I only took a couple "tester" shots with the lens last night inside the house (yea kinda wack). But i am taking it with me on vacation when i leave tonight to FL, i plan on testing it out then.

Lucky for me it is 52mm just like my 18-55 kit lens for my K7, and i was planning on buying a polarizer, UV filter, and maybe something else that i can fool around with :)

I was kind of disspointed when i read the review on the 135, as I was kinda hoping i would stumble onto a treasure for lack of better words haha. None the less it is nice since it is something different to use and try out, i have never shot a 135mm prime before so i am looking forward to that. I guess i was just hoping to find more than what i actually found haha.

I agree, I did try to spend some time searching and "browsing" through the stickies and I honestly just passed up the thread that would have answered some of my questions. Oh well, cant expect everything to be perfect on online forums...at least the info is HERE, just have to get used to where to look and familiarize yourself with the way everything is organized.

I really appreciate all the help and insight! I am very fortunate to have found this forum, I have learned quite a bit so far...

I have opened up a new thread regarding some goodies i found (one including a 50mm 2.0 SMC pentax M that my room mate had sitting in his closet! Anways, i had some questions. It would be more suitable to i guess move those answers to this thread :)

Turns out my friend had an old K1000 laying around he just showed me. His dad gave it to him when he was a kid, and he never used it. Turns out he has two lenses i can experiment with! :)

Vivitar 135mm 1:2.8 Auto Telephoto
SMC Pentax-M 50mm 1:2

Wierd thing is, i cant seem to find any information on the vivitar. The only thing i can find is (what reads to be the same lens) on the directory in the stickies. However it seems that everyone that has this lens has to use the M42 adaptor, however mine seems to be in K mount...

I also dont know whats up with the wierd push botton thing that is on the side in the picture. What is that for?? Seams to have two arrows pointing away from eachother, one side says "O" and other side says "L"

Another weird thing is that all the reviews that "match" that of the Vivitar state that it stops up to F22 where as mine goes to only F16. Whats up with that?

Here is the link to the info on the lens that closely resembles mine other than the Fstop limit and the grip on the focusing ring (mine looks different as you can tell):

I am very excited to get an oportunity to mess around with old lenses. I really CANNOT make my mind on what to buy to accompany my kit 18-55. So i am hoping by picking up some cheap "vintage" glass i may be able to experiment and get a feel for what i need.

That and its just kinda cool to be honest! haha

I have been wanting to experiment with older lenses on my K7, mostly just out of curiousity. I was about to pick up a SMC M 50mm F2 for pretty cheap, then i found that my roomate has had an old Pentax SLR in his closet since he moved in! Turns out he has 2 primes, the 50mm that i was about to purchase and then another (i cant remember) 135mm Pentax, ill have to look when i get home again.

Now my question is, what do i have to do to get the k7 to recognize the lens? It seems that when i put it on the camera it wont let me take a pictard(as if a lens wasnt attached). Is there a setting i have to mess with in the menu? I was also informed that some vintage glass requires an M42 adaptor but im pretty sure that just enables you to run a scremount type of lens...right? :o

I have tried giving this a search and havent really found much information. Hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction :)

Yea, it took me a couple seconds to figure it all out once my friend laughed at me and showed me (he has a k7 too)

it was quite amusing to say the least.

I usually try to use manual focus whenever i can to get used to it. I find it quite difficult to manually focus with this DSLR. It is nearly impossible to know if you have it perfect untill u take pics and zoom in on them to "make sure" but i fail more times than none. Havent really mastered the sensitivity of the MF. That is the one thing i wish all DSLR's had, the focusing prizm thing in the middle of most SLR view finders that is. What is that even called? bleh, whatever...you know what i mean lol

Its really quite funny because I was really into photography with my AE-1 for about 4-5 years back in HS in 2000 ish. I always wanted a DSLR but the prices were WAY out of my league for being in High school haha. So my interest kind of dwindled off with the disappointment of not being able to hop on the digital bandwagon.

I hadn’t picked up my Canon in over 3 years and as soon as I picked it up with my friend and his K7 I was sold on buying one AND getting back into photo (I am way rusty). But it is crazy how much stuff you can do with a DSLR, VERY overwhelming to say the least! As you can already tell I have yet to get used to this electronic stuff 100% haha.

My aunt and uncle live in Ocala, so I will be there most of the time. But I will be going to Tampa to visit some other family as well. I know my family is going to take me to A LOT of different places that they want me to see.

I am really looking forward to getting some decent practice with the K7 during my time up there! I have to pick up some filters for my kit lens so I can experiment a bit hehe, I have yet to even get a UV filter to protect the lens (ughh I know)…

However, they DID tell me that it is hell on earth in their area right now. Def looking forward to some hot humid stickyness haha

I very rarely mess with this feature, but I am familiar with it. Its kind of one of those things I know its there but not when I couldn’t figure out why my k7 wasn’t taking pics haha. I won’t make that mistake again!

I can remember my first time on a hike trying to take a close up shot of a small flower and it was stuck in “C” mode, the wind kept blowing the flower around and the camera kept focusing. It drove me NUTS cause it was really messing up the focus haha. Then my friend comes up laughing, and flips the switch up towards MF, so I guess this is legitimately round 2 of my shenanigans with AF haha

Come to think about it all i did was manual exposure mode. :o I gota admit i feel dumb now that you say that, i was a couple beers in when i was trying to give this a shot, mind you i could barely see anything as it was. I am going to give this a shot again tonight.

I just thought it was really wierd due to me being able to take pretty much the same shot before with no problems. I guess there was a bit more light due to clouds last time (this time it was a perfectly clear black sky).

It just seemed really strange to me the way it was acting IMO.

Well i took the dive about 5 months ago and picked up a k7, and i have been loving it up untill this weekend.

I have taken long exposures at the night sky before when i first got the camera and had no problems. However last night, I was trying to take some pics of the moon just out of boredom and it just did not want to take a picture!

It seems like it was so dark it wasnt picking up on anything to focus on, i even tried putting it on Manual, still nothing.

Anyone have any similar problems? I still have ALOT to learn using this camera, so i am hoping this is just as simple as me being an idiot and not turning off a specific setting or something...
