Ok, so all good stuff, thank you. As noted in several of the replies, I reexamined my settings and discovered I did not have set it to "AE-L with AF locked" as I thought I did. This should solve most of my issues.

I recently bought a used HD Pentax-DA 21mm F3.2 Limited in near mint condition for $250. I really like the idea of a wider angle, but I am having trouble using it. Can anyone please give me some tips? Specifically, it doesn't seem to get light metering done properly. No matter how I meter it, multi, center-weighted or spot, it doesn't seem to balance it right. Yesterday I spot metered on a face in the foreground, daytime, outdoors, with the day sky in the background, and the face was very dark after multiple attempts. If anything, it seems darkest using spot metering. Center weighted seems to work best. In general, if the subject is not in direct, bright sunlight, the results seem dark. I haven't gotten any photos yet that I would call spectacular. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks

Firmware version was already 1.10. In the past couple of weeks, when viewing photos in the camera, the camera completely freezes up. Completely. Even if you shut it off it stays on. No buttons work, at all. Have to remove battery to unfreeze it. I have only experienced this when viewing photos in the camera. If I move ahead or back 1 or 2 photos or zoom in, it freezes. Any ideas what's going on?

My K-30 appears to have suffered an aperture motor failure. Bought April, 2013, with 24,600 shutter clicks (actuations). This site offers some useful info, but not a big enough sample size for Pentax: Camera Shutter Life | Sitemap |

I was having the same issues, but there is a work around that works for me. In the Menu, under the C tab, see #10. Set the AF/AE-L button to #1. This allows you to obtain auto focus by pressing the physical AF/AE-L button with your thumb. I have always used it this way because I prefer that to pressing the shutter down half way. But, my wife is now using this camera and she keeps forgetting to do that. Previously, I did have the problem of no auto focus even when using the AF/AE-L button, but I fixed that by cleaning the contacts. The problem now simply appears to be the camera does not focus by pressing the shutter down half way. I can get it to do it sometimes, but that is rare. So, it seems using the AF/AE-L button is the solution until the whole thing just stops working.

I didn't see this question/thread, but what, in your experience or opinion, is the best Pentax model for shooting video? I have a K-30, but I wish it had a direct mic input. Thanks

I own the 50-135 and tried the 77 and kept the 50-135. I found them to be virtually indistinguishable at 77 (both have that pixie dust quality). Even though the 50-135 is a monster, I prefer it for the versatility.
