I picked up a brand new D750 grey market UK model for $1299, very happy with its output. If it wasnt for the lens line up and $500 price difference i would of got a K1 instead though. I use the Nikon 50mm F1.8D 90% of the time, very sharp, very light and compact.

I already contacted them, they promptly asked for proof of purchase to make sure it was within the same year. Then quoted me at $166 minimum + shipping. Thanks for that link, i knew about the lens database i didnt know you could search based on that criteria

Pentax K50 with aperture malfunction

I have a pentax K50 10 days out of warranty -- the repair bill is so much that I plan to just use the camera as is. Problem is i cant use any lenses with automatic apertures. I have one manual focus lens that works fine, but what i would really like is an autofocus lens with aperture ring. I am assuming if i bought say a 50mm F2.8 Macro, i could set the aperture at F4 manually and the camera could not over ride it unless its on the "A" setting?

To be clear -- when i attach a lens to the camera it opens the lens completely. When i fire a shot it always stops down to F22 or whatever the maximum reduction of light is.

I am looking for recommendations on cheap / budget friendly lenses that are autofocus but have an aperture ring. I bought this camera system for my sister -- its mostly just for learning so i dont think its a deal breaker that she will have to set aperture manually on the lens if that works.

I would bet on it being the lens and not the camera. Unless the shutter system pentax uses creates vibration that shows up in the pictures.

I gifted a new K50 to my sister. it failed 12 months 10 days later after only 685 photos.

I have found no temporary fix for my issue, except to use manual focus / manual aperture lenses. When i attach a lens, its wide open. when i take a shot it always stops down to F22

why is a full frame Pentax such a holy grail?

There are so many lenses i want to use, but are ruined by the aps-c crop factor and loss of depth of field. Extra resolution, color, dynamic range, etc are just icing on the cake. 5 years ago, FF was not affordable to me. Now you can buy a D610 / A7R for under $1200... the price difference between FF/APS-C has almost disappeared. My ideal full frame would be a mirrorless Sony A99 so i can use any lens, but still have weather sealed and good ergonomics / build quality. I really dont like to handle the A7 / A7 MKII. Honestly, i love fuji's but i dont see FF in their roadmap.

I wouldnt. granted, im pretty much completely out of pentax now except for a 50mm F1.4 M i use -- but i never liked the way the K5 or K3 felt in my hand. I much prefer the K10d. At this point im happily shooting fuji. I am keeping an eye on pentax to see if they ever make a nice mirrorless. I really enjoyed my K01.

Nikon D600 vs. Pentax K-3

I have a D600 and I think the K01 sweeps nikon too.

edit: The d600 images seems to be a tad brighter and the 85mm F1.8g lens never impressed me -- might be just the pentax 55mm f1.4 outperforming the 85mm F1.8g (at least in colors)

I was using a 55mm pentax on my fuji recently and noticed that when i focus to infinity its much softer then it use to be. However subjects closer then infinity were tack sharp.

autofocus isnt the issue, the d600 is fine -- its just i expected a jump in IQ and im not really seeing it over the K01 and i think my fuji x-a1 is even better then the D600.

This probably has already been said, but if pentax made a budget mirrorless retro slr full frame id buy it in a heart beat -- however, i sold my K01 and K5 and jumped to a Nikon D600. Im not impressed with the output (its great, but so is the pentax). My friend was over with my old pentax K01 and 35mm F2.4 DA lens. we took sample portrait photos with his setup versus my Nikon D600 with 85mm F1.8G at the same fstops (2.4 and then 5.6). We both slightly perfered the output of the pentax -- but i was quite shocked to see at F5.6 when ISO was pushed up over 5,000 that noise looked about the same on both.

i use to do a lot of indoor non flash photography so i lusted for the full frame, but by the time i got the D600 i really dislike indoor photography all together so its a moot point now. for the deals ive been seeing a K3 with grip, flash, etc for $996 you wouldn't regret the purchase.

Tonight I ordered pizza and then went looking for an industrial part of town to take some shops. the areas that i found the sun was on the wrong side of the building so i didnt use them, then a few of them i did use i missed the focus. this was my favorite shot of the night, but the light pole in the background drives me bonkers. This is my mazdaspeed 6 that i just picked up for $5k

I took this last night with my fuja X-a1 (pentax 55mm F1.8 lens) he is a bugger to catch in focus. I wish the tip of his nose was a little sharper , but it was the best shot i got last night. I am just again starting to do a photo a day of something...

This is probably one of my favorites. Taken last summer at Grand Haven, im sure it would of been more dramatic with a wide angle lens, but the 55mm is all i had.
