Pentax K-x

If you order the 55-300mm lens separately a conical lens hood is included in the box along with a soft carrying case. Purchasing an 18-55mm lens separately includes a petal shaped lens hood (with access panel) in the box, but not a soft case. If I remember correctly, the conical hood (PH-RBG) for the 55-300mm lens retails for around $64.00 US if purchased by itself. If you were also wanting the lens hood you'd actually save a few dollars by purchasing 55-300mm lens separately, as opposed to having it included in the kit. IHTH.

Even the Pentax Webstore shows the K-x Dual Lens Kit as out of stock.

Much better ZUBROWKA. Now we can see what you see. Flickr seems to be photo friendlier. Now to check out the shot...

No matter how many times you attach, or link, to your photos using photoforum.ru, we still can't see your photos.

This is all we can see:
I agree with photolady, "Perhaps you should find another host for your photos..."

I'd really like to see all of your wonderful photos once you get the display issue(s) worked out.

Do I get a K-x or do I wait?

I'll be more than happy to let you know whether I like the K-x, Confuzzled. Once I figure it out, that is. I've never used a DSLR/SLR camera before. I guess there's no time like the present to learn!

After already reading the K-x manual (PDF download from Pentax) all the way through and being thoroughly amazed at all that it can do I wouldn't worry too much about the differences between the K-x and the K-7. I'd check the specs on both, decide which one fits your needs and is within your budget and GO FOR IT! Every day you delay is one less day you have to play, I mean experiment with the camera's features and functions, before your vacation. You don't need to be trying to figure out the camera instead of enjoying your trip.

Probably no matter what you purchase you'll want another one in two or three years anyway. ;)

PS - I just checked on my order and it shipped. It's scheduled for delivery on Monday (2010/07/19). Woo-hoo!

My daughter finally 'stole' back the point-n-shoot camera I 'borrowed' from her some time ago. I decided not to wait for her to leave it around the house unguarded and placed an order for my K-x kit, in boring black, last night. I took advantage of the free shipping option so, unfortunately, I'll have to wait until late next week before I'll be able to start snapping photos again. Once I get used to using a DSLR there may even be some that I'll be proud enough of to post. :)

DC Police - Illegal to take photos of people or police in public

I know this isn't about DC, it's not even in the US, but...

While driving around today I heard a story on the radio about a guy that was harassed by a security guard while taking a picture of his son enjoying a ride on a coin operated train. Not one to believe everything I hear on the radio, I decided to 'check it out' when I got home.

Here's the link i found that tells Kevin's story/blog about an overzealous mall security guard named Frank entitled Talk to Frank. It goes to show that this is a worldwide issue that only seems to be getting worse. We must fight for our right to keep, bear and use our cameras!

On a personal note, I was harassed by two women in a parking lot for taking a couple of pictures of the side of a car that had some wicked graphics running the length of the body. Neither any personal information nor the license plate was being captured in any of the pics. I just wanted a shot or two of the graphic so I could show my daughter when I got home. These two females, however, got all puffed up and indignant and started telling me in volume and color that I couldn't just start taking pictures of someone else's property, I didn't have any right to take pictures of the car, what I was doing was 'messed up', and on and on and on for about 5 minutes. In the end they wound up getting in their car and then proceeded to speed out of the parking lot. As it turned out, it wasn't even their car! Sheesh! I've still got the pictures of the car somewhere. My daughter really enjoyed seeing the graphics detailing I captured for her in the shots.

Must have accessories for a K-X?

I appreciate you verifying that the lenses come with front and rear caps for me, BigDog. That makes me feel better about my pending purchase.

From all of the photos I've seen on here that were taken with a K-x, using just the kit lenses, I'm more than impressed. I've decided I'm ready to move up from borrowing my daughter's point-n-shoot camera to my first DSLR. After reading the K-x Users Manual already, it seems that the camera has more features and functions than I'll be able figure out, and use, in my lifetime. There's much to play with and learn. I'll be sure to post some pics when I have a question or I actually figure the camera out and have captured something worthy of posting.

Thanks, from your neighbor one state to the north of you!

Must have accessories for a K-X?

I've been saving up and almost have enough money to complete my purchase of a K-x Dual Lens Kit (black with DA L 18-55 & DA L 55-300 lenses). Near as I can figure, after doing much searching here and the Pentax Webstore, a pair of PH-RBA (52mm) and PH-RBG (58mm) lens hoods will work nicely with the supplied kit lenses.

What I haven't been able to figure out is whether the supplied lenses actually come with lens caps. Surely they must, but I can't seem to find any mention of them. So the question is, for those you who have already purchased a K-x kit with single or dual lenses, "Do the lenses come with lens caps out of the box or must the lens caps be purchased separately, also?" I'm just trying to make sure I've got everything 'covered'. ;)

Thanks,
HayTay

What movie did you just watched last?

Just last night...

The 142 min. director's cut of Brazil (1985 - Terry Gilliam).

It had been almost 25 years since the last time I saw the film. Not too surprisingly, it's still as thought provoking and portentous a film now as it was then.

Also, not surprisingly, my wife didn't like it.

Abstract Randoms with my K-x

Jose, other than the first shot of the car these are some interesting photos. The image of the truck and the sky was the one that intrigued me the most, though. I echo coffee's critique of the photo, although, I think the overall size of the hot spot at the top of the picture attracts too much attention and detracts from the rest of the shot. Additionally, since the sky is grey and the truck is dark, I think a conversion to B&W and a bit of PP would take the photo to a whole different level.

I hope you don't mind, but, here's a quick example of your photo after combining coffee's cropping and cloning suggestions with my B&W conversion and PP suggestions. I even threw in a mat border for free. ;)

For better of worse,
HayTay
