Misc K-r spotted in the wild (sorta)

(Not really a proper pentax photo, but it is related, I swear!)

Welcome to Japan, the land of all things kitschy and aimed at having us spend ridiculous amounts of money on said kitschy things related to our hobbies.

Yesterday, I was walking along an area here in Kobe where all of the hobby/figure/anime/trading card/comic shops are.

Here, also, there are "Gachagacha" (or "gachapon") machines - an onomatopoeic term for capsule toy machines. (You know, stick in your money, turn the handle and a plastic ball with a toy inside pops out). As I was walking by, the Pentax logo caught my eye. There they were! Mini K-r's!!! I had to have one!

400 yen later, and two tries later, I was the proud owner of a blue and pink mini K-r and the one I really wanted, a white mini K-r to match my white K-x.

There's actually a spot on the bottom of the toy so that you can mount it to your hot shoe (which is how I took the second photo. I dont know why you would really want to do that, though, but hey, to each their own)

Thanks! I'm hoping to go back up there once things are a bit more in bloom. The lavender fields are one of my favorites. A sea of purple <3

Nature Shots from Nunobiki Herb Garden

The weather was gorgeous this past weekend here in Kobe, so I decided to take the cable car up the mountain to Nunobiki Herb Garden (布引ハーブ園) with the intent of taking some photos. I'm still pretty much a novice and I haven't had the chance to go out picture-taking for a while. While things aren't blooming quite like they will be in a month, it was still a nice day to be constantly surrounded by the smells of various herbs. Everytime I brushed up against a bush of rosemary or thyme, the smell followed me around for ages!

I like the slightly closer crop in the second pic a lot. I'm always jealous of people who can get such silky-smooth water shots

(click for flickr page and larger versions)

After a very, very, very long hiatus, I'm back and plan on trying to post more. Made it out with the camera for the first time in ages. Taken in the fragrance exhibit at Nunobiki Herb Gardens here in Kobe.

Comments, criticism and suggestions are always welcomed!

Thanks for the comments, everyone! I appreciate it. Reminds me that I have a ton of stuff I have to finish PP on and maybe get up the courage again to show stuff here. (I'm always overly self-critical. Combined with shy, this makes for hiding)

It's a Kenko Pro1D C-PL . I've gotten some great shots using it!

That lamp drives me insane. I didn't really notice at first until after I had posted this. I've gone back and edited it out in the file I have stored on my computer but never replaced it on Flickr

I used a CP Filter, but I don't recall using any praticular settings. I think I did minimal post-processing as well. Now that I remember, I think I might have added a very very slight vignette in PP

People Sunset on Maiko Beach

It's been a while since I've shared anything! I've been so busy with preparations for the new English teachers coming. This weekend we took a ton of the new people to Maiko Beach here in Kobe and I took the opportunity to run wild with my camera.

I snuck this shot as a few friends watched boat traffic on the Osaka Bay crossing under Awaji Bridge as the sun set. Hardly a work of art, but I loved the way it turned out so figured I might as well share it.

Comments and criticism are always more than welcome!

What was your first camera and why did you get it?

I almost completely forgot about it, but my first camera was technically a hot pink Kodak Micky-matic 110 camera. I got it for Christmas in 1988, so I would have been 7 years old at the time. I remember being so amazed by the flash bars

I think a year or two later, I got a polaroid camera.

I got my white K-x not long after their release here and I don't regret it at all. Yeah, DO you stand out a bit from all of the black cameras (especially when it seems like everyone and their mom in Japan has a Nikon). I actually think it's almost elegant looking!

She stood there in that same position, just looking out the window, for a good 15 or 20 minutes so who knows!

Thanks for the advice!

This young woman stood there, gazing out the windows of Kobe Port Tower's observation deck for the longest time. I couldn't help but wonder what was weighing on her mind.

Comments and criticism are always welcome! <3

(I wish I had changed my settings, but since I was trying to take a quick and stealthy candid shot of a complete stranger, I didn't get the chance)

Man, making me miss home! I loved living in Philly around the 4th. Fireworks all the time. When I lived down in South Philly, we used to go out and sit on our roof to watch the Phillies fireworks.

Thanks for that! It's kind nice to have a vote of confidence when you're just starting out. The bold yellow is what attracted me to them at first!

I'm really glad I got this shot because the next day, some storms came through and knocked most of the flowers off the bushes!

I agree with Adam. The composition, sharpness and smoothness of the water in that first shot is great!
