Just acquired a tiny (pancake-style) zoom lens for my E-M5.iii - the minuscule 14-42mm Zuiko EZ - which has a mixed reputation. But I've seen enough fantastic pictures produced by some Olympians (is that the right word for those who use Olympuses?) that I'm willing to take the chance. Plus, it seems just the right (small) size to go with this little camera.

Thanks for the detailed and helpful explanations and translations, Rob. I've been wondering as to the exact (or approximate) meanings of the written characters, so your wife's explanations are timely and appreciated!

This little camera is so small, it reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles' song: "...must be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see!" |

Taken with my close-focusing and relatively new (to me) Vivitar 24mm lens. I'm a fan of close-focusing (aka semi-'macro') lenses, which let me get much closer so some subjects. This little guy looks like he's going fast even when he's standing still ;) |

This Tyrannosaurus biker has his machine all revved-up...but no place to go.
I spied him in a touristy boutique in Ashland, Oregon, and being a fan of all anthropomorphic dinosaurs, couldn't resist snapping a quick dino-portrait.

In Mexico, Día de Muertos - aka Día de los Muertos - aka the Day of the Dead - is celebrated for two days, starting on November 1, finishing on November 2 - so I'm posting this at close to midnight on November 1, the ideal time to honor the Muertos - those who have passed on, and are no longer with us - but who, according to Mexican superstitions, can return to visit their living relatives and families on this day. My little Calavera couple are recently married Newlyweds but since they are 'muertos', I think that makes them Newlydeads :) |

These Calavera (skeleton) sweethearts are patiently awaiting the arrival of Día de los Muertos (aka Day of the Dead), on November 1 & 2, when, according to tradition, the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead open up, allowing those who have departed to return to visit family or friends, or revisit old haunts. |

I realize this thread is focused on the multiple variants of Vivitar 28mm lenses (which appear in the 'Bestiary') - but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to the possible origin of a cousin of the Vivitar 28's - a manual focus Vivitar 24mm. I just bought one - a 24mm f/2.8 with close-focusing (semi macro) capabilities. It's an A-series lens (with A on the aperture ring, and the auto-aperture feature works perfectly when shooting in Av mode). Mounted on my K-S1, it looks like this--
It looks a LOT like the 28mm Vivitar lens that I used to own - which was apparently an A21 made by Cosina. This is a picture of my old 28mm A21--
There are two 24mm Vivitar lenses listed in the User Reviews section here. The first is identified as having been made by Cosina; the 2nd, supposedly, may (or may not) have been made by Komine. Given the similar appearance of my new 24mm to my previous 28mm, I'd guess Cosina... but I'm curious what more informed Pentaxians might think?
(I'm attaching three close-up photos of the 24mm, one from in front, one looking down from on top, the third from the bottom where the serial number is visible.)

I found a slightly wider angle Vivitar lens - 24mm - to replace the 28mm which wasn't quite w-i-d-e enough for me. This one isn't quite pancake-sized but it's not tooo large - and it also does Macro/close focusing as well, a bonus. I've actually gotten some decent close-up shots with it - as well as normal ones.
This is what it looks like mounted on my K-S1--
And here are two photos taken with it. The first, relatively close to my subject (an automotive dinosaur, aka an ancient no-longer-operation truck)--
And then using the lens' close-focusing capabilities, a macro shot of a praying mantis that was visiting my garden--
The next time I get a winning lottery ticket, I'm still dreaming about acquiring the one rather w-i-d-e lens I've always had a yen for, a DA15, but until then, I think this relatively smallish Vivitar may be just what my K-S1 needs :)

2005 was the year this camera came out. It had a 7.1 megapixel CCD sensor, and cost $699 new.
The times, as Bob Dylan once said, are a' changin'... but it still knows how to take decent photographs.

This visiting praying mantis preferred to stay hidden underneath - or behind - or among the large leaves of the cucumber plant. My guess is they provided more hiding places - and places from which to ambush unsuspecting prey. |

Why is it that all the cameras I truly love - and use frequently - have been discontinued?
Like my Fujifilm X30... it takes good pictures.
And it looks good, too.

This Halloween skeleton dog sits quietly in the For Sale bin at a supermarket in Oregon; but after midnight, I think he comes down from his perch and prowls the aisles... and howls at the moon! |

I stumbled across an interesting and inexpensive old Spiratone lens for sale on fleabay.
The seller seems photographically ignorant but believed the lens belonged to someone who used it with a Pentax K-series camera.
He did provide a photo of the lens mount.
I'm wondering - and hoping - that someone more knowledgeable than myself can tell me if indeed this looks like a K-mount? (or, if not, what kind of mount it might be?)
