Thanks for the replies. I am/was well aware that the lenses are designed for and aimed at completely different usages. I just wanted to get an idea as to whether the difference going between the two would be painfully obvious in strict IQ terms (not the "magic dust" rendering that the Lims and *s have). From the sounds of it, I may be okay until I can step up to the 70-200.

I'm contemplating selling my 50-135 to get a FF zoom (for my K-1), and the *70-200 is not in the cards right now. The 28-105 has DC, is WR, and covers the meat of the range I most use the 50-135 for (which is rarely at f2.8).
With all of the hype that surrounded the 28-105 after it reached users hands, and its performance seeming to punch well above its weight, I was wondering just how good it really is compared to Pentax's older top tier lenses. Now I certainly know that the only place this lens directly exceeds the 50-135 is in focus speed, but just how close does it get to its optical quality? Could it be said it's pretty close (f4+), 7/10ths, etc?

It would be cool if someone in the industry was able to breakdown how much average R&D years, cost, and manpower are required for creating these type (AF, processing, lenses, etc) of things. Would go a long way to help people get an idea of how much of a feat something is and why it would take so long. I still don't understand why it takes multiple years to develop optics for a single lens, but I know there are reasons why it does.

The KP looks to be setup to appeal more to small carry and street shooters. Based on the fact that so many people are confused by this cam, it would appear the latter barely exists in the Pentax camp.

For what it's worth. Shot at 135mm in FF & PS mode.
I was about to sell my 50-135 (and 20-40), but 1:1 mode has me using it a lot once again.

You can make much finer focus adjustments over select distance ranges. The ability has proved useful on my 35A/K1 combo.

So I put the 35 A under some goooood lighting, and I unfortunately have to retract my previous statements. I can see the interference they are talking about, which isn't where I was even looking initially. There is also a slight rub in the body. That being said, it's not at a level to stop me from using the lens just yet. I'm guessing the repair for this will be machining a sharper edge angle of the mount by a hair. Picture attached. You probably need to zoom in a bit.

Bingo. So far, the people in this thread with affected lenses have mentioned not seeing any "intereference" related issues (me being one). My lens housing clears the body cleanly, so it's still a mystery as to what they are on about. It may be that Sigma is playing it safe by releasing a large list when they've only confirmed a problem on a particular lens thus far. ---------- Post added 05-11-16 at 09:41 AM ----------
Not a lot of space, but enough to not be concerned
No issue with this one. At least as far as Sigma has explained the issue to be.

Just took my 35Art off. From a quick inspection, I'm not seeing any scratches on the mount surface, inner ring, or body. The lens doesn't touch any part of the body from the mount all the way up to the overhang either. I'm curious what fix they will be implementing.

Why must wifi in devices always be an issue:mad:? It seems like everybody who has had initial trouble but gotten the app working, has had to follow some completely different process from the next person to do so.

At this point, I just want to know why all of the major e-tailers seem to be fullfilling pre-orders in no particular order. I mean, how hard is it to go down a list and stop at the last person that equals the last box of stock they received? Perhaps some of the napkins they wrote the pre-orders on have accidentally been used.

I feel that there are a few of us that will have gotten the short end of the stick for this launch (life wouldnt be life without it). I'm just glad I didn't go through with selling my K-3 a couple weeks ago.

I guess was the official launch party for the K-1 in Japan. Definitely n fun and/or interesting watch (but long), especially if you understand Japanese! You Tube |

When I pre-ordered my Surface 4 from Adorama, this shipping issue was the same. They updated the product page shipping from standard to expedited some weeks before the launch date. I called to ask if that was going to apply to my pre-order, and they said of course it would, the site just wasn't completely updated at the time they put the item in the system.
It sounds like that is what happened here, but who knows why B&H wouldn't honor the change for what is probably a rather small product launch for them. I thought "free expedited" was the base shipping option for the majority of things from both retailers anyway.

The randomness of shipping for people's orders, which should be happening in a certain order one would think, is mighty funky. It's like B&H, Adorama, and Amazon are reaching into a hat to decide who on the list will get theirs shipped. Being that I've never pre-ordered a camera before, is this kind of thing normal in Canikony land too?

This is a question for current K-1 owners. I have two 32gb cards in my K-3 currently, but with the increase in resolution, and my potential heavy usage of Pixel Shift, I'm thinking of getting a pair of 64gb ones. What size cards are you running, and what is the K-1 or manual (I can't find a working link with the "leaked" one) telling you the shot capacity is at that size?

Aww shucks! Now this feels like when you wait in line for a movie, are let into the theater, and see people are already sitting in there:lol:. I pre-ordered 3/9, and just chatted with a rep, who after disappearing for 5 min when I gave him my order info, came back and told me "unfortunately, the manufacturer hasn't provided an ETA on when we should receive the camera, so in turn, we can't advise customers of an ETA on their order"

I fell for the INSANE sharpness trap (B&W street photography is my jam), and went with the 35 Art when I was trying to make the same decision. I wasn't sure about the purchase once I felt the weight of it on my K3, but once I started taking pictures, everything was right in the world.
AF is snappy, and my copy hasn't missed or hunted on anything yet (but I mainly use center point soo). Also it's silent silent, which has turned out to be a big deal for me. For the type of pictures I like shooting, I'm more than pleased I chose it. Looking forward to what I can get out of it on the K1.
