Ummm, most the photogs I know use macs, so why would a company release software intended specifically for photo processing that is just for Windows?

New K-01 mirrorless camera coming

Hey, my K20D with a 40mm pancake fits in my coat pocket, or my photo vest pocket. So we have to define "pocket" when talking about pocketable cameras. Shirt pocket, jeans pocket? It all depends.

New K-01 mirrorless camera coming

I could give a sh@t about the size, as long as it's within normal Pentax dslr sizes. I don't care what kind of view finder it has, as long as it has one, so I can see something in bright sunlight. I do care about the damn noise of a dslr, which in 36 pages no one has mentioned. Mirrorless is the future, slapping mechanical mirrors is on the way out with the dinosaurs. I can't tell you how many times an animal has been alerted to my presence by mirror noise, to the point that I still use my Mamiya 6 rangefinder more than my Pentax dslr. I also care a lot about the dozen or so Pentax prime lenses that I own, and to be able to use them on a mirrorless camera will be great. And all black is not a fashion, it's a necessity for the tool to not reflect any light and bring notice to the camera. I used to put black tape on all the silver parts of my old k1000's and ME supers, so as to not draw attention to the camera from the subject being photographed. And on my current Pentax dslr's I have painted in the white "Pentax" at the top of the prism to black. I also wear all black or camouflage when out photographing, and I wouldn't call camo fashion.
In all truth I have looked at many of the rangefinder hybrid type digital cameras out there from time to time, and have thought about selling all my Pentax and Mamiya equipment and getting the Leica before. And if that Fuji X100 had interchangeable lenses I'd probably already own it.
In summary, my main requirements for a new digital camera would be:
I have to have a big enough sensor for decent depth of field control.
A viewfinder for bright conditions.
QUIET, QUIET, QUIET.
Many great prime lenses available. (already have Pentax issue)
So I'm very much looking forward to seeing this camera, even if I have to put black tape all over it.

Thanks. So are you saying that your Composer lens can't get the same look as the old one? I've been thinking of getting a Composer just so I don't have to have all my fingers of both hands involved in holding the lens and body together.

So wildman, what county would that be? You don't have a location listed, and your profile says United States. Sounds like West Texas, but I suppose it could be many places in the US. But I agree, you've got to work and search to find your special places, to get a view that's a bit different from the herd.

You know I just kind of ignored the most posts wins part of the contest. But as someone who joined years ago, but rarely posts unless I either need information, or have some to give, I think it was a good promotion to get me to check back in to the forum. It's kinda fun just to anticipate when the contest will be over, and I've also found out about a couple new rumors and pieces of news that I didn't know.
I think participation by an individual ebbs and flows; you get involved in different things and develop different habits of where you web time goes to. So this contest, if nothing else, may get a few folks to check in that haven't in a while.

Well, I had an email this morning from the forum about this contest, so I figured I'd check in and look. It's kinda hard to understand. Some folks have already won? But we're not to a million yet, due to deleted posts. And where does one see a post number other than how many personal posts we have? A bit confusing to say the least. All I can figure is this post will get it a little closer, and Adam will tell us when it's finished?

If it's above 800, you can ask to have it hand inspected. They don't like to do it for films below that, and many places have signs that say the carry-on inspection machines are fine for film below 800. But if you really have high ISO film, I'd ask for a hand inspection, and like one other poster said, take it out of the canisters and put it in a clear plastic bag.

I don't know that you could call them selfish. They got up earlier, got there first and were all set up. And really, I figure if there are that many photogs in a place, am I really going to get a unique view of the subject? I'd look for something else around to shoot.

Clicking at the "decisive moment": sniper or machine gun?
Posted By cygnet
Replies: 39

While folks are now commenting about sports, wildlife and other forms of photography where a burst may be more appropriate, your original post infers candid party photos, like at weddings and such. And in those situations I really think the stealth "sniper" method gains you more keepers. Once you get good at reading people, understanding the predictability of the human condition, guessing where a situation will lead, and anticipating the right moment, a single shot is much less distracting and attracts less attention to the photographer. Those "bursts" gets everyone around looking right at you, and it sounds like that's not what you're looking for here. So it's all psychology and anticipation. Get good at those two things.

It's amazing to me that photographers would be discussing justifications for copyright infringement. Excuses that Adobe knows about it so it's ok are rationalizations that shouldn't come into the decision. It's really very simple:
I am a photographer.
I don't want anyone to steal my photos.
Therefore, I don't steal other stuff that is copyrighted. I buy all my software.
There is a saying that starts with "do unto others...."

Cosina 200mm F.4

So, I have the opportunity to buy a kit being sold for $50. It includes an MV1 body, the normal 50mm F.2 with a broken filter ring, and a Cosina 200mm F.4. I already have an M series body, the ME Super, the 50 lens is almost worthless, so what do y'all think of this Cosina lens? Is it worth it. I guess I could turn around and try to sell the MV1 and recoup a bit of the cost, I'd only need the lens.

changing image settings-K20D

You know, I don't remember this "Custom Image" box showing up when I press the function button on my K20D, but now it does, and I can't find a way to eliminate it. The instruction manual tells you how to use it, but not cancel it. Does it affect raw capture?
When I open my raw photos in Adobe Bridge the exif data says Contrast 2, Saturation 0, and Sharpness -Hard (whatever that means). But is there a way to change this in the camera without those custom buttons. I can see how to change the Custom Image buttons from Natural to Portrait etc. but I hate that kinda stuff. I just want the camera set to NO adjustments. I just always shoot manual and I don't want the camera to decide anything for me. I'd rather do that later in ACR. Is my memory bad and has that "Custom Image" box always been there, and I just never noticed until now?

If you want to know about the different cameras, check out Dimitrov's "the Best Pentax Cameras page. It lists the most popular bodies, as well as links to data about all Pentax bodies.
The "Best" Pentax Cameras

I got my ME Super for $50 with 3 lenses. Sold two of the lenses for $30 each, so I actually got the camera for minus $10, and I love it. Small, solid, and does what a camera needs to do. I'd get a K mount body, just so you can easily use the lenses you acquire for digital too.

Just a clarification. You don't need a model release if your "street" photos are not for commercial purposes. So for art or journalism, if you're in public, and they are in public, it's all good.
So here are a few I took at a recent outdoor music event in San Antonio. It's kinda interesting when they catch you. The first guy saw me, and if you look closely in the second, behind the child you can see a guy looking at me wondering what I'm doing.

SB-28 -- nice bang for the buck

Got an SB-28 used from local craigslist for $50. Works great off the camera, but all the setup buttons are kinda confusing. What do all the fractions do? You know, 1/64, 1/32, etc., and does zooming to a higher number make the flash stronger, but with a narrower beam? I've never played with flashes with zooms and the like before. I just always had flashes where you adjust the camera to match them.
