I got the DA*55 a few years ago after a long time lusting after it. It's a great lens, and I'm very happy I got it. I replaced my old FA 50mm f/1.4 lens with this one. The SDM motor is (knock on every piece of wood around me) still working fine. And it's sharp, excellent colors, and gorgeous bokeh. Plus terrific handling/size and build quality is exceptional. I don't have full frame and no intention either, so it fits on my KP, K-01, and K-5IIS just fine.
Of course, it also depends on how much you would need to pay for it. I got mine at an excellent price so that made it an especially no-brainer to do.

The motto of our 7 month-old puppy Otis is: "Bark loudly and carry a big stick." Also shown below is him with his big brother, 7-year old Rufus.

We recently adopted a new puppy (a rescue - mixed breed but mostly chocolate labrador retriever), to keep our 7 year old dog company, following the passing of our senior dog in early June. His name is Otis. Here he is with his big brother Rufus. And more pictures below. We love him but he's a handful. Needs a lot of training. Very playful and lots of puppy energy! |

From August 2023 vacation in Glacier National Park. Wonderfully versatile lens that produces great colors and center sharpness. |

A few snaps from my recent spring break family vacation to Arizona - hiking in Sedona, Page, and the Grand Canyon, taken with my trusty KP + DA 16-85mm with CPL filter. |

A few recent pictures of our 7-year old dog Rufus, taken with my KP + D FA 100mm WR lens. He's lonely without his big brother Seamus around the house. Maybe we'll need to adopt a puppy to keep him happy. |

With incredible sadness but deep gratitude for the 13 years he was part of our family, we said goodbye to our dog Seamus earlier this month. He survived through an aggressive form of cancer and dealt with chemotherapy treatments, endured the physical therapy required to deal with a rupture in his knee joint, and the past few years, suffered with mobility problems due to painful arthritis. But throughout, Seamus was always smiling and gave us lots of love and affection. We sadly knew it was time to put him down, though, once he developed a huge soft ball-sized lump near his throat. So many wonderful memories with him. And he was one of my favorite subjects to shoot with my Pentax cameras over the years. I got my first Pentax, a K-x, just a month before we adopted him. So he has gone hand-in-hand with my Pentax journey.
Rest in peace, big boy. He was truly a good boy. The best boy. Here are some pictures from the last full day of his life.
First one is taken with my KP and FA 31mm limited lens:

Certainly not a pancake but it does offer a fast f/2 aperture and I love how the silver FA* 24mm lens model matches with my silver KP body!

Went hiking in the Colorado National Monument a few months ago and happened upon this fella. Captured with Pentax KP + DA 18-270mm at the 270mm end. |

Hendrix was beautiful. So very sorry for your loss. But how wonderful that you got to enjoy 14 glorious years with him.

I totally agree. I was eyeing a DA 12-24mm for a while and I think it is sold but the thread has not been marked "sold" so it still appears in the active sale listing. A bit frustrating. Though my wallet/wife probably are very happy these are no longer for sale.

Strongly agree. I love this FOV on APS-C and imagine it's a wonderful fast wide on full frame too. I just got a FA*24 a few months ago and it's stunning.

I am lucky enough to currently own both at the same time. I assumed I'd sell the DA 40 when I acquired the FA 43 but actually, I kept both because I love both for different reasons; Na Horuk summed up the differences quite well, and I kept both lenses because of those different benefits. The DA 40 is so slim and fast focusing, and the images just pop! The FA43 is great in low light and has beautiful bokeh for portrait shots. Someday I may give up my DA 40 but for now, both find a home in my camera bag--> in particular, I find the DA 40 + K-01 to be an awesome combination!

I just got a K-5 IIS last year and fell in love immediately with how well it handles, feels awesome in the hand, and takes stunning photos. Good luck with the sale -- this really is a great camera that still works very well in 2022! I alternate between using it and my KP, and although the KP has faster AF and more modern tech, the K-5 IIS is so much fun to use that I sometimes reach for it first.

12 years ago today we adopted our rescue dog Seamus - part black lab, part Newfoundland (and probably part black bear)... At 120 pounds, he's been slowed by arthritis the past year, has beaten cancer, and overcame a ruptured ACL. But still as sweet and friendly as can be. We're so grateful to still have him around to hug and give him our love... Picture taken today with my K-5 IIS and FA* 24mm f/2 lens. |

wow. thanks for the news. How terrible for the townspeople. It was a nice little town and we ate dinner there twice, including at the Wonderland Cafe. Terrific place with good food and excellent service. Tourism is the only lifeline for these small towns in the area. I can't imagine what will happen to them now.

Thanks for this update. I had a K-50 that also developed the aperture block problem. I was fortunately able to get it repaired for free out of warranty. But it was still a frustrating defect to have to deal with, and I know a lot of people have had to pay good money to have it fixed.

The flooding in Yellowstone this week is such terrible news and makes my heart ache for visitors who were planning trips there this summer, or had to be evacuated, as well as for small business owners in Gardiner, Montana, who rely on tourist income. We're so happy with the trip we took last summer and it's hard to look at the news coverage this week and think that we were traveling on the very same roads and in the same areas that have been hardest hit.
