Well if people are debating full info viewfinders lets throw Minolta into the mix then. I think the OP should check out the XD11. Similar size to the OMs but not as small as the MX. Large viewfinder with shutter speeds on the right with LEDs. Little window to see apertures. Shutter speed dial is on the top plate so it's not controversial (omg shutter speed ring on body what do i do???) and it's easy to turn with one finger, unlike the MX.
SR glass is cheaper for the most part. They take excellent pictures if you do your research and get the good ones and I think they look rather nice. Better than Pentax but not quite as pretty as OM.

A few from this past weekend. San Francisco.
Canon 7n with a Canon 24-70L - Such a cheater camera but man does it focus fast. I was really impressed with it. The lens, however, took some getting used to. I don't use zooms and I really struggled getting into a groove with it.
Arista Premium shot at 200, developed in DD-X 1+4 @ 68F, 6.5mins. Happy with the grain, or lack-there-of. These are straight off the negative scans with a Canoscan 9000F. |

Nice and dramatic Mike. Is that in the Bay? Never heard of it.
I found an expired roll of XP2 in my freezer. I haven't shot C41 B&W in a really long time so I figured the roll was kaput. Threw it in the Fuji GA645i and shot around the house. Goes to show how well freezing extends the life of the film. |

If you go through the chems quickly plastic is fine. I use green and brown glass bottles because I'm not shooting as much as I used to. The top seals and I drop in marbles to get rid of the air. I did this because my R09 crystalized.
Wine bottles work. I'm using my dads old lager bottles.

Wow, the camera's actual "last breath". The dark figure in the foreground could be seen as death while the woman in white, in the distance, could be seen as the angel awaiting your Retinas soul....
Over-dramatic? :p

New pup. Some sort of Jack Russel Chihuahua mix I took away from a negligent owner. His name is Harold but everyone calls him Harry (Hairy).

Some recent shots from my Yashica 12 (predates the popular MAT 124-G). It poured in San Francisco that day and everyone just stood around waiting for it to end.
A few others who were waiting for it to stop raining.
My girlfriend noticed my metering was different than her Canon AE-1 so popped the battery out of the Yashica and noticed that Mark Hama ( who did my CLA ) but an LR44 alkaline battery in there. So I stand developed this roll and was pleased with the results.

I think I'll wait until I get the J-12 and shoot a roll before deciding on a viewfinder. I'll keep my eye our for really good deals, though.
More rangefinder purchases...
I won a bid for an "Atlas Deluxe". I couldn't find anything on the darn thing but it was 20 bucks and the picture looks nice
Well after I won it I stumbled on some more information. It looks to be a Yamato Pax 4 or Skymaster made for export. Yamato got their start like everyone else, copying Leicas. However they put a spin on it and hit them with a shrink ray. Pygmy Leicas?? I think they rebranded their line multiple times in various markets. Most of the bodies look the same but with different names. The one I bought does not say Yamato on it, just Atlas. However, Yamato also made a camera called the Atlas but it looks completely different. So confusing. The general consensus is that the Yamato line is of medium quality and the lenses are pretty good. I just got a promotion at work so I'm willing to take the $20 gamble.
Pictures are by the seller. More detail and info in a few days when it shows up. |

First post.
One of the reasons I bought a Pentax was for originality. That's how I choose most of my products. I drive a 1991 Nissan Sentra SE-R, not a Civic. My phone is a Palm Pre Plus, not an IPhone. If you do some research you will find amazing quality in something that is often overlooked, like my K-7. Canon is great, Nikon is great, hell, they're all great. It just depends on what kind of person you are. Safe and easy or informed and independent.
My girlfriend has been shooting with a Canon 40D for a few years now and that's what I learned to shoot on. I like it. I found a great price on a Canon 50D body ($750, same price I paid for my K-7) and I could borrow my girlfriend's glass whenever I wanted. However I knew deep down in my heart that I would not be truly happy with a 50D due to the frequency that I see Canon bodies and that I'd be missing out on the love that goes behind the Pentax brand.
