AFAIK, those settings do not change the RAW data, but they do affect the full-res JPEG preview embedded in the DNG/PEF.

Cool idea.
A good requirement for winning would be some sort of provision requiring the guesser to be consistently accurate in their posts. ie: not throwing darts at the wall until one sticks Depending on your interpertation though, it seems like you might already have this covered.

Could you please explain "Pentax as a risk still ongoing?" Do you mean that Hoya's deal to buy Pentax is still in progress?
edit: the Q1 profit margin on Pentax was 4.1%

The next bodies will probably be announced around September 21st at the Photokina tradeshow. Due to the significant FW upgrade the K-7 just had, some are speculating that the K-7 will stay in the lineup but be complemented by some bodies specced above or below it. That's all wild guessing though.
If you wanted a larger Pentax body you could go for a K20 instead and/or buy a battery grip.

AFAIK all you have to do to revert is follow the standard upgrade procedure with your preferred version.
This has all of the major release versions including 1.03. Handy if anyone wants to revert for testing purposes etc. Thanks flikkser!

The banding on the left wouldn't be VF light, it's just a sensor artifact.

Yeah, this image looks much warmer and (over)saturated than the previous versions. As a side note: the image above is AdobeRGB but your previous ones were in sRGB.
Maybe you were editing the AdobeRGB image with an editor which was handling the image as sRGB. An AdobeRGB image viewed as sRGB would appear 'flat' and so you might have pushed the saturation and hue on the version you just posted to compensate.
What image editor & browser are you using?
PS: I'm using firefox 3.6 with color management (though my display is uncalibrated)

Sorry to hear about your sensor and the repair costs. :(
Just a protip: iPhoto converts RAW's to JPG and does all the editing on that.
So the quality is lower than a real RAW converter (Aperture, LR3, DCU, etc.)

There should be some nice examples at PPG & pixel-peeper.
Once I have my 18-55 WR, I think the DA 40 will be my second lens too. (provided the focal length works for me)

I ordered from Buydig/Beach Camera too and they did the same sleazy trick
I returned the lens itself but they still messed it up the second time.

All the edits are done in jpeg after converting from raw; so quality will be lower than if a real real raw processor was used.
Linux is a different OS, and I doubt the OP wants to compile from source anyway :p

The high ISO on the K-7 is a bit nosier than competitors which is probably what they are discussing. The grain pattern is fine and even with no banding so it's not that bad. I can't really speak for the IQ vs. a K10, but I'm certain there are many here who can tell you about that.
Some of Popular Photography's reviewers probably have a tinge of bias. They did name the K-7 Advanced DSLR of the year (along with the D90) last July though.

I accessed it on my K-7 v1.03. Just use the same instructions as before. The AF adjustment method is the same AFAIK.
Put this in the MODSET.474 to enable the AF adj. menu: Code: [DEBUG_MODE EN]
[SW_DEBUG_MENU EN] Start up with the MODSET.474 file and the card door open; wait a few seconds then turn it off and close the card door. Then start it again and press the menu key.
The test mode menu is right after the wrench menu, but it's not visible until you hit it. Once there: Test Mode > AF Test > FocusCorr
I guess you'll have to dig through the thread for more FocusCorr info since I don't know anymore & lack a lens to really test this with ATM.
PS: While in debug mode you can still take pictures (to test the AF, whatever). But you might have to press the Info button to get to the Info screen since it gets replaced by a black 'DEBUG MODE' screen.
After you're done, replace the earlier text in MODSET.474 with the lines below and start the K-7 with the card door open. Wait, and then turn it off & close the door again.
Start up the K-7 again; it should operate normally. You can delete the modset file if you want to keep your sd card neater, but it's innocuous in its current state Code: [DEBUG_MODE DIS]
[SW_DEBUG_MENU DIS] Unfortunately, Pentax-Hack appears now to be Panasonic-Hack :/
