you should check out microsoft one note mobile. you can take a picture of a document and then it becomes searchable.
so now what happens is when you hand some one your business card, they can shoot it and return it. later they will search 'photographer' in their one note database to find a tog...

I say that the best way a person can grow and learn anything is good critique like this.8)
Most of the issues you cover are issues that I'm aware of and want to take care of when I have the time. Unfortunately, it will probably stay the way it is for a while.. 8(
as for the 'we' thing, there are about four of us who really get into 'the business', me being the owner along with an associate who i'm trying to train into a lead, an assistant i want to train into an associate and an IT guy. I'll have a secretary type as well...when i get more business volume. everyone is an artist, and everyone works on self contract basis....
oh yeah, and the picture: i don't really like it either. i'm glad you brought it up! my girlfriend, my IT guy and a couple of other people picked that picture and I went with the consensus. I might have to get on their case about in now....

I've been using the term digiroid when I bring a digital slr on a film shoot. Today, mid-beer, I was wondering if there was a polaroid back available for the 645 system.
If you have scans of polaroids or pictures of a polaroid back that would be awesome.
Even if you just want to say 'I love my polaroid back because...' that's cool throw it in...
Can't wait to hear about it

I don't think a polarizer would work very well shooting directly into the sun
the starburst patter from the sun denotes a small f/stop. it was probably shot at a hyperfocal distance with said small f/stop since everything from foreground to farground is in focus.
this might be a blend of exposures but i can't comment on that because i don't like doing it.
if it's not, then he shot within his cameras dynamic range to be able to pull the shadows up to reveal the terrain through the sunset...

the exposure manager is new, but that's how i do it.
the synergy in my business right now is mainly between my it guy and myself. we're brainstorming some ideas and getting things rolling pretty well....
i would have a problem with becoming part of a co-op because i want a strong brand image that says...this guy really has an individual and unique style.

i think we are on the same track, arbib
if im the lead shooter, then 1500 net is fine. but if im not the lead shooter, then i can still be working on other things while mjb as a business continues to bring in profit. so if i have 800 net profit on a day that i spent marketing...i think that's pretty rad.
and to be honest, i don't really lust after luxury. i have a dog and a girlfriend, so for now, i can work with this business model and see what comes of the ideas that will follow (which i jot down in my notebooks) i don't think i will ever find luxury because i want to continue pumping excess funds into the machine, mjb

Aribib you totally rock.
$3500 is going to be the entrance mark of 'high-end' here in st. louis, I believe.
Here is the breakdown:
Cost Charge
Engagement 50 250
Bridal 50 150
Wedding Day (primary, second, graphic D) 1500 1500
Album 60 900
primary gets 700, second gets 300, and im estimating 500 for graphic designer to edit a set and create and ablum.
the total cost is 2200 and the total charge is 2800.
i rounded it off to 3K
see the mistake in there? that only leaves me with 800 net profit. however, i will normally be the lead photog, so add 750 to that
800 +750 = 1550
now if i were to have my associate shooter take one simultaneously with me, that would be my net profit plus his
1550 + 800 = 2350
I'm a bit wary about running things like this, so im going to have a meeting with an cpa sometime soon to get things figured out....

Thanks Allison. I changed the link to go directly to my fanpage.
The clients will not have digital images within that 3K package. Although it definitely is an option if they want to add it. I would like to have a business model that does not rely on print sales, but I do definitely want to have print sales be a boost in my revenue. The images with release will definitely come with a charge, and fall into 'add on' sales along with prints. The package listed in the poll is simply a ton of photo coverage with an album to boot. The prints will go online and be available for purchase through Exposure Manager, an account I do not yet have set up. That will come soon, though.
My research tells me that in St. Louis weddings fall into the range of $20K to $35K, and that brides are spending 10% of that budget on photography. Because my goal is to shoot for the higher end of the market, I'm marketing myself to the upper end and charging appropriately.
FWIW, the album is a FinaoOne 10x10 basic with 15 extra leaves. With print sales that follow and album upgrades that are inevitable along with sales tax, I am a bit afraid that I might shoot up into a too-high price. However, the initial response (five votes) is that I seem to have a good rate going on. I guess I'm going to see at these first couple of bridal shows....
Thanks for posting. 8)

I started a poll on MJB DIGITAL's facebook page regarding my new pricing system. I would GREATLY appreciate it if you/anyone/everyone would vote on it. What I'm trying to determine with this poll is the value percieved by the client (which could be you)
Thanks all

I would never offer that option to a client. But generally if my family wants me to shoot Christmas morning or Labor Day, they just want snaps anyway. I can shoot well enough that they are getting something better than they would have otherwise...
