your best option will be to remove chrome OS and install a chromebook friendly linux distro, that way you will have access to gimp, darktable, etc and possibly even be able to run photoshop or lightroom under wine.

just do a google search with your specific chomebook model and linux

New Lightroom plugin - Lightroom Analytics

Lightroom Analytics

Quote from popphoto magazine article:

"Lightroom Analytics" Plugin Number Crunches Your Library | Popular Photography

QuoteQuote:

Ever wondered which aperture you use the most on your favorite lens? What shutter speed you rely on? What editing tools you use the most? Lightroom Analytics is a fascinating free plugin that crunches the numbers on as much (or as little) of your Lightroom library as you want, and produces a detailed, and easy to understand, analysis of the images.
The plugin analyzes the metadata of your library, and spits out the information as both a .csv and a .json file, the latter of which you can use a free viewer to look at the numbers. Or, if you're a spreadsheet wizard, we're sure you can use the .csv for some deeper statistical analyses.
But for most of us, the standard report will provide a fascinating look at not just our shooting habits (I already knew I was addicted to my 35mm f/1.8), but also how we edit the files in Lightroom. It shows a number of the common adjustments, and how you used them across your library.
It's a fascinating way to reflect on the way you use both your camera and Lightroom, and if you give it enough time, it seems to be able to crunch through a truly absurd amount of data.

CPU swapping

@ op

You are going to see a big improvement by upgrading your cpu and ram, specially from the cpu upgrade ( 2 cores, bigger L1 and L2 caches)

However your current cpu has a TDP of 25w and the one you are looking at has a TDP of 35w .

Be careful when upgrading to CPU with higher TDP. If you have weak fan/heatsink then you may end up with a system, that automatically shuts down during heavy workloads. Usually, upgrading from 25W to 35W CPU, or from 35W to 45W CPU should not present a problem. If you want to be on the safe side then choose upgrade processor with the same or lower TDP.

If you want to stay with in specs you can consider this other cpu, AMD Phenom II Dual-Core Mobile P650 runs @ 2.8 GHz. not much diff from 3 GHz but lower TDP of 25w while still giving you the same benefits of dual core, multithreading and bigger L1, L2 caches. (same as N660).

If you still want to go with the N660 you need to help your laptop with the extra heat the new cpu its going to pump, you need to start with a high quality thermal paste, make sure the fan and the heatsink are clean of dust bunnies, make sure your air intake/output are clean of dust and unrestricted, you might want to consider a laptop cooler.

I personally recommend this thermal paste:

PK-3 Thermal Compound(1.5g ?5g?30g) | Prolimatech

^^^ This

I have upgraded many non apple laptops from crappy semprons/celerons to dual or quad core processors. just make sure your new processor matches the socket type, TDP and fsb, I will also recommend that you upgrade your BIOS to the latest version available.
