How to fine tune focus with teleconverter?

How do I fine tune focus of my 60-250 for use with the 1.4 teleconverter (the Pentax 1.4 HD DA)?

My images are soft with the 60-250 and maybe it is the focusing with the teleconverter in place.

Thanks much!

1.4 teleconverter - compatible with Sigma 18-300?

Thanks you all for this good information. I will not give up on the teleconverter for the 60-250 and will learn how to adjust the focus. If I even decide to get the 18-300, I won't have any hopes for the teleconverter. Happy Friday,

Thanks for your comment that it might not do well with the 18-300. If anybody else has experience with this, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

I also have the Pentax 1.4x HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converter AW for K-Mount Lenses, which is supposed to be good. It performs very poorly with my 60-250, not producing sharp images. I recall reading someplace (maybe this forum) that the teleconverter is not compatible with the 60-250, so I am glad you are getting good results.

Thanks again,

Maybe I need some advice and information on compatibility regarding my 1.4 teleconverter. I've been disappointed in the utility of my 1.4 teleconverter. It's terrible on the 60-250, which is almost always on the camera (K-3). Does it produce good images on any zoom? Specifically, how does the teleconverter perform on a Sigma 18-300? (I was thinking about the 18-300 for a better travel lens.)
Thanks for feedback!

Wow, what a rant! He said the same thing over and over!

I really appreciate your feedback on this. I do really like the K5IIs, which I've had for almost 2 years. It is so much sharper than the K7 it blew my socks off. Like you, I also use center-point focus most of the time or manual focus. But it also seems everything I read describes the K3 as being another great leap forward from the K5IIs. My main frustration with the K5IIs is the ISO and noise performance. I don't need to crop like a madman, but I do crop wildlife pictures quite a bit and was thinking the K3 would be better for that, as some replies have already mentioned.

I've also appreciated the comments about the merits of the cropped sensor, which helps me realize I am in no great rush for FF after all.

Thanks,

Thanks friends, all these comments are helpful and make sense. I am sure that for wildlife I will stay with APS-C. I am in no rush for FF, and don't feel limited on landscape photography with the cropped sensor. I do get frustrated with low light performance of the K5 compared to the Nikonista who sometimes takes the same shot with her FF and gets better results. I will let the Pentax FF be around for 6 or 8 months before I buy it and see how its reputation fares. So now the question is wait for the K3 prices to drop more, or bite the bullet now? Thanks again.

I appreciate your feedback on this strategy:

I do mostly nature and wildlife photography. The cropped sensor has some advantages and I have the 60-250, 21, and a few other DA lenses.

- I do think the K3 is a worthwhile upgrade from my K5ii.
- I don't feel the need the new features on the K3ii (e.g. GPS, wifi)
- I was thinking of getting a K3 (~$650)

ALTERNATIVE

- sit tight and wait for the Pentax FF, use it with my DA lenses, eventually get new lenses.
- do not buy another cropped sensor body.
- I would use the FF for macro and wide angle.

Would you wait or get the K3 now?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Help!! My Series 1 105 Macro-- they say it can't be fixed?!?

Thanks for any solutions! Here is what happened:
Lens: Vivitar Series 1 105 macro for Pentax. This is my favorite lens...

* the aperature linkage must have gotten jolted and became dislodged. This is the little black lever sticking out the back of the lens mount.

* I took out a few screws and the linkage came out. I realized I was over my head and packed everything up and sent it to a shop.

* The shop took a quick look and said there must be dozens of bearnings and other parts missing and it can not be repaired. I can guarantee that dozens of bearings and parts did not fall out of the lens. I was very meticulous and wearing magnifying goggles when I took off the lens mount.

* Now, another shop said the iris linkage retaining clip is missing and it is not worth sourcing the parts and fixing the lens.

* I can't find a copy for Pentax anywhere for less than $400.

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks much,

I changed my entry but can't find a way to change the category and information about the photo. I would like to change it from landscape to macro, and change the title of the entry. Thanks,

Thanks, I edited it using advanced and changed the name, but in the contest listing it retains the same thread, "landscape zebra sun". Now my entry is a macro shot of a bullet ant. If possible I'd like to place it in the proper category with the new title. Above all, sorry for the trouble and thanks for any help.

Thanks for the contest! I would like to retract my entry and try with another photo. I can't delete the thread because I replied to it myself and would like to change the title of my entry. Is there a way I can do that? Thanks much,

Macro Bullet Ant

The Bullet Ant gets its name from the powerful sting, described as painful as getting shot. I took this shot in situ (not staged) in Peru in 2010 with a K-10D. The lens was a Vivitar Series One 105 f 2.8 macro, manual focus. Exposure was 1/180, f20, with a pentax flash in wireless mode. The Vivitar Series 1 macro is my favorite lens because it is so amazingly sharp. By the way, no ants or people were injured during this shooting!

I am buying a 21mm f3.2 and the pentax site says it accepts 43 or 49 mm filters. Can anyone with experience with this lens please explain how this lens can use either size, and please comment on which you prefer. Many thanks,

My copy of the 16-50 DA* is GOOD.

I use it all the time; it's a beauty.
Having said that, I'm tired of lugging it, and am in the market for the 21mm f3.2!
