Warren Buffett: Hike tax on $500K earners

People like Buffett are not the ones who bear the largest burden though. Steve Jobs tool a $1.00 a year salary, but he received millions in compensation from Apple in other ways. The really rich can defer compensation and collect other forms of compensation. The people who end up paying are those just under 500K who are not rich enough to avoid the taxes, but even then they will structure compensation to their advantage. A lot of people in this income level are self-employed and can structure a world of tax exemptions through their company as well and pay themselves just under the limit.

This reminds me of the luxury tax placed on yachts back in the 1990's.
"Starting in 1991, Washington levied a 10 percent tax on cars valued above $30,000, boats above $100,000, jewelry and furs above $10,000 and private planes above $250,000. Democrats like Ted Kennedy and then-Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell crowed publicly about how the rich would finally be paying their fair share and privately about convincing President George H.W. Bush to renounce his 'no new taxes' pledge," the newspaper said in an editorial.

"But it wasn't long before even those die-hard class warriors noticed they'd badly missed their mark. The taxes took in $97 million less in their first year than had been projected — for the simple reason that people were buying a lot fewer of these goods. Boat building, a key industry in Messrs. Mitchell and Kennedy's home states of Maine and Massachusetts, was particularly hard hit. Yacht retailers reported a 77 percent drop in sales that year, while boat builders estimated layoffs at 25,000. With bipartisan support, all but the car tax was repealed in 1993, and in 1996 Congress voted to phase that out too. January 1 was disappearance day.

Buffett may say that rich people wont alter their habits to avoid taxes, but Buffett has been proven wrong by history on many occasions.

Buffett is also promoting Jamie Dimon (JP Morgan) as the next Sec. of the Treasury to replace "tax fraud" Timmy G. The only advice that Buffett gives that I listen to is how to profit from government regulations. He is the undisputed master.

Chicago Teachers Demand Parents' Job Insecurity

By going on strike to get guaranteed job security, how many parents will be forced to take indefinite, unscheduled, leave from employment to care for their school age children. Teachers are inflicting economic harm onto the most vulnerable parents who can't afford to miss a paycheck or have one come up light. The parents whose employers aren't sympathetic to them taking a day or a few weeks off until the teachers can be satisfied in their demands will be laid off and all of the consequences upon those families and those children will be felt for a very long time.

Given the consequences of a teachers' strike, I can't think of a way to describe it other than selfish. This is one of the reasons why so many people are disgusted by unions.

Update: I heard about the strike on NPR this morning, but reading less liberal news sources I am reminded that only the lucky kids will survive the streets of Chicago.

Deval Patrick slammed Mitt Romney last night. But do his facts check out?

Clinton is now talking about how he got 4 balanced budgets. Answer? Arithmetic. Sure. Keep telling yourself that. Might have been the Republican congress that curtailed his spending.

Would have been nice if Patrick was telling the truth though. Sure he didn't create many jobs. Pretty hard to do when unemployment is 4.6% It is impossible to have 0% unemployment and 4.6% is about a statistical zero.

The O'Reilly Factor - Bill O'Reilly - Fox News

Yeah I know you libs don't like Fox.But like you say facts are facts. Or does that only apply if the "facts" come from the left wing lame stream media?

GeneV I posted a link in my post to you apparently you have chosen to ignore it because it does not fit into your narrow world view.

I re post it here for you:

Chicago Lawsuit that demonstrates how community agitator Obama helped force banks give loans to people who could not afford them. I misquoted the stat half the 186 people are either bankrupt or have had foreclosure notices sent to them. As few as 19 still own homes with clean credit ratings. It was lawsuits such as this one that helped ACORN force banks to give out loans to people who could not afford them.

I posted this Wall Street Journal article titled ACORN and the Housing Bubble in my post to nester that shows comprehensive data that shows the long term results the pressure groups like ACORN had on the housing bubble. It is not my fault you again ignored my links.

I have given evidence after evidence. You are the one who chooses to ignore the facts. Instead you are the one who goes off on tangents linking to some fakecheckers.org article that doesn't even support your premise. Your link reinforces what I have been saying as stated by the facts from that link. Like fakecheckers.org you have chosen once again to ignore what the facts say and come up with a conclusion that is in line with your skewed world view.

So you are really insulting me and being rude to me by claiming that my post is peppered with of topic ramblings and insults.

The problem GeneV is that you are not interested in a discussion about facts because the facts do not support what you want to believe and more importantly what you want other people to believe.

TSA and another Pat Down

95 year old ex-nurse with cancer. Dying in fact. She was on her last trip to see her daughter and was going home to die. The TSA is saying she had a soiled diaper. Her daughter said her diaper was a bit wet, but that was it, and they had her stuff kept away from her so she couldn't access any more.

This is nothing but legally condoned elder abuse, period.

I dearly hope this woman's daughter goes after the person who did this, and the airline, sues to make them pay big. I'm not a person who generally goes for the jugular legally speaking, but oh yeah, I think this woman totally has a legit case and I'd just LOVE to see it prosecuted. There is nothing more low than someone who abuses an elderly person or a child and some of these TSA martinets see doing their job as an excuse to do both. FYI, they also pulled a pedophile off the line who was touching kids recently and there have been several more theft busts as well. Clearly they are not screening people closely enough if crap like this can occur.

Someone ever did something like this to one of my folks? I'd absolutely make their life a living hell till they changed their policies to stop it from ever happening again. There are some things you just don't tolerate, no matter how much there is a need for security, and abuse of a 95 year old, cancer stricken, dying woman is one of them. They could have simply swabbed this woman's diaper and then sent her on her way, left the woman her dignity. They didn't and they should be forced to admit to that fact and apologize at the very least.

I am so totally disgusted by this situation it's not even funny. I get upset every time I stumble across another story about it. I just cannot believe they think it's okay to do something like this, ever.

Trashing the economy plan a and b

By creating an unstable and unpredictable regulatory and tax environment they discourage investment by businesses who do have the cash to invest. If you don't know what the environmental, financial, and medical regulations will be 2 years down the road, but you know that they will be different, the only prudent things to do are to either lobby for the regulations which you want or to wait and see what materializes before deciding how to proceed.

If you make a 10-15 year investment in a new factory and 2 years down the road you have to spend a lot retrofitting it to comply with a new regulation your ROI can get slaughtered.

If you build a new power plant and find out that it misses the emissions mark by 1%.

I know that with my company, they have been scared to change health insurance companies or anything about the policies because if they shop around they lose any chance of being grandfathered in after the ACA comes into full effect. The ACA has made every company essentially a captive audience for the HIC until 2014.

Now we're getting somewhere in this discussion Les. (Also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20)
This premise changes the onus of 'ownership' of the foetus, but also the womb, the seminal vesicles, the heart, our eyes, our whole bodies from our 'own' to abuse or use to our own enjoyment to that of our creator.

Now, of course we still have the *free will* to do as we please with our bodies, however this attitude holds no regard for the value of our bodies or that which created it. Nevertheless, free will must still be an important liberty for us to make the decision ourselves to take care of the vessels of creation we are (1 Cor. 10:23). In other words, despite our bodies not being 'ours' we should encourage each other with education to willfully take care of our bodies rather than attempt to impose guilt or laws to 'protect' our bodies from ourselves.

Gokenin- you are correct!
This P&R forum has turned into a liberal strokefest.
People have started threads in here because they didn't like the way conservatives ate pizza but when congressman Anthony " little ******" Weiner sends pictures of his schlong to college girls asking for their pics in return it's no big deal.
Definately a double standard around here!
By the way Nobody said much about Johnny Edwards either.

Damn it I can't believe that w a n k e r was an automatic censor word so lets try tool tugger , log flogger , pud pounder and one handed typist

You want to pay in currency you consider useless?
Then take a cheap shot too?

I guess it's true.
Once you go Galt, it's someone else's fault.

You still can't show ONE recall caused by worker error.
All were caused by management error.
So by your reckoning all management should be fired.

OK, so the whole Paul Revere story is a bit questionable and is shrouded in folklore and legend, but up to now that legend has been pretty consistent.

Paul Revere rode through the night to warn people that "the British are coming!"

The people he was warning, naturally enough, were "Americans" intent upon rebelling against the British crown and opposing the British military.

Sarah Palin, however, has revealed a hitherto unknown purpose to Paul's famous ride...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43285196/ns/politics/

When challenged on this revision of history, she replied...

And, besides being clueless about American history, she needs to go back to elementary school to study basic grammar and sentence structure.
