I just don't see it happening with a full frame. Maybe the KP will get a replacement with a new sensor, and a slightly refined retro look.

Hey Pentax since you seem to be pumping out the firmware updates how about a calibration that uses the cdaf to fine tune the pdaf.

Can I change my vote... I had the 77, and the 43. Loved the 43mm, but if I was to pick one it would be the 31mm. Never owned so I can't compare but would love to try ot out some day.

This is an interesting thread, one I had been looking for actually. I had the 50-135 but decided not to keep it and instead wait till I have a bit of money saved to buy the dfa 70-200. However I have very specific reasons for that, mainly because I want to use the lens to shoot Rugby. If it wasn't for that fact I would of been completely happy with the 50-135 on my k3iii. I loved it actually, if you don't need that 135 to 200mm for outdoor sports I would suggest the 50-135 for sure. From what I have seen the dfa 70-200 is a beast of a lens, the 50-135 is a beauty for sure in terms of size, handling and IQ. I did post some hockey pics as well with it. Some of these were from behind the glass and some were from the penalty box. Hockey rink lighting is extremely variable in terms of quality for sure. ---------- Post added 12-01-23 at 05:41 PM ---------- let us know how it goes.

I definitely wont be buying a film camera(already have some that I don't use) but I will admit I think this will sell well outside of the Pentax brand. I don't think to many cameras have sold well to non Pentax users. This could be the first that does.
Maybe I should shoot roll just for old times sake. nahh

A PLM version might be even better, no doubt a few tweaks can be made to improve the optics too. I did notice one quirk, when the battery gets low on the camera my FPS dropped to about half. I tried to replicate this on another lens and it didn't seem to change the FPS of the camera.
Ill try and post some pics later, just in case there are other hockey parents out there.

I thought I would create a post in case anyone has ever had the same question as I had. How does the DA* 50-135 F2.8 lens work for Hockey (Ice hockey)? In one word the answer is "Great"
I have read review that the IQ was excellent and I have to agree, straight out of the box at F2.8 the images were useable perhaps even sharp, to be honest I don't think I even used this lens above F4 once while shooting inside. I suppose it kind of has to be, otherwise why bother. In the past I did have the Sigma 50-150 F2.8 and the wide open performance was meh in comparison.
Of course the major "potential" issue was the autofocus, when I first started shooting I thought to myself what is going on. This lens focuses so much faster than I expected, I have read so many reviews complaining the focus was slow. Did they change the sdm motor at some point, do they get slower over time? Was I blown away? No, but I was impressed. This lens absolutely tracked just as well as the much raved about 55-300 PLM lens which I own, in day light. In the hockey rink the DA* 50-135 is likely better. When I compared the number of in focus shots of my dog trotting towards me the in focus shots were about the same, but IQ was better from the DA* lens so in that sense it wins hands down, in any situation out 135mm that is.
Most of of the out of focus shots happened when I let the camera do its thing in full auto, do be honest I just don't think the K3 III system is just that smart yet. Using the smallest area autofocus points seem to work the best for tracking. Hold low or off.
In terms of handling this lens is excellent, it balance so nicely on the camera it barely feels like an addition at all.
With all of that being said it does have some limitations, that is the reach, but it equivalent to a 70-200 on FF so it is what it it is. Finally the IQ from this combo will not match a FF with a 70-200mm 2.8 lens, at least not in lower light. The difference in good light would barely be noticeable. However the handling would be so much better in terms of weight and speed (K3III vs K1). It really is a great combo.
If Pentax can improve on this lens than hats off to them.

I guess its pretty hard to get excited about this when such a small percentage of users care about film. It would be nice if they completed what was shown on the lens roadmap. But I suppose there really aren't to kany gaps there now.

Perhaps you could just put it in TAv mode. Pick the shutter speed and F stop. If you pick aperture bracketing it will take three pictures in a row with different f stops. That should cover your bases for any error in focus or exposure.
