Welcome aboard Rob.

Thanks everyone for your condolences. Muchly appreciated.

I just bought a copy of Robin Morrison's "The South Island of New Zealand - From the Road". Perhaps I can find some inspiration in there. I certainly have been trolling through my image files looking for "that shot".

You could probably dispense with a self locking cable switch by reprogramming the shutter release button in B mode (page 51 in the KP Users Manual. You will find it in the Custom Menu, ( item 7 on a K70 : Bulb (B) Mode Options), set it to Type 2 - it will push to open, push to close. Back in the day, it was designated T setting.

The word is correct. I used to time occultations in another lifetime. I could still do it if I could be bothered.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occultation

The occultation mentioned is not visible in NZ.

I bought one of these a while back. Unfortunately when I put the K-70 on it, I can't get my fingers around the hand grip as there is insufficient clearance between the camera body and the back of the lens.

Just a reminder about tonight. Sky over TK will probably be filled with custard. Oh well.

I use one of these. It is a wireframe viewfinder off a Linhof camera. It fits the hot shoe on my K-70.

I finally got my a into g this morning and touched my K-70. Fortunately the cloud played ball.
This is apparently a fallstreak hole or Punch hole.

CoreLogic featured on FairGo tonite. Same issue, different complainant. Seems they are now contrite and will take steps in future to remove copyrighted images from their property listings.

Cheers. This particular scope should be ideal for planetary and lunar imaging. The previous owner had a T2 camera adapter for it but unfortunately I do not use Sony so it has been surplanted with a PK adapter. The native focal length of the scope is just a shade over 2000mm but it can be extended out to 6000m by using a 3x Barlow lens (tele-extender).
The mount it is on is OK for tracking the moon and planets but pretty limited in tracking for star pics. Fortunately I had previously bought an equatorial mount for another purpose. It looks like the Celestron might sit on the iOptron quite nicely. I'm still sorting out how to put dovetail plates on the scope.

Sorry for the rain. I accept full responsibility as my wife bought me a telescope for my birthday. I suspect it might be good for 7 years of continuous rain. So sorry :D

Hmmmm, seems I can no longer see pics posted in this thread but other threads do display images. Oh well.

Just a reminder there is total eclipse of the moon on the 26th May ie this Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Except for the Sth Island, it will probably rain.

Certainly not the issue with digital cf film. Filters and software have levelled the playing field.
