Or, always carry a small spray bottle filled with water! Add interest yourself and give nature a helping hand.

As there are lots of great technical suggestions, even though treacherous, I will venture some creative advice. When taking a shot, I take a cue from the Inuit who "see" the figure they want to carve in the rock or bone prior to carving, and then simply remove the excess material. I attempt to allow the photo to emerge from all the visual information at my disposal and then I can see what I have to trim away to realize the vision that presents itself to me. In almost every case, less is more and at the best of times, the shot finds me, not the other way around. Finally, on a different tack, do not be afraid to throw out every rule and bit of advice you have ever received if a great shot demands it.

That was my favorite. If it's a question of colors, not sure why #8 works but the rainbow doesn't.

I've tasted Carlsberg and believe me....no one's waiting for that stuff. Especially I do not want to associate Pentax with anything that watered down. Go to Belgium, have a real beer and then we can talk. If one of you design geniuses can figure out a way to have St. Bernardus hoisting a Pentax instead of a chalice, I'll wear that shirt!

Love #9. I spent some time on a bridge in the rain in Firenza that looked just like this, then I saw that this was taken in Verona. Close enough! This is art beyond simple picture-taking. As Ansel Adams said, "You don't take a picture, you make a picture." This picture was made, beautifully.

The fox picture is a bit of a mystery, unless the end of the branch he is sniffing is "covered" or "wrapped" in something (looks like bubblegum!). As all of the fox's attention is on this one small point, I do believe that the idea is for us to pay attention to that too.
In #7 the lady's head is wrapped; #11 is a covered bridge and as for #10, I don't believe that there are any rules determining the amount of post-processing allowed and in fact I have often been put off by the amount of LR'ing and PS'ing I've seen here.

I do not have a particular philosophy about photography. What I find most challenging is to make a picture that is self-expressive. One where the viewer can hear my voice. I believe that I have been able to do that with this shot. "Vast emptiness, no essence," to quote an ancient sage, as the shakuhachi rings out into space. Heaven, man and earth refers to the Taiji concept of heaven above, earth below linked by man whose feet are grounded on the earth, and whose head points towards heaven with a mind vast as the sky. The structure is a torei, or gate, symbolic of entering the mystery, passing from sleep to wakefulness. It rests on the earth, is made by man and points towards heaven. Heaven, Man and Earth.

Purchased the Lens Band and it works exactly as advertized, with no interference of the auto focus. Thanks for the suggestion.

Excellent suggestion jatrax. Many thanks. Looks fine to me. I suppose if it interferes with AF I can always MF it!

Overall I am satisfied with this lens. For the price, it takes pretty decent shots. However, the zoom mechanism is very loose. I often use it as a macro with a close-up filter attached and if I point down on my subject, the zoom will just slide out.
Is there any way of increasing the resistance slightly so that it will stay put where I set it, but not so tight that it interferes with the AF?

Sorry, not really familiar with all of this yet. I uploaded 1 photo fine, but tried to upload another an mistakenly did not attach the photo, so I have a 2nd thread with no photo. What to do?

Perhaps I'm stretching the meaning of reflections a bit, but this is a view of the shadow of the Calgary Tower being reflected upwards onto a wall of fog that had enveloped the city for a short time this morning. Taken from behind that wall of fog.
