I know it's a portrait lens, not landscape, but the dof is creating a challenge. I posted some photos comparing the 85mm to the 77mm on the following page. One would think they would be close but you will see the significant difference.

prime, prime, everywhere a prime... - Page 1238 - PentaxForums.com

It appears I have to take a shot with a straight background / surroundings to get an acceptable photo. Any background before or after the main subject causes issue. Here's another example, taken at f8, that shows what I'm trying to explain.

SMC K 85mm f1.8 + K-5iis.

I'm struggling with this lens, never encountered this degree of difficulty before. Not sure what the problem is but I'll keep on working with it until I figure it out.

This following post shows what this lens can do. I'm in full agreement with Wasp, I highly recommend this lens.

I haven't had time to test and compare my latest acquisitions, the FA 77/1.8 and K 85/1.8, due to family responsibilities. I decided today was the day to take a few (and I do mean only a few) minutes to take several quick shots to see how they perform and see the difference in results. The following are not at all artistic and sooc. To say I was surprised at the results is an understatement.

The first photo is from the FA77, shot at f1.8. The second, third and fourth are from the K 85, shot at f1.8, f2.8 and f4. All were taken handheld from approximately 10 feet from the bicycle.

Your experiment shows how really good the old K 200/2.5 is. It's a much under appreciated lens, a joy to handle and a stellar performer.

Very sad news, the only consolation is he's no longer suffering and at peace. We will miss his friendship and scientific adventures.

Wasn't expecting to see any birds so I took the Voigt 90/3.5 to the local metro park. Spotted a large bird in a tree, then a second flew in and perched a few seconds and then flew off. The birds were so far off I couldn't recognize them as Red Tail hawks until I cropped significantly shot.

First shot cropped, second original size.

Thanks, Ivan. Hope you are doing well.

This is from the local botanical garden, I'm fortunate that I only live a few miles away. And, yes, 1/2 is ideal for flowers. I also have a Vivitar 90-180mm close focus zoom that goes 1/4 at the lower end and 1/2 at 180mm. It's also a great lens for flowers and close-ups, although it's not a prime.
