Sadly, it looks like Tennessee is getting lots of the former so none of the latter. And it's a perfect evening eclipse too. :(

Place the subject farther from the background. As you only use as much DOF as you need with macro shots, the details in the background should be blurred into a more even consistency. In other words, ise the bokeh!

Any samples of the kind of shots you were able to do with this set-up?

Duplo, thanks for posting the K10D pics. I don't have to give up IR! A couple of questions though. Do you have noise reduction on? How do you focus with the A lenses?

Yep, it's a little jewel. Personally, I wouldn't want to be seen pointing a TV remote at my camera in a group photo. Pentax did a great job integrating the remote into the battery grip.
And to the person worried about losing the tiny remote in his pocket, put it back in the grip, not your pocket when you aren't using it.

Yes. Well, more like subtraction. Here is a good explanation of doing it manually with PS.

You want a K10D and will be disappointed if you get anything else. Face the truth. I did and have never regretted it.
As to the complexity, there are a lot of us who started out with the K1000 years ago with no problem. There were no automatic features and we coped. Chances are that even if you got a K100D, you won't be using the kiddie modes for long. So...why waste money on what you will wind up not using? You have your Canon for point-and-shoot snapshots.
Get the K10D. You will not regret it either.

Does it have the screws accessible so you can collimate it if it gets bumped? That's probably why people complain about mirror lens quality. They can get knocked out of line relatively easily.

I just read a dynamite book on it a couple of nights ago. It is Idea To Image In Photoshop CS2. It's by Rick Sammon and while somewhat simple, it does an excellent job of explaining things. (It's the first time I've finally got a grip on using layers.) I'll also echo that any of the books by Scott Kelby are good.
If you really want to dive into the deep end of what CS2 does, get The Photoshop CS2 Bible, Professional Edition by Deke McClelland, Laurie Ulrich Fuller and Laurie Ulrich Fuller. Very detailed! If you want to read about stuff you never even thought of, this is the book.

As a former Olympus shooter who got screwed by them dropping the OM mount when they went digital, I was in the same boat as you when it came time for me to move to a digital SLR. I originally started out with Pentax gear in my teens, so I was looking at the K100D or K10D. After my dealings with Olympus, I went with the K10D to ensure the most compatibility with any future lenses. The K100D didn't have the contacts for the promised Supersonic lenses. Now with the Super model, that is changed. Not that my K10D is bad, but I would probably get the K100D Super now and use the money saved for a better main lens, like the Sigma 17-70 or similar.
(I do keep hoping that Olympus will either make a stripped DSLR that uses the OM mount themselves or license it to another maker. There is a lot of great Zuiko glass out there that should have been brought into the digital world. I believe there is a market for a digital OM-1 if someone would just make one. I know I'd buy one. I don't mind manual focus.)

Believe what this says! Do NOT use that old flash on a digital (or newer film) SLR. You will destroy the flash circuit. You can use that Wein adapter, but honestly, you can get a new flash that does what your old one does for about the same price.
Here's a chart of older flashes and their trigger voltages: Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages
Many people have ruined their brand new cameras by not paying attention to this. Don't you be another one.
(I think this was why we had so many Canon and Nikon cross-over shooters bad-mouth the K10D in the beginning. They liked the camera and had started out with Pentax gear years ago, but when they dug their old flash out of the attic and put it on their new camera... Well, their next posts were about the shoddy Pentax quality.)

Use the digital preview to help you frame the shot. You might not be able to see through the viewfinder, but you should be able to see the image on the rear LCD.
