I loved my 645D. Its image quality exceeds anything I had ever used or am using now (the D800). I had to sell it, though, as I wasn't flexible enough with it (it's incredibly slow in many respects) and: the lack of affordable prime wide-angle lenses or wide-angle zooms made me sell it and invest into a more flexibe Nikon system. For what I do, it's absolutely enough. And I still got my Pentax 67II which I regularly use for b&w and prints.

I am all for sharpness at all apertures so can recommend the late 45, 55, 75, 105 and 100 Macro. They are all exceptional. The zoom 55-100 is a little soft wide open, the 165/2.8, too, I figured.
The bokeh of the 105 and 100 are absolutely beautiful.

Thanks all! Very helpful input. Tuco, have you started your business, yet (building that little development shaker machine) ? :-) I take one!

Hi there,
I have no experience in developing film but like to get into it. I mainly shoot TMAX 100 & 400, sometimes I also use TRI X 400 and Ilford 3200 on rollfilm. I'd like to get more control over the final results so I'd like to know which procedure and chemicals are the best for these films in order to get sharp results with beautiful grain and good depths & contrasts.
What are your experiences?
Thanks!
Alex

well, the thing is that I can either get a range of lenses from 100 to 210mm or I get just one lens, the zoom. It's heavy but shouldn't be more than two prime lenses combined.
I rather prefer prime lenses. In this case, though, it could be worth it to get the zoom instead.

Hey all,
I own a Fuji GX680III and want to buy the only zoom in its lens range, the 100-200mm zoom. Has anyone ever tried it? How's the optical quality?
Thanks
Alex

Bought my 67II and lenses three years ago on eBay (which still is the cheapest place to get this sort of equipment). Never have had a problem. The seller has to be reliable (which you can read thru the lines in his feedback), the body in mint condition and all lenses have to be scratchfree, without dust or fungus. Also bought a flawless Fuji GX680III on eBay.
Get a good tripod. Get good focus screens and some additional accessories and you are all set.

I have a Zörk shift adapter that works well with the 67 45mm. The 45mm has to get modified but still works fine on the 67 after modification. 67 55mm works, too. I have not tried the 67 35mm, yet, as I don't own it.
What I used to have but thought was a bit too playful for my taste: the mentioned Rodenstock 105 APO. Very sharp but very flexible, too.

Thanks all. Since I had to sell it asap, I couldn't wait any longer. I don't think the price will go up again in the near future even if the 645DII pops up. So I have sold it today for the price mentioned. It's a photo equipment dealer nearby, the sale went very quick and smooth. German ebay auctions just go up to 5000 Euros for the body these days. With VAT and ebay fees, all the waiting and all handling after auction end (shipping, insurance etc.) I might have made a tiny bit more but I would have had a lot more trouble. The lenses themselves don't go for much anymore, around 400 Euros for the FA 80-160 and 200 for the FA 75mm.
The cam itself is in nice but used shape. I haven't figured out how many shots I have made with it but I suppose, in 1,5 years, it must have been around 20-30.000, maybe more. I used it for all kinds of situations but it turned out to be too unflexible. I am a bit sad, though, since imho it is a great camera with amazing image quality. But just not what I need for my kinda work. Took me a couple of months to understand this and let go.
I still have my beloved 67II which I will not sell. :)
Thanks again
Alex

Hey people, the price drop for th 645D seems immense since the D800 has popped up. What do you think is a reasonable and realistic price for a used 645D body in nice (but used) shape these days? As some of you know I am selling mine but the offer I have so far is 5100 Euros incl. VAT for the body WITH the FA 80-160 and FA 75mm. I have to take VAT because I have used this camera for work. If I'd sell this on eBay, I'd have to pay a lot of fees.
Is this a good price? Do you think the price drop will continue?
Thanks for your inputs!

This might not help :) but I bought a 67 to NIkon adapter which you can only shoot wide open with. Works great, though. Esp. the 165/2.8 on a Nikon gives the pictures quite a special feel & look. I hardly use it, though.
As it is with these adapters: I forgot the name of the brand. Something from China. And it cost 60 Euros or so.
The ones that let you change the aperture must cost a heck of a lot more, I guess. I haven't found one, yet. There are so many out there, you quickly lose track.

The 55-100 looks MASSIVE on the 645D, eh? :) I used to have it but I thought it was an overkill although it did produce nice results.

you just find them provocative because the carry a different opinion from yours. I have been working with the 645D for 11/2 years. The quality is great, no question about it. But it's not image quality that only matters, there are a couple of other points that are important as well, as I have mentioned in earlier threads.
:) nope. When I say slow it's the overall camera I mean, not just image processing.

you do know how to stir things up, my friend.
I love film. I love the slowliness of it. I hate it in digital. The 645D is unneccessarily slow.

I used it in the studio as well, with nice results. But it is still too damn slow and not flexible enough. That tethered thing sucks, too. It takes them more than two years to get one done? How fast will it be? Can you use it with Bridge, Lightroom?

What I think is really impressive is the extremely high image quality of the 645D. It depends on the lenses but most of the ones I use or used were extremely sharp, too, even the 67 glasses. So, if you are after high image quality and extreme detail, this one's for you. If you want to be a little more flexible inside a studio, if you need to be quicker in your photography and 40MP resolution is not neccessarily what you need but can live with something like between 12 to 24: get a different system. The 645D wasn't made for any kind of situation, to me it is an "outside" camera. You CAN use it "inside", e.g. in the studio, but you won't get warm with it being so very very slow.
So, that's why I sell it and get a D800 :) I don't do landscape so I can live with less detail. I get detail from my 67II and GX680III if I need to.

I'll invest into a D800, a new Mac book, an iPad and some new lenses. The whole shebang. I need to be quicker and more flexible - with the 645D I can't. I'll still use my 67II and my Fuji GX680III for "slow" (mostly b&w) photography, though.
Thanks, Ryan, for the explanation!
