I have the same problem at the start of the thread with a silver 1950s CZJ Tessar 50mm F2.8. Once properly screwed into a Spotmatic, SPII or even a Praktica super TL, the tab that comes forward for the auto function on M42 lenses fouls the rear of the lens. The shoulder of the lens sits proud of the screw threads - anybody's guess why. The lens was designed for pre-auto Prakticas. With a PK adaptor, the lens also fouls the mirror on the MX (ouch!) - possibly because it is a good big mirror. The only camera I have been able to mount the lens to successfully is a P30. Rather an incongruous match, but worth it for the pics.

You've just made it possible for me to fix the last functional fault on my chrome MX! Not a bad return on a $30 ebay purchase. Good instructions, well done!

Hello,
I had a similar problem with a very cheap ($35) example off e-bay. I took the top cover off (an exercise in itself, especially if the camera is a treasured possession), and found that a metal tab, part of the wind mechanism, had somehow become bent down, and was fouling the plate that the shutter release acts upon. After bending the tab back up to what looked like a logical position, 'hey presto', the shutter fires reliably. No idea why the fault occurred, and you may wish to hear other replies before embarking on a particular course of action.
Regards,
Rusticon

Typical...
Only registered on this forum today, and 4 hours later buy yet another Pentax (now 10 bodies, plus a Rollie and a Contax II). Black SP in a hard leather case with a 55mm f1.8, a snip at £30, despite the iffy 1/1000s. So easy to explain to myself why to add to the collection, so difficult to explain to my other half...

New here myself...
Have you tried flipping the catch at the base of the shutter release? Catches me out sometimes when I swap camera.
