Next move; K5 or 43mm ltd?

I've been thinking about my next purchase.

In 2012 i'll most likely only make one big purchase.

My wife and I are planning on starting a family, so it's time to be a bit more frugal.

Anyways, the big choice to make is saving up for a K5 or getting a 43mm ltd lens. Each good and bad.

K5
+Shooting video is actually something I want. I'd love to make little snapshot video compilation of trips. I see many creative possibilities with this
+I like shooting at night, and the K5s high iso ability would destroy that of my k10D
+I already have a fast and near 43mm lens

43mm
+It'd be my first ltd lens and i've wanted this for a while
+Prices don't change much, but with the K5, prices will continue to drop, especially if I wait until the next K? comes out and the K5 takes a nice bump in price
+I would sell my 50mm and the 43mm would be on my cameras 50% of time (30% would be the 20mm)
+great for digital and film (I shoot lots of B+W film these days)

I have a K10D and Super Program
Pentax-A 20mm f2.8, 50mm f1.7, 35-105mm f3.5 and 200mm f4 and a Sigma 30mm f1.4

What would be your priority?

My weird story:

I was taking photos near a valley with my K10D.

An older guy maybe in his late 50's comes over fully decked out in Northface everything and asks me what kind of camera I was using.

When I showed my K10D he showed me his Canon 5D mark blah blah blah out and mumbled something about "small sensor. . . real camera"

I looked at his camera and told him "ahhh yes, you're using a small format camera" after which I pulled my hasselblad out of my back pack.

His faced turned red and he stormed off. That was the most surreal moment i've ever experienced with cameras

On the plus side, two friends who see me using my program plus and super program kept being surprised at how good the photos I was taking with them were, they've both recently bought film camera's to join the club!

Thanks for all the great advice.

I'm really glad the film community is smaller than digital. I find the feedback here more helpful.

Grouphug guys hehe

The full frame Pentax that never was

Found this article and found it interesting.

This is back in 2001.

If Pentax had made a full frame DSLR in 2002, where would we be now?

How many of us would be using full framed DSLRs?

That MZS design is one I still lust after.

Enjoy

Matte of gloss coat?

When you get prints done, do you usually use matte or gloss paper?

I was planning on decorating my home and framing some of my favorite shots.

I figured I would print them in matte but was wondering if there are any reasons why gloss might be better.

Vacation lenses: what to bring

Haha, this is what makes camera's so frustrating but also interesting.

So many possibilities, so many situations.

Your suggestions have given me a few ideas.

I have a 28mm smc takumar, that would be a wide on film.

So I was thinking

D. 18-55mm kit, 55mm takumar, 135mm takumar

I have a auto focus and zoom lens if I feel lazy, I have a fast lens and a telephoto.

I'll bring my spotmatic instead of program plus since i'm using all M42 film lenses.

I also like this setup because i've seriously neglected the kit lens. My K10D came with the 30mm f1.4 and I bought the kit lens a year later but was so disappointed with it's slow speed that I never used it. Maybe now is the time to get acquainted.

I could bring the fourth 28mm takumar, but kind of like keeping things ultra simple and I think i'll be ok with taking wide-angle photo's only on my digital camera.

It took a long time, but I finally got a roll developed on my Program Plus which came as a bonus with a 35-105mm lens.

I was using a Spotmatic but this camera is becoming a favorite very quickly. After running 2-3 rolls through each I think i'll have a better idea of which I like better.

If it's this one, then I may upgrade to a Super Program as a Christmas gift to myself.

I ran the cheapest film I could find through it, these are all on Perutz Primera 200.

Can't wait to run a roll of Formapan through it! :D

All shot on Pentax-A 35-105mm f3.5
