There wasn't any reason for Zeiss to make lenses for Canon until they were ready to provide EF-mount support for auto-aperture, etc. Without that, Canon owners would have gained nothing over using the ZF versions with an adapter, so Zeiss didn't bother. (Apparently, the EF-mount is more difficult to support than F-mount; Samyang have said as much in explaining why they have CPU-enhanced versions of their lenses for Nikon but not yet for Canon.)
Zeiss does still manufacture selected products in Germany, mostly high-end and cine stuff I believe.
Hopefully, the Ricoh takeover will encourage some of the lens manufacturers to make K-mount versions again.

It does make you wonder whether their copy was defective...

There's also the matter of TC compatibility with AF. I assume Pentax AF is good down to f/8, which would make f/5.6 the slowest AF capable lens with a 1.4x TC.

Indeed. If it's a replacement for the DA1224, that would make sense.
I was more wondering what it might be if it wasn't intended to replace an existing lens.

A good guess for the Limited zoom, though f/2.8 or f/2.83.5 wouldn't have to be all that large if only covering APS-C.
I do wonder about the wide zoom since there's already the DA 1224.

I'm worried that with the FA50/1.4 not listed, this is going to be a slower (but cheaper) replacement, leaving the DA* 55mm as the much more expensive f/1.4 option. With the wide availability of the FA50/1.4 used, a 50/1.7 (or so) will have to be much cheaper to be successful.

I'd guess it will be compact more in virtue of limited zoom range (only 2040mm or thereabouts) than slow aperture. Even f/2.8 constant could be quite small (for a zoom) with a limited FL range, though that's optimistic admittedly.

OTOH, the Nikon 16-85mm is decent, the Sony/Zeiss 16-80mm is quite good, and the Olympus ZD 12-60mm is phenomenal. Pentax can make a good lens in the FL range if they want to.

Interesting! Perhaps the 50mm is just a refresh of the FA50/1.4 then...
As far as I'm concerned, the new roadmap (and the K-01) indicate commitment to the K-mount that in and of itself is encouraging.

Looking at the PDF version of the roadmap, I'm pretty sure not. The DA* looks like a 15 (or 16) 85mm, as others have suggested; f/4 constant or f/3.54.5 probably. I expect this is the much requested WR replacement for the DA 1770mm, but in DA* trim (though not too expensive, I hope).
The only thing I see in the roadmap that suggests FF is the 50mm denoted as "Standard". Everything else fits just fine with an APS-Conly strategy.

Photozone corrects for field curvature in their reviews, i.e. they measure corner resolution from images in which the corners are in focus, even if the center is not due to field curvature. Lenstip and slrgear do not, I'm pretty sure. Photozone's reviews are coming in for a lot of criticism here, but field curvature can't be used to explain poor results on their tests.

Here's hoping for a new kit lens to go with the K-5 replacement!

It's possible to implement IBIS with modes for panning -- Olympus does.

I just took the survey but found some of the choices odd and was disappointed not to see some other options. Here's what I'd like to see :- WR 17-70mm f/4 or f/2.84, or 16-80 or 85mm f/3.54.5
- refreshed 55-200mm WR kit lens with improved optics
- 23 or 24mm f/2
- moderately priced 30mm or 35mm f/1.4 or f/1.8
- 90mm f/1.8 or f/2 (85mm ok too)
- 135mm f/2.8 or faster
- inexpensive 50 or 55mm f/1.7 or f/1.8
