Is the Pentax-DA* 55mm F1.4 SDM worth getting today?

I got the DA*55 a few years ago after a long time lusting after it. It's a great lens, and I'm very happy I got it. I replaced my old FA 50mm f/1.4 lens with this one. The SDM motor is (knock on every piece of wood around me) still working fine. And it's sharp, excellent colors, and gorgeous bokeh. Plus terrific handling/size and build quality is exceptional. I don't have full frame and no intention either, so it fits on my KP, K-01, and K-5IIS just fine.

Of course, it also depends on how much you would need to pay for it. I got mine at an excellent price so that made it an especially no-brainer to do.

Sale of lens pending… I will update and mark as sold as soon as transaction has been completed. Sad to see this marvelous lens go but I just don’t use it enough to justify hanging onto it.

The motto of our 7 month-old puppy Otis is: "Bark loudly and carry a big stick." Also shown below is him with his big brother, 7-year old Rufus.

We recently adopted a new puppy (a rescue - mixed breed but mostly chocolate labrador retriever), to keep our 7 year old dog company, following the passing of our senior dog in early June. His name is Otis. Here he is with his big brother Rufus. And more pictures below. We love him but he's a handful. Needs a lot of training. Very playful and lots of puppy energy!

Item for Sale
Pentax DA 18-135mm DC WR

Asking Price
125.00 USD

Item Location
Alexandria, VA (United States)

Item Description
I am selling the awesome and Pentax favorite smc DA 18-135mm DC WR. This lens needs no introduction -- 300+ pages of examples is a testament to how much Pentaxians love this versatile lens. DA 18-135 WR, Show us what it can do - PentaxForums.com

I first bought this zoom lens in 2010 and it was my workhorse through many family vacations and birth of my two kids. I reluctantly sold that copy in spring 2021 after I got the DA 18-270mm superzoom. But I never quite bonded with the 18-270mm and sold that, and reacquired a like-new used 18-135 copy from mpb.com, in summer 2022. I last extensively used it in August 2023 during a family hiking trip to Glacier National Park in Montana, where the focal length range, light weight, and weather resistance served me well. But alas, I also have a 16-85mm zoom, which I find myself using more often now because I like the extra wide angle and don't miss the telephoto end as much. Hence the overlap in my lens collection, and I also am trying to raise some funds to buy a new MacBook.

Asking $125 which includes a Hoya HD Circular polarizer (which costs $50 brand-new by itself!), PayPal fees, and included shipping in CONUS. (I also accept Venmo). Also included are the original lens hood and both front and rear caps. I'm not sure I have the original box (don't believe MPB included it when I bought from them) but if I can find it, I'll send it too.

Here are some pictures of the lens:

Here are pictures I've taken with this copy of the 18-135:

Pentax DFA 100mm f/2.8 WR Macro Lens

Item Description

I bought the beautiful Pentax DFA 100mm WR brand-new in 2012 but have only used it on a few occasions, so it is still in excellent condition. I am just not using it enough to justify holding onto it - I'm not a macro shooter. Though it also is great as a short telephoto prime, and WR is a bonus, and the metal barrel construction makes this really a Limited lens in all but name only. I really wanted to keep it but I also want to buy a new MacBook. This lens works on both full frame and crop sensor, and has awesome reviews: SMC Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro WR Reviews - D FA Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

It is easily one of, if not THE, sharpest lenses I have used for my Pentax DSLRs. I love the colors and bokeh it produces, and really lovely handling. The only downside as reviewers have noted is that the auto-focus can be slow but that's because it's designed to have macro capability and there's no focus limiter. Once you use the "quick shift" function to fine-tune the focus, the auto-focus is very speedy in locking onto its target. That said, this is not a lens for shooting fast sports or birds in flight.

Here are pictures of the lens, along with all accessories it comes with (original lens pouch, original hood, original front and rear caps, original box and paperwork). And I have also attached some sample pictures taken with it.

Asking $225, which includes the cost of shipping within CONUS as well as PayPal fees. I also accept Venmo.

A few recent pictures of our 7-year old dog Rufus, taken with my KP + D FA 100mm WR lens. He's lonely without his big brother Seamus around the house. Maybe we'll need to adopt a puppy to keep him happy.

With incredible sadness but deep gratitude for the 13 years he was part of our family, we said goodbye to our dog Seamus earlier this month. He survived through an aggressive form of cancer and dealt with chemotherapy treatments, endured the physical therapy required to deal with a rupture in his knee joint, and the past few years, suffered with mobility problems due to painful arthritis. But throughout, Seamus was always smiling and gave us lots of love and affection. We sadly knew it was time to put him down, though, once he developed a huge soft ball-sized lump near his throat. So many wonderful memories with him. And he was one of my favorite subjects to shoot with my Pentax cameras over the years. I got my first Pentax, a K-x, just a month before we adopted him. So he has gone hand-in-hand with my Pentax journey.

Rest in peace, big boy. He was truly a good boy. The best boy. Here are some pictures from the last full day of his life.

First one is taken with my KP and FA 31mm limited lens:

These two were taken with my K-5 IIS and DA* 55mm prime lens:

maybe it was a price mistake -- at $1199 with full warranty, I should have snapped it up. It's now priced at $1,399.00. I snooze, I lose. But my wallet (and wife) are happy.
