That could be it, something in the lens is not working properly. I've spent already almost 300$ for the repairs that i was charged by Eric, at this point i don't know if it's worth sending it in to somebody else..

I have tried it with another K-5 from another "Pentaxian" , now i purchased a brand new K-5 to see if it was perhaps do to the camera body, but the same problem is persistant, the lens just hunts, goes from infinity to infinity does not want to lock on any subject whatsoever. Don't know what else to do, i am convinced that the lens was not repaired correctly but then why does it AF but refuses to LOCK ON, that is strange perhaps something is not in contact, any ideas?.. Thanks for the replies!

Hello, i have a problem with my Pentax 16-50mm lens. The lens won't lock when in AFS, it just does NOT lock on target in autofocus at all. The lens was tried in two different cameras and still the same problem. I had dropped the lens back in the summer and just now got it repaired by Eric Hendrickson, which was highly recomended in the Forums here. So i got my lens tried it, did not want to lock on target in A/F then sent it back, Eric told me that he rechecked it, and tried it, and it focused and locked on target with his camera. Now i bought a brand new K-5 just to see what is wrong, and honesly the lens wont LOCK on target. I don't know what else to do, do you guys have any recommendations to get it to lock on target in AFS? Help would be highly appreciated! Thanks alot!

Thanks for all the hard work and help! Okay i get all that, but i dont have a lens attached to the camera, so i cannot do any of this, i am wondering does SR turn off automaticly when no lens is attached to the body? My SR worked fine with Lens before, but since i dont have a lens, i turned the camera on and just noticed that SR function in menu is completely unacessable it looks just as the "Imput focal lenght" you cannot scroll on to the Shake Reduction, at all, one user reported that the camera SR will not work when there is no lense attached, while another said, that it should work without lense, i am confused. I am not sure if my SR is not functoning. HAVE YOU TRIED SEEING IF SR IS ON, "WITHOUT" THE LENS ATTACHED TO THE BODY? I cant tell if SR is suppose to behave like that, since i dont have any lens with me currently, ( one is heading in for repairs) I get you tried it with the LENS, but without lens, do you mind posting a shot of the same menu but without the lens attached ?

Hello, i have tried it in all modes, same result. I dont get how do you enter lens focal length without any lens attached? Record menu pg4 where is that located? Everytime i go to the menu to attempt to access Shake Reduction options enable/disable, it looks locked and cannot be scrolled down to be chosen.

That is strange with my K-7, the SR icon is completely disabled, i cannot access it, enable it at all, i have tried, green mode, AV, User, all modes, and it seems locked, just the icon and the red line over it appear, when i use the VF, i cannot see the icon light up. Do you mind without the lens, accessing the camera menu, and going to the menu where it has the option to enable.disable SR, is yours completely blocked and cant be accessed? In my camera SR function cannot be enabled at all.

Another question, Does SR (Shake Reduction) work when there is no LENS attached to the camera? On my camera i cant enable SR, is this because no Lens is attached to the camera ? Or SR should be able to enable and function even without lens attached to the camera? Thank you.

Oh okay, yeah he gave me an estimate of 150-200$ Do you mind telling me the procedure of sending. Do you just mail in the lens to him, and then he examines it, and then sends you the price, and if you accept it, you pay right away or after the repair, and then he sends it back?

It was loose, when i opened it up, due to the SDM motor , this lens seems very complicated as compared to 16-45mm (owned one), the 16-50mm seems more complicated due to the mechanics and electronics of it, i thought it was something simple, perhaps it is, i am not too familiar working with lenses, so i dont want to further touch it and create larger mess.

Hello i wanted to know if anyone knew where i could get my camera lens repaired ? Its a Pentax smc da* 16-50mm f/2.8 what happen was, the camera fell off my desk, and it could not zoom out wide open to 16mm. It just gets stuck at 24mm or sometime 30mm, it will zoom it to 50mm but that's it. I heared something lose inside the camera, so i unscrewed the top of the lens, and looked inside, to see if anything was lose, i am not too sure about this so i left the lens partially dissembled, as its difficult now to put everything back and close up the lens. What do you guys think? How much would it cost estimating, to fix this problem , if anyone has had any prior experience with dropping their lens, and having the zoom ring stuck? Thank you.

Pentax K-7 quick question

Hello i have a question if you guys dont mind addressing. I have a Pentax K-7 and when i turn it on, it is not attached to any lens, on the lcd screen at the top it says MF, should it be desplaying this since the camera is not on MF its on AF.S. Shouldn't it be saying AF.S? Even when i change it to C. mode it still displays M.F. mode on the top right corner on the lcd, is this due to the fact that a lens in not attached to it so it just displayes MF mode or is something wrong with it? Can someone please confirm to me if this is what the camera does when it is not attached to the lens, it just stays in MF, even if one tries to change to AF.S or C. Thank you for your time and help.

Brooke, i appreciate the help. I had a K-7 for over a year, tried to use it and learn about it as much as possible, although i'd say i've learnt and improve on my photographic abilities. I feel that you can only do so much, which from there on it's up to the K-7. I am not saying Pentax is bad or anything, but honestly if a, 3, 4 year older, nikon, or canon can outperform a top Pentax camera in terms of A/F, with D* lens, then i don't know what to say..

Thank you for your response. I honestly don't want to leave Pentax. Body, button layout, weather sealing, magnesium body are one of the reasons i bought it. I just don't like the A/F performaced compared to say, Nikon, i tried out a friends nikon for a while, and all the things i was looking to be improved in my k-7 seem to be found in the nikon (d90). I don't know, maybe i will stick with Pentax, or wait for new body to purchase. Thank you again for all of your responses, it is much appreciated!

Hello everyone, i just had few questions regarding the K-5. I do not own it yet and have not tried it out.. My questions are, i am coming from K-7, how better, or improved is the A/F compared to K-7, second, how better is it in low light, and the accuracy in lower light as compared to the K-5. These are series questions, i want to be sure that when i am not in natural light, at home, or in a building, that the A/F will not hunt so much as it did with my K-7. Please let me know, i would honestly appreciate it, these are my deciding factors to buy or not to buy the K-5. Is there really a difference with A/F and ISO performance worth getting the K-5. Please let me know. Thank you! -A.M.
