Your Pet A Day.... (post up!)

Inspired by a thread I post in on another board covering just dogs, I thought I'd start-up a similar one having a wider target audience, pertaining to any kind of pet.

Please post-up, but just only one shot of each of your [edit: or friend's, family's, etc.] pets a day max; i.e. if you have more than one as I do, just one pic of each a day.

I'll start it off. I've shared these before here in different places, but I like'm a lot so they're worth repeating to me:

I don't have a lot of shots of her, my wife's favorite Mimi, as she's very scared of the camera (totally a gregarious tom-boy otherwise), as she associates the camera with flash, and associates flash with lightning and thunder. So shot with available light of course...

Zoe is such a looker... She's my usual model of choice. Gotta lot of shots of her, from even well before having the K10D.

Nala, hunting down any moving leaves (blowing in the wind)... quickly becoming my model of choice now since she joined the family a year and a half ago with her "look @ me" personality.

Hope you make this a regular place to come visit to post-up and/or look at our favorite companions. Perhaps picking up some nice composition techniques from others @ the same time.

Wondering, is any of that retroactive? I've added a couple of serial numbers and reviews in the past, but it doesn't seem like my 'rep value' changed since you enacted this feature at least, so I'm guessing the answer is 'no' for serials or reviews, but I may be wrong. If no indeed, have you considered doing so? I imagine an advanced SQL statement might be all that's needed.

unfortunately FOTKl removes Exif. You can visit the link in the 1st post of the primary thread and see Exif from there. I shot most at f6.3 or f8

These went over well in the other thread.

Hi everyone!

Been away from this hobby and site for many years. Completely thrilled to see this thread I started is still rolling.

I lost the first two girls in the first post of this thread. The third is aging, and taking two different medications to control seizures. But I have a new one too.

I know this post is mainly worthless without pictures. :) I'll have to address that soon.

Post on! :D

But you don't hate purple splotchiness? I do. 'Grainy' noise is one thing, but large purple splotches in my photographs kinda makes me mad. :(

20 image pano. Taken with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 Macro HSM II @ 93mm, f/8, ISO80, shutter for the top 10 was at 1.6sec, bottom 10 was @ 2.5sec.

Click here for the larger 2664 x 934 image in my gallery that you can pan around (yet which is only 10% of the original!).

Vivitar 7mm f/3.5 (or one of the many equiv private label'ed versions of the Samyang lens) and Voigtlander 125mm f/2.5. I have a love affair going with both of them; moreso than w/any of my lenses I love and almost typed here.

Cityscape Finally, successful Lightning!

Alternate Title ... "When 12mm is not enough! :("

I was thinking about the Pentax 10-17mm, but I think I've settled on the Samyang made 8mm, maybe as the Vivitar 7mm branding.

This is only my 2nd time actually trying to catch lightning; this time it's more successful as I could open the window since the rain wasn't a 'squall' like the last time. But moreso thanx to the K-5's built-in intervalometer, this becomes very achievable.

I think I may make a habit of this...

(I will eventually use Photosphop to remove the brick in the upper right)

edit: I realized I didn't share a link to where I hosted, should you have a hi-rez display and may like to see them in larger form:

Just shared this photo in the Samyang Lens Club thread. I picked-up a Vivitar 7mm f/3.5 the other day. It's been a very happy honeymoon these past few days; it hasn't left my K-5 yet. Much, oh so very much more to come....

My goodness. Like last month another voting thread w/over 200 submissions. Phenomenal. But I can't help but feel sorry for the great photos that are numbered near the end.

When we get to this number of photos I wonder if a randomized "do you prefer A or B " page a the voting mechanism would be better (or other?) ... assuming the voters take the time to do all 100'ish comparisons. (but even if not, w/the randomization of photo comparisons all photos should hopefully end-up w/the same number of eyes hitting them) After a few dozen voters let alone if you have hundreds of voters, you're assured all photos are equally weighted in attention.

Why a "long lens" and K-01 may not mix.

To this, I can't agree.

With a camera the cost of the K-01, and with the sensor and other specs of the caliber of the K-01, I expect it to be a "good at anything" camera. I was illustrating what I identified as a major limitation in its capability due to its "packaging" given what I look for in a camera at the cost and seeming capability of the K-01.

I say this because I WANT to buy this camera. With the new processing engine it's touted to be able have better 'quality' than the K-5. I WANT to have something that's killer and fits into my pocket. And I WANT it to serve my every purpose. I'm seeing a place it can't. I imagine I'm not taking a hike with it and my long lenses when I do so sans monopod (I never hike w/a tripod).

Wait, are you saying the person who posted "fake ones ... " above, frank, is the originator / poster of those pix?

So was his post sarcastic and they're not fake, or are they indeed fake?

Much thanx to Adam for liking my treatment of his photo the most. I therefore have the honor of hosting the next PP challenge.

I happened upon this image of mine taken a bit over a year back that is intriguing. It is of the back walls of a restaurant where a bunch of us ate, drank, and hand much merriment during our annual holiday dinner, taken @ the end of the night when it had emptied out. I always thought there is something interesting/special hiding in there; it's a bit like the show Seinfeld, self-described by them as "a show about nothing", but given its success proved how machinations of nothing can really be something. But I never did anything with it other than boost some levels then exported it from Lightroom. Hope you find it intriguing too and are inspired to make something more of it.

If you wish, to maximize quality instead of saving the image below and processing that, the original unaltered full rez JPG and DNG RAW can be processed by clicking the links and downloading the files locally. If you choose to do that, please resize to 1000px wide before uploading it here as per the rule covering a file's max resolution entered in challenges.

The duration of this challenge will be the standard week. You may upload photos for entry until about midnight PST Monday, Jan 16; a.k.a., until about 3am EST Tuesday, Jan 17; alter for your timezone accordingly. All photos entered before that date & time give or take a little will be considered.

Good luck all and enjoy,

-steve

I fib. Outta all my dogs Nala is the only one for which "cat" is not a trigger word. ;)

(while it's true the Sigma 70-200/2.8 EX DG Macro HSM isn't usually very good wide open, I got lucky with this one. Pretty great bokeh of the lens at least.)

You're getting really good w/those legacy lenses wolfiegirl! ... killer shot there Marc. ... paul, I'm so relieved I don't have any dogs prone to " full howl mode" for more than a few moments.

Today's contribution. .... One of the few keepers w/the A-50mm f/1.4 the other day. Not having the best of luck w/the K-5 and my manual focus lenses, as opposed to when I'd use my K10D, so shots like these are fewer and further in-between than I'd like.... Even here I got the snout and not the eye.

We'll I'll go out on a limb and say you must not be a millionaire. And you're not doing yourself any favors holding to that wisdom.
I work for a company -- and survivor that started and fought through the internet era -- that went from being deeply un-profitable, to making un-leveraged buy-outs of other un-profitable entities until it became flat to slightly profitable. The execs then had the wherewithal [& balls] of using the incredibly cheap money available our there to making leveraged buyouts of first purchasing an un-profitable entity 3x our size, then a few years later another leveraged-buyout of an un-profitable entity that was our 2nd largest competitor now our new 4x combined size; making for an entity 8x larger than the original. ... Our company increased our revenues 15x within a few short years while through benefits from synergies and removing redundancies greatly expanding margins, by [to recap] combining several un-profitable entities. We're on-track to be paying off the few hundred million dollars of extremely cheap debt within just a few years and becoming a monster cash cow (but I don't doubt there will be another leveraged purchase before that time).

So, you just laugh at the thought of it. Me, I've backed management and it's payed off several-fold.
