Can someone recommend a good aftermarket eyecup for my brand new k-30?
Are the eyecups for K-r or K-5 compatible with K-30?

The one that came with camera doesn't fit well to my face and I've got stray light obscuring my view in the viewfinder.

While I am waiting for my new k-30 to arrive, I wanted to get a screen protector for it. (My k-x got scratched 2nd week of usage)

Ebay only shows very basic film protection , but I wanted to get a more robust glass one.

Does anyone know, if K-5 glass screen protector can be used on k-30. Will it fill well?

Thanks.

What I would REALLY like to see from Pentax...

Wrong.

The price of the sensor is mostly relative to it's size i.e. how many sensors can come out of a single silicon wafer without bad pixels.
Since the area of DA-circle compatible square sensor is roughly the same as APS-C sensor, the production price would be the same.

WR - is something that makes Pentax stand out. So if they want to be really different, they can make their whole range of lenses and cameras include cheaper consumer grade WR.
This will be an added value for all those looking for a new DSLR. Also it is great for marketing: when you are in the middle of the rainy season on your vacation and take out your camera without hesitation, this will certainly get attention.

Reading this forum one makes a very false assumption, that the only thing Pentax users want is a FF camera.

But I am saying to you, people, most of us including me couldn't care less. Most of the DSLR users these days are occasional amateur photographers with a very, very limited budgets. And remember, US with their comparatively cheap prices is not the only market. European and other markets sell photo gear for much higher prices than in US. So the FF camera for most people in the world would end up a very big expense, that our wives (and husbands) would not let us to spend :) Throw into the shopping cart a bunch of lenses for FF and we are talking about a fortune...

So, I think that current Pentax stand of having APS-C for normal people and 645D for professionals - is a good one. If you are a professional with thousands of dollars to spend, push Pentax to make more varieties of 645D and lenses for it and leave APS consumer market to us, poor people.

What I would really like to see from Pentax is the following:

1. More consumer grade quality lenses: 35/f2.4 and 50/f1.8 are the good start, but seriously it is far from enough. And make them all WR, for god sake. So that people, who are planning to buy K-30 would know that their money is well spent. I don't understand why all new consumer lenses from Pentax are not WR including latest 18-270mm.
Just take a look for Canon lenses on B&H: 50mm/f1.8 EF II - 104$ , 85mm/f1.8 USM - 369$. Those are the kind of prices that I'd like to see for the Pentax gear. And don't give me that crap about their inferior image quality. I am 100% certain that their quality is good enough for most of us, who don't want to spend more than a grand for DA* lens with a faulty SDM motor...
Those cheaper lenses are one of the main reasons why everyone and his girlfriend buys Canikon gear nowadays: you can get a prime lens to upgrade your kit for 100 dollars

2. Better marketing and distribution policies. In my country, for example, Pentax is officially distributed by the same company, that distributes Canon cameras:eek:. So you can imagine, how much interest they have in promoting and selling Pentax gear. K-30 body only costs here 1200$US, which is outrageous, and you only can buy it by special order. The same goes for lenses as well. So I am limited for international online shopping and ebaying

3. And if talking about sensor sizes, there are much better alternatives for FF IMHO
I'd like to see a square sensor, that can accommodate DA-sized circle. The production costs for such sensor would not be that much different from APS-C ones and body integration would be easy as well, but advantages would be huge: No need for orientation changes, maximizing use of optical capabilities of the lenses etc.

just my 5 cents

Good news for the manual lens lovers: New Helios 40-2

Russian lens manufacturer is restarting the production of the famous Helios 40-2 portrait lenses 85mm/f1.5
The soviet version of this lens got it's price quite inflated on ebay during the last few years,
but now there will be a chance to get it new for about 250$ (hopefully with much better quality control than soviets had).
It is unclear yet, which mounts will be supported. I'd like to see K-mount version...

Here is the a google translate link for the original blog post in russian:

Reivax, I, understand you very well. I live in a country, where Pentax compatible gear is non-existent. The is no after-market, no proper service centre, and an official importer is, also, official importer of Canon(sic!) So the only reliable source is marketplace here and e-bay.
Metz 58 cost more then 500$ here, and it is way more than I can afford for the enough expensive hobby of mine. 200 bucks for Tumax I can afford (somehow) :-) An getting myself 68$ YN-560. Actually, I want Tumax one no as much for wireless support, but cause it has an upgrade socket. So I can be sure, that my next body would not need another p-ttl flash.

I would really like to buy this one (Tumax DPT586AFZ / DPT588AFZ) and try some p-ttl wireless for a moderate price.
However, albeit it was announced almost a year ago, I still can't find any e-bay or other seller, that has it, beside some strange store in Singapore
TTL Flash

Perhaps any of you has had better luck and can point me at some online vendor?

Thanks

After my kit lens "accidentally" drowned, I've decided to replace it with something else.
So went to Ebay and won 16-45 f/4 ED-AL from some guy on e-bay in original box for 212$US.

I know from reviews, that is a good lens, so do you, guys, think it is a good price I paid for it used?

Yes, frisbee seems appropriate. :-)

But I have to mention, that the lens is surprisingly easy to handle, considering 1.6kg of metal and glass weight.

Just recently I won e-bay auction for classic zebra Zeiss Sonnar 180mm f2.8 in mint condition for only 170$ (good price, heh. Seller was not very happy, I suppose)

The only problem is that it didn't come with a lens cap. As far as I understand, it supposed to be a whopping 119mm cap that goes on top of that huge hood that is supplied. I looked everywhere, but couldn't find such cups anywhere including Chinese sites. I only found one e-bay guy, that sells the cup and the hood for this lens for more than a 100$ US, which is outrageous.

Can anyone point me to online shop that can carry lens caps of this size?

Thanks.

Hi there, experienced Pentax folks.

Do you think there is a chance that some of the K-r new features will make it back to K-x firmware?
Or the 1.01 firmware will be the end of it? :(

Hoya/Pentax (non US) customer relations contacts

Hi everyone.
Sorry, if this post went into the the wrong forum, but I couldn't find better suited one.

I have a problem with a local official distributor for Pentax cameras (Israel). I've recently purchased a new K-x and, unfortunately, it was having a manufacturing defect (LCD stopped working only after 3 days).
A distributor took back the camera 2 weeks ago, confirmed the defect, and is now feeding me all kinds of a stories about a lack of a new cameras, and the next shipment coming may be in a month. They offered me a money back, which is unacceptable, since I have a bunch of older pentax lenses and got a pretty good deal on the camera.

So now I am trying to contact Hoya's customer relations department to put pressure on the distributor, but it proved to be a rather hard endeavour.

So if any of you know how to get in contact with Hoya headquarters or, may be Pentax Europe representatives, I would be very grateful.
