Thank you, Adam.
I downloaded exiftool. There is a lot of information there. Maybe that's why they call it metadata.

I have a blued image. And, I wanted to confirm that an inappropriate white balance was the cause.
I was surprised that it was not recorded in the EXIF.
Maybe, I don't know how to read the tag.
Why isn't it there?

I was surprised to see amongst discussion of Photo Editing software, especially when Google's Picasso appeared and photoscape, that there was no mention of my hands-down favorite, Gimp.
Its freely distributed image manipulation software, that for my money is every bit as capable as photoshop, without the expense and proprietary inevitability of paid updates. Albeit, 8 bit rather than 16 bit capability.
I guess that makes a difference, but I don't know who can see it.

More K-7 problems...

Thank you all. I feel I have experienced the delayed shutter response, particularly in low light conditions, from the start. Although, I am embarrassed to say, the most recent frustration may have been the result of the self-timer remaining on from some days ago. After setting the drive mode to single frame (default), it seemed to trip instantly, even indoors under artificial light.

How embarrassing is that? I think I'll go back to the manual and see if I can learn how to read the LCD. I'm sure that it was telling me the timer was on. I just didn't know what I was seeing.

And thank you for all the suggestions, I'm sure I'll find many of them useful as I embark on this tremendously rewarding journey of learning to feel comfortable with my Pentax. Thanks guys.

More K-7 problems...

The biggest of which is that its a lot more camera than I am photographer.

I had such a wonderful experience with my old film SLR and a few lenses. So, I thought with my layman's understanding of the big three: film speed, exposure time, and aperture, I could probable make the transition to digital. Eliminate the expense and trouble of scanning prints for post-processing.

Two months into owning my K-7, I am still not sure how to take an action photo.
I have read the manual to the point of brain death.
I'm not criticizing. Don't get me wrong, I 'm simply saying, the subject matter is not conducive to extended reading with comprehension. Knowing that I would need a lot of help in understanding how to use this camera, I also, picked up the Magic Lantern guide to the K-7.

In typing this post, I wonder if maybe the A-L button is part of the answer to my question?
How do I get the shutter to trip when I press the release, rather than 2 or 4 or 6 or 8 seconds later?

Is that possible? I wanted to transfer a photo from one card to another and the camera wouldn't read it.
If it can be done, how do you do it?

K-7 monitor always on?

Forgive me. This is a dumb question, I know.
I just got my K7 yesterday, and, I am humbled by its capabilities. And, intimidated by the challenge of learning enough to use some of that.
But, I haven't even figured out how to turn of the monitor screen.

I first assigned myself to catching bumblebees in my wife's flower garden.
Not necessarily good images, but its a start up the learning curve.

Anyway, I'm puzzled that I can't figure how to shut off the monitor when I'm using the viewfinder. Toggled out of Live View, its still a lighted display of information, much of it a repeat of information available in the viewfinder or the LCD readout on the camera's shoulder. As such, it seems to me a power draining feature, and I'm ashamed that I'm too dumb to figure out how to turn that unnecessary lighted display off.

Could somebody help me out here? Or, set my thinking straight.

Kx or K-7, for a lifetime?

I have enjoyed, immensely, the advent of the digital age in Photography, the economy and utility of printing only those images with which you are satisfied, often with corrections, crops, or other manipulations post exposure, (I use the Gimp).

Twenty years ago, I owned a Ricoh SLR, standard lens, long lens and a macro. Today, they gathers dust in the closet.
As much fun as they were, the expense and hassle of film limitation has made them irrelevant. The 10mp point and shoot, which I acquired, is adequate, I guess.
But, the fun and excitement of photography is gone.

Initially, I though about a Kx body with my K mount lenses. I was advised that the 18-55 mm lens would be a mistake to sacrifice for the few dollars I might save. That it would allow me to learn the camera in all its potential.

Last week, as I was beginning to become aware of a few specs and their significance, I discovered that the K-7 with the 18-55 could be had for just a few dollars more than the Kx with 18-55 and 55-300mm lens. The difference, for me, being that both the K-7 body and lens were weather resistant and the lens mount was metal, where-as, with the Kx, neither was true.

Since then, of course, the sale has expired. But the fact of my limited means (age and disability) will always remain. If I can stretch myself to make this purchase, it will be the last camera that I buy.

I can more easily imagine myself adding a lens than upgrading a camera body.

Even at a higher price, limitations of the Kx concern me as I contemplate a camera that I hope I will use for years.

Or, am I being silly?

Any advise?

Newbie Qustion-what difference a "P"

Does it mean the obvious? Is one of these lenses built with of metal and the other plastic?

What's the difference?
SMCP-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Lens
and
SMC - DA 18-55MM F3.5-5.6 AL WR Lens
and if BH lists it this way: "DA 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AL WR " which one is that?

While I'm at it, what's WR?

I'm a disabled older man (read limited income), who, twenty years ago, enjoyed amateur photography. It got to be a whole lot of fun after I acquired a Ricoh K-5 Super SLR. And added a little glass: this Sears 60-300mm zoom , and this 28 mm 2.8 Kalimar. Neither of which are outstanding lenses, but together with the Ricoh through-the-lens experience they afforded adequate versatility and an image capture ability light years removed from point and shoot.

As I became aware of digital imaging, and prices got cheaper, my SLR and lenses found themselves in the closet. And I found myself using a little 10 MP Casio. But, I never forgot the magic allure, the what you see-is what you get, versatility of SLR photography and multiple lenses. I longed for the day I could marry the two experiences, digital imaging & the glass that I already own.

I am on the verge of taking the plunge. Yet, I pause to consider the multitude of technology and features I would be sacrificing to use the K mount lenses on this camera. Maybe, I should just bite the bullet and buy this camera with the 18-55 and 55-300 kit lenses.

My disability is basically a fine motor one, so the aforementioned (links) Ricoh-Penax pin fix, is daunting, but probably not impossible. Though, I might seek some sure-handed help.

I apologize for taking so much of your time and space with this long-winded description of my conundrum.

But, if anyone reading this post could offer a perspective, insight, or suggestion, it would be much appreciated
