Toshiba and SanDisk make the flash memory for most of the other brands. The secret, according to a SanDisk insider (at the exec level), is the SW that organizes the physical memory and allocates space to data as needed. This can greatly influence card write speed and resistance to corruption. Card makers put more or less effort into this code, particularly in the areas of robustness and QA. Needless to say, he rptd that SanDisk sells the chips but maintains exclusivity on their SW as a competitive edge.
I use SanDisk and Lexar exclusively. I wish my photography was as good as my cards ......

ESB is happily consumed. :):) Nothing to see here. Perhaps an IPA or porter is up next. With chunks of Asiago and crusty, buttered bread. Sounds like an IPA, then. Keep smiling! :D

It's clear (at least to me) that Alex is not going to be making a new hardware product announcement or anything related to a business combination or reorganization. Just not his role.
I'm going with workflow/software/technique etc. - perhaps an interesting way to use existing tools/features to create better output.
I'm still working on input, though. And speaking of that, time for an ESB!

I'm ready to make the move from K-5 to K-3II by the end of the month.
I'm looking for better AF on rapidly moving subjects, e.g., grandchildren and aircraft. I don't know for certain which are faster. :)
I'm also looking for better stabilization. I'm nearly fully recovered from a stroke that happened after I got the K-5 - still have some shakiness in my left hand. You know, the one holding that thing with all the glass parts. Shooting airplanes and faster-than-light grandchildren with a tripod isn't practical in most cases. So a stop better stabilization (that's double, right?) would be a big deal. I think Pentax has indicated that OS is measured using CIPA standards so I will assume it's either accurate or an outright lie. I prefer to think the former.
Any ideas anyone?

Those who have been predicting a strong marketing push in the American market appear to be spot on. That placement and size is expensive!
It would be exciting to see the next campaign include a new upmarket body but most of us can certainly live with a start like this. Sure wish I could get a preview of the issue arriving in the post in November!

I expect it will sell poorly in Kentucky (and Wisconsin) but will do well in Asian markets, at least at first. Might be a one-time product to test a product line concept or technologies.
If Pentax were to aim to develop and sell only standard and sure-to-sell products, it would fail. Oh, wait. I just described a recent era in Pentax history ..... But we seem to be moving out of it at the speed of a large but well-intentioned corporate bureaucracy. I'll settle for that for now.

I've never seen a Pentax warranty card despite a plague of Pentax purchases. I have seen, in the US, a card including some warranty instructions and the serial number of the camera or lens. The card is not proof of purchase or a warranty requirement; it's simply a reference document for the user to file in the event that the serial number is needed later. The warranty foundation, as noted above, is a receipt or similar document that shows what was purchased and the appropriate date.
The above applies only to my experience with Pentax USA and US-based retailers.

That makes a great deal of sense. We may see announcements of narrow interest.
It's interesting to watch posts of those who seem to have early knowledge of announcements. Even though they're respectful of Pentax management preferences, we may yet draw some conclusions. Are they about to burst with excitement? Are they calm and sedate? Are they trying to calm the roiling seas of speculation?
As is usually the case, tomorrow will come .....

My daughter - with relatively little post-secondary schooling (community college HR credits and pilot's ground school, a wonderful combination) - researched and purchased a thermostat called the Nest. She explained it to me. More than once.
I don't know what it is, what it does, how it works, how it helps, or why Sandia National Labs ever released it to the general public. It rather sounds as if it includes an Android app that causes the laws of entropy (as opposed to entropy itself) to be reversed in certain sections of your house. Something to do with the Hogg's Bison, I think ...

CIsco has a reputation of integrating acquisitions in 30 days; that's the corporate goal. Everything from management to signs on buildings to HR policy to marketing collateral. Re-arranging engineering, product development, etc. isn't fully done in 30 days but there's no doubt about who's the boss and what the goal is.
A large Japanese company operating on a consensus basis (as they do) can take a very long time to integrate a merger or acquisition. I expect that a good portion of Pentax and Ricoh staff still think of themselves in that way - as Pentax or Ricoh - and management works hard to keep them all feeling valued and respected by waiting patiently for them to get to consensus. This is not an environment conducive to innovation and rapid development.

I was exercising tact. Usually I do so by not posting at all owing to the energy involved in repetitively nicer edits. Thought I'd drag out a post of that sort today just for practice.
By the way, does a Senior Moderator have a role to play in the road to Bannedville?

Sony has deep pockets from only the insurance/financial and entertainment activities, mostly insurance/financial. The consumer electronics unit (including camera-related gear) continues to lose a lot of money.
Vocal shareholders are calling for the consumer electronics piece to be sold/spun off - it's a drag on corporate profits and therefore constrains the profitable investments that Sony wants to make in other areas.
I expect that major Sony investors are continuing losing interest in dumping even more money into money-losing televisions, cameras, etc. and will demand cutbacks or eliminations of those lines fairly soon. Please note: "fairly soon" to an American like me is rather different than "fairly soon" to a very large, bureaucratic Japanese corporation.
PS: The business-to-business sensor market is a far different business than consumer "stuff".

Brand new member posting in old thread, first post is an advert for a vendor with no history on Resellerratings.com. "Contact us" gives us only email and toll-free number.
Price Grabber shows lots of reviews of the one-line variety from people who joined the day of the review. All appear within last seven months.
Anyone here have any experience with these folks?

My understanding:
WR = Weather resistant. Pentax description mentions splash resistance but nothing about dust. A matter of damning with faint praise, methinks.
* = "sealed". Whatever that implies. Pentax mentions dust resistance and uses stronger language when describing * glass.
AW = All weather? Perhaps a somewhat different approach owing to the engineering necessary to make a lens of the size and nature of the 560.
None will automatically get replaced in the event of water or dust damage. I don't know which criteria Pentax uses for this part of the warranty.
