrophotography, and unfortunately the star shapes aren't symmetrical about the middle of the image. I get triangles in the middle instead of circles, which likely implies decentering in the lens.
So I'm considering sending it in for warranty work, but I don't want the repair shop to just say it's in spec and send it back. Do any of you have experience getting decentering repairs under warranty? If so, how'd it go?

7 months from first contact to receiving it back. 1 month was waiting for a response on whether they'd even accept it, the other 6 months was mostly spent with the lens sitting on their shelf.
Pros:
- The lens was cleaned properly.
- The repair was 1/3 the cost of US quotes, even with shipping to Japan.
Cons:
- It takes so long you will think you may never see the lens again.
- Low to no communication, I felt like I was nagging by asking every couple weeks after 4 months went by.
To be fair... COVID

I was blessed to pick one up. Now time to decide between it and the Zeiss 35/2 that I already own. It'd be hard to justify keeping both...

Pentax FA 20-35 f/4 Excellent Condition Asking Price
325.00 USD Item Location
Colorado (United States) Item Description
I'm selling an excellent copy of the Pentax FA 20-35mm F/4 AL.
No problems with the lens, auto-aperture and auto-focus work great. There are some slight cosmetic defects on the hood (see pictures). Optics look excellent - some minor dust as expected, but nothing to affect image quality.
Comes with genuine front and rear caps, and I'll even throw in a generic UV filter that I used to protect the front element while I was using it. PM me for a link to full-size sample images from both K-1 and K-5 iis cameras. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Thanks, Mike. I tried to get some moon shots with my 645 300 A* and they all ended up blurry. It was really low though, so maybe the atmosphere was messing it up.

If you're in the northern hemisphere and you were pointing near the north star, the stars would streak upwards in addition to spinning.
Point the camera West, then put the magnet near the left (South) side. You should get longer streak lengths. Same for pointing East and sticking the magnet on the right (South) side.

Ah, the coveted 125mm - I might yet try for this one. As for the others, I've loved my Zeiss 35/2 in KA and Spiratone 20/2.8 KA (or Sigma DP0Q) in those focal lengths. I might try for the new Irix 45mm f/1.4, as it certainly seems a well corrected machine, and in KA to boot!
It's funny that using Leica glass is more blasphemous than not using Leica glass... Still, when in Rome...

Overall, very impressed with the lens! It's so small that I didn't even stand out. :)

Any chance of improved weather on the horizon? :)
Yes, I have - it's certainly an option. I think I'd prefer the 600mm, as I could get by fine with my 300mm F/4 for that focal length zone. Those are some great pictures though!
That's fantastic detail! Were you using a tracking mount, or was it just short shutter time? Was that shot wide open or stopped down a click or two?

What are you shooting mostly these days Digitalis? Any Voigtlanders?
I used to have the Nokton 58/1.4. I actually didn't like it all that much (except for the build quality of course). I'd love to try the new Noktons and APO lenses being released, but alas for K mount.
I now have and shoot a Lanthar 180/4 APO which I adore. I'm not sure if Voigtlander/Cosina have ever made a lens at longer focal length, and this one they only made for a very short while. I imagine the market for manual focus does not oft include telephoto work.
